Horáčková, Lucie January 2010 (has links)
Diploma thesis "TV Lifestyle Magazines : Phenomenon of Masculinity, Makeover and Success" mostly deals with the concepts of life-style, taste, makeover a masculinity and their factual manifestation in particular television shows. In its theoretical part the thesis defines fundamental themes and concepts based on literature, especially according to Pierre Bourdieu, Dick Hebdige and Michel Foucault. The concept of life-style has gained much importance in contemporary society, because it's actually the style of life which has become the most important principle of social clustering. One of the first sociologists to reflect on the concept of life-style was Pierre Bourdieu. His conception of life-style is based on stratification and social inequalities. These inequalities are - according to Bourdieu - the product of deep structural inequalities underlying the society as a whole. The thesis also concerns with style as intentional communication, hegemony and resistence as perceived by Dick Hebdige. The body and the process of moulding it into the shape of disciplined bodies is the subject of another part of the thesis. Further on the thesis deals with the problem of body and masculinity, and above all with the process of building its image in the media. Two types of masculinity are defined; first hegemonic...

Interpersonální metatextové prostředky v odborném textu anglickém a českém / The expression of interpersonal metadiscourse in English and Czech academic texts

Sudková, Marcela January 2011 (has links)
This MA thesis explores the means of expressing interpersonal function in Czech and English academic texts. These expressions are found at various levels (e.g. lexical, grammatical and lexico-grammatical) and our classification takes into account both formal and functional point of view. From the various approaches to meadiscourse we have chosen the integrative approach subsuming both interpersonal and textual features of metadiscouse. However, this thesis focuses mainly on the interpersonal features. In the first part of the thesis, a detailed analysis of four academic texts was performed in order to get a range of expressions for the controlling search. The aim of the controlling search was to verify the findings from the detailed analysis and to find out to what extent the selected expressions were represented in a larger set of data. For this search we gathered twenty academic articles dealing with linguistics, ten per each language. Despite the different language types, Czech and English use similar means to express interpersonal features of metadiscourse. Stylistický rozbor dvou současných překladů bible z hlediska recepce dnešním čtenářem / A stylistic comparison of two modern translations of biblical text from the viewpoint of reception by present-day readers

Vlčková, Barbora January 2014 (has links)
The present thesis deals with two present-day English translations of the Bible - New American Standard Bible, which represents a conservative biblical translation, and Good News Bible, a more liberal translation, written in a way to be readable and accessible to the modern reader. The aim of the thesis is to analyze the two translations in terms of style, focusing on the syntactic and lexical levels. The research is based on a sample of 100 corresponding biblical verses drawn from each of the translations (altogether 200 verses), representing five different narrative parts of the Bible. The analysis of the lexical level is a qualitative one, comparing the nature of the vocabulary used in the two translations; the syntactic level is examined both qualitatively and quantitatively. The thesis attempts not only to describe the findings but also account for them, where possible, in terms of reader reception.

Vliv životního stylu na relapsy u pacientů závislých na alkoholu s opakovaným pobytem na detoxifikačním centru / The influence of lifestyle on relapsing among patients with alcohol dependence and with repeated stay at the detoxification centre

Duroňová, Šárka January 2014 (has links)
The main goal of this essay is to show that lifestyle has an influence on alcohol addiction and its process, but most importantly on maintaining abstinence after a treatment. From various research, which where made, is clear, that most of relapses are directly related to lifestyle of addicts (or at least to its parts such as health, social situation, economic status, hobbies etc.). That is why it is important to work on a lifestyle change during a treatment so that the addicts are in balance during the abstinence and are not exposed to risky situations which they do not know how to react to and deal with them. There is Relapse Prevention to learn these pocedures and it should be applied also during the treatment and after. Part of my essay is qualitative research, which should reflect previously mentioned phenomenons among ten respondents of detoxification centre, who experienced relapses before. I tried to prove that lifestyle and its disorders influence and increase the potential of relapse after completed treatment and it is necessary to change it during abstinence.
