Die Auswirkungen der medialen Internetnutzung auf die Print-Zeitung - Eine medienlinguistische Analyse / The effects of media internet use on traditional print media

Uhrich, Daniela Brigitte January 2015 (has links) (PDF)
The aim of my doctoral thesis entitled "The impacts of medial internet use on traditional print media" was to investigate how German print-media is changing under the impact of online-media. As corpus of research I used the local daily newspaper Mainpost, the national daily newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung and the weekly magazine Spiegel. I was doing research on the front-page stories of the three print-media and compared them among each other in the period between June–August 1999 and June–August 2009. My hypothesis: Considering the increasing competition through free online-media, traditional print-media has to find their own distinguished profile to survive. This objective is preferrable reached through a quality improvement. The reason is that people request to get information in a fast manner by using online-media. They mainly read short articles - longer ones are rarely consumed because of online reading habits. Idealy one receives better researched background stories in the print-media afterwards. Moreover, local newspapers have to concentrate their reporting on regional issues. My examination shows that all newspapers analyzed tend towards the trends mentioned above. However there are some issues in which print-media still has to catch up. Therefore my doctoral thesis not only reflects the empirical reality but also gives concrete advice for journalists. There is no similar empirical study in the field of German linguistics yet. Even though there is research concerning the area of online- and print-media development, there is none referring from one to the other media. There is a lack of current research in the fast developing world of new media. There is also still some research in the field of quantitative examination to be done: One doesn't find a scientific study based on empirical data, that is sufficiently informing about the impact of new media regarding the use of written language in print-media. This deficit in current research was reduced by my thesis. To find out more about the influence of new media use on print-media I combined qualitative and quantitative methods. However I didn't just analyse the language of the texts, but also examined economical and social issues. For that reason this doctoral thesis is an interdisciplinary piece of work, from its subject belonging to the field of media linguistics. This new area of research represents an intersection between linguistics and media science. After realising that my thesis would be an interdisciplinary one, I decided to write it underneath the supervision of the Graduate School of Humanities Würzburg.

Analysis of alpha-2 macroglobulin from the long-lived and cancer-resistant naked mole-rat and human plasma

Thieme, René, Kurz, Susanne, Kolb, Marlen, Debebe, Tewodros, Holtze, Susanne, Morhart, Michaela, Huse, Klaus, Szafranski, Karol, Platzer, Matthias, Hildebrandt, Thomas B., Birkenmeier, Gerd 27 July 2015 (has links) (PDF)
Background: The naked mole-rat (NMR) is a long-lived and cancer resistant species. Identification of potential anti-cancer and age related mechanisms is of great interest and makes this species eminent to investigate anti-cancer strategies and understand aging mechanisms. Since it is known that the NMR expresses higher liver mRNA-levels of alpha 2-macroglobulin than mice, nothing is known about its structure, functionality or expression level in the NMR compared to the human A2M. Results: Here we show a comprehensive analysis of NMR- and human plasma-A2M, showing a different prediction in glycosylation of NMR-A2M, which results in a higher molecular weight compared to human A2M. Additionally, we found a higher concentration of A2M (8.3±0.44 mg/mL vs. and 4.4±0.20 mg/mL) and a lower total plasma protein content (38.7±1.79 mg/mL vs. 61.7±3.20 mg/mL) in NMR compared to human. NMR-A2M can be transformed by methylamine and trypsin resulting in a conformational change similar to human A2M. NMRA2M is detectable by a polyclonal antibody against human A2M. Determination of tryptic and anti-tryptic activity of NMR and human plasma revealed a higher anti-tryptic activity of the NMR plasma. On the other hand, less proteolytic activity was found in NMR plasma compared to human plasma.

Christoph Martin Wielands Erzahlweise in Geschichte des Agathon und Der goldene Spiegel.

Maurach, Bernhard January 1968 (has links)
CM. Wieland created a style of writing which was new for the German novel of the late 18th century. It is the aim of this thesis to show the various means Wieland used in order to present to the reader works of psychological, educational and political content which would be read, not only for that content, but also for pleasure. Mainly on the basis of two of his major works, Die Geschichte des Agathon, (1767), and Der goldene Spiegel, (1772), but also on some theoretical and critical works by other authors, some of the more important features of Wieland's narrative style are analysed and illustrated with examples. The first work to be dealt with, Die Geschichte des Agathon, was written for the upper and upper middle classes. Turning directly to the reader, Wieland, following the trends of his times, often addresses the female reader endeavouring to further her education. Moreover, in order to be pedagigical without being pedantic, Wieland assumes many roles beside that of author. We find him donning the mask of editor, translator, commentator and sometimes even that of an imaginary reader engaged in dialogue with the author. Asking rhetorical questions and voicing different opinions according to the role he plays at the moment, he taunts the reader, who is thus forced not only to take a position toward the action presented by the author, but also to pass critical judgement on and give thoughtful appraisal to ideas which underlie it. Innumerable humourous references to works of other writers entice the reader to read these works and thereby broaden his knowledge, round out his education, making reading more enjoyable. The other novel, Der goldene Spiegel, addresses itself to another class, that of princes and other rulers, since it deals with government. Its aim is the education of princes. Instead of conversing directly with readers, as in Agathon, Wieland has here chosen for his medium a narrative within a narrative. The characters of the various narrators serve for the most part, the functions which Wieland elsewhere discharged in his many disguises. So here, also, questions are asked and commentaries given in the form of conversation between the narrators, but in fact aimed at the reader, who may resemble the characters of either narrative. Wieland himself plays several roles. The most important is that of the philosopher Danischmend in the introductory narrative. He also gives comments and explanations, often of a humourous nature, by introducing various translators who in the course of centuries have translated the 'work' into several languages and commented on it. Each novel is of a different tenor. In the Agathon, where he is speaking to his own class, Wieland seems to be less restrained, whereas in the goldene Spiegel, since it pertains to matters of the great of this world, he uses a more subtle approach to make his own ideas more palatable without being offensive. The enjoyable and intelligent alternation among the disguises of his didacticisms serves to bring the reader closer to the problems which Wieland has at heart without presenting mere facts. The reader is so skilfully coaxed that the conclusions at which he will arrive will be at least similar to those aimed at by Wieland. That the reader may reach a high level of insight and humanity is the immanent goal of the novels. Added to his pedagogical purpose are his fluent style and mastery of language which give Wieland's novels an air of freshness and liveliness unknown to other German novels of his time. / Arts, Faculty of / Central Eastern Northern European Studies, Department of / Graduate
