Ekström, Filip January 2020 (has links)
In my thesis work, I have tried to find out what factors are important when you want a wooden spin top to spin as long as possible. I identified the factors that seemed to be the most important, and then conducted quantitative tests on 16 different spin tops, all handturned from a solid piece of wood. I came to the conclusion that the height of the tip and the weight of the spin top where the factors that were most important for the ability of the spin top to spin for a long time. Linseed oil bath was also something that had a positive effect on the swivel time.

Designing technical information : Challenges regarding service engineers’ information-seeking behaviourLundin, Jonatan January 2015 (has links)
There is a gap of knowledge regarding relevant aspects of users’ information-seekingbehaviours. The research presented in this thesis aims at gaining a deeper knowledge about such behaviours and discussing the consequences the behaviours may have on the design practice of technical communicators when designing technical information during product development. The information needs of users, and where they go to obtain information to satisfy these needs, are considered relevant aspects. The research presented in this thesis is limited to service engineers performing maintenance in a workshop. The objective is to try to frame the information needs service engineers give evidence of in a work task and map where they go to satisfy these needs. An ethnographic research approach were selected where empirical data was collected, analysed and interpreted from a theoretical viewpoint: a synthesis of Byström and Hansen’s Conceptual Framework for Tasks in Information Studies and Systemic-Structural Theory of Activity. Seven in-house aftermarket service engineers where observed by means of participant observation while performing maintenance work tasks on machine equipment taken out of service in a maintenance workshop in Sweden. The results reveal that these service engineers gave evidence of fifty (50) different information needs, that they actively searched and selected four (4) types of sources of information to satisfy these needs, but also that service engineers seldom seek instructions. The consequence for technical communicators having the intention of designing to satisfy the cognitive information needs of individuals, is that it is a challenge to satisfy every information need. The information needs unique to any one individual and those depending on the work task context, as well as those that are specific to a work role in an organisation rather than to the machine equipment, are challenging to satisfy. This research indicates that the same type of information is used to satisfy different types of information needs. The information designed to satisfy a specific information need may thus be used to satisfy an entirely different need. / INNOFACTURE - innovative manufacturing development

Evaluation of a Modular Thermally Driven Heat Pump for Solar Heating and Cooling ApplicationsBlackman, Corey January 2015 (has links)
Exploiting solar energy technology for both heating and cooling purposes has the potential of meeting an appreciable portion of the energy demand in buildings throughout the year. By developing an integrated, multi-purpose solar energy system, that can operate all twelve months of the year, a high utilisation factor can be achieved which translates to more economical systems. However, there are still some techno-economic barriers to the general commercialisation and market penetration of such technologies. These are associated with high system and installation costs, significant system complexity, and lack of knowledge of system implementation and expected performance. A sorption heat pump module that can be integrated directly into a solar thermal collector has thus been developed in order to tackle the aforementioned market barriers. This has been designed to aid in the development of cost-effective pre-engineered solar energy system kits that can provide both heating and cooling. This thesis summarises the characterisation studies of the operation of individual sorption modules, sorption module integrated solar collectors and a full solar heating and cooling system employing sorption module integrated collectors. Key performance indicators for the individual sorption modules showed cooling delivery for 6 hours at an average power of 40 W and a temperature lift of 21°C. Upon integration of the sorption modules into a solar collector, measured solar radiation energy to cooling energy conversion efficiencies (solar cooling COP) were between 0.10 and 0.25 with average cooling powers between 90 and 200 W/m2 collector aperture area. Further investigations of the sorption module integrated collectors implementation in a full solar heating and cooling system yielded electrical cooling COP ranging from 1.7 to 12.6 with an average of 10.6 for the test period. Additionally, simulations were performed to determine system energy and cost saving potential for various system sizes over a full year of operation for a 140 m2 single-family dwelling located in Madrid, Spain. Simulations yielded an annual solar fraction of 42% and potential cost savings of €386 per annum for a solar heating and cooling installation employing 20m2 of sorption integrated collectors. / Reesbe

In today's society all of your questions can be answered through a visit at Google. We’re constantly connected to the internet and cookies do not only refer to those sweet baked goodies you wish to fill your stomach with. But the question is how aware we are on the effects each data collected has on us? The idea for this essay is to see what Swedes think about algorithms, filter bubbles, echo chambers and integrity in relation to perceived self-affirmation. Do cookies and algorithms work as a help or a hindrance? We have been doing interviews with 11 people in the ages 19 - 36 of which six people stated to be men and five women. The issues we wanted to investigate have been the following: To what extent are users aware of the impact of Instagram's algorithms? Have users changed the way they use Instagram after the advent of personal algorithms? If so, in what way and why? How does the number of likes affect the user's self-image and the image of others? We can see that the knowledge levels of Instagram's algorithm is low. Users are struggling with their own theories about what can increase interaction with other accounts to meet their needs - but find little or none interest in finding out the facts. As far as the algorithms' influence on self-esteem is concerned, it is high. Rather, the major difference we experience lies in the study of the uprising of the new system under #RIPINSTAGRAM which determined users' strong resistance to Instagram's adjustments. Nowadays, the attitudes toward those personal algorithms are not as strongly negative, at least not on a conscious level. This seems to have leached over time, potentially as a side effect of simply getting used to the forum's new layout.

Utveckling av hemsida till Serviceförmedlingen och Rosana Restaurang & BarViksten, Sebastian, Raufi, Masood January 2020 (has links)
Creating the websites was done to increase methods of reaching out to new customers and let existing customers to order more comfortably by viewing the restaurants menu online and have the availability to order with home delivery. This was an easy choice considering most of the shopping is done online. The design and development of Rosana Restaurang & Bar’s website is made with the help of Wix. Before Wix was chosen it was planned to create the website with CSS and HTML, this turned out to be way too complex and that is when Wix was chosen instead. The website was built with the help of their function library that was later configured appropriately. Serviceförmedlingen website was made in CSS, HTML, PHP and Javascript. Where CSS was chosen for styling, HTML for the core of the website, PHP for the contact form with a mail function and Javascript for animations. Rosana Restaurang och Bar now has the possibility for customers to reserve tables online, receive orders and get auto-prints of orders, there is also possibility for deliveries of the food ordered online. Serviceförmedlingen has the possibility for customers to get in contact via the contact form, telephone or by mail. The contact info exists at the bottom of the page if the customer would be interested to contact the Serviceförmedlingen directly. The budget for this work was about 3200kr, though there are some costs that happens every month or every year.
