Elevers närhet och vistelse i naturområden kopplat till känsla av sammanhang : En kvantitativ studie / Students’ proximity to and time spent in natural areas related to sense of coherenceA quantitative study : A quantitative study

Lindbom, Philip, Wallmon, Elias January 2024 (has links)
Totalt deltog 100 elever i studien. / Background: There are several studies that indicate that there are positive health effects on the individual's health depending on how often they spend time in or how close they are living to natural areas. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to find out about students general sense of coherence (SOC) and how often they spend time in different types of natural areas. This study also intends to investigate students' sense of coherence in relation to how close they live to different natural areas and how often they visit them.  Hypotheses: Four different hypotheses were investigated. Hypothesis 1 was that high school students have a medium high sense of coherence. Hypothesis 2 was that high school students spend more time in natural areas if they live close to them. Hypothesis 3 was that students who spend more time in natural areas have a higher sense of coherence. Hypothesis 4 was that students who are closer to natural areas have a higher sense of coherence.  Method: The study has been conducted as a quantitative survey study. The surveys were conducted at a couple of different schools in Stockholm County. A total of 100 students participated. The surveys were collected through the digital platform Office Forms and thereafter analyzed in the statistical program SPSS. The significance of the correlations was tested through Spearman's rho. Results: The study showed that students in Stockholm county generally have a low SOC. The results also showed two significant relationships. The students who often visited beaches, seas or lakes generally had a higher SOC. The results also showed that the students who often visited what’s described as "other type of green area" also generally had a higher SOC. Conclusion: High school students in Stockholm County generally have a low SOC. It is also possible to draw conclusions that being by the water can have a positive impact on young people's sense of coherence.
