Stable isotopes of water preserved in glaciers and icesheets have revolutionized our understanding of terrestrial paleoclimate. Post-deposition alteration of the stable water isotope ratios in snow and ice can obscure the original meteoric signal, therefore altering the interpretation of δ18O and δD as records of paleo-temperatures in ice. The effects of sublimation on δ18O and δD are not well-understood for massive (non-snow) ice and have been largely overlooked, particularly within the experimental literature. We present results from a series of environmental chamber experiments investigating alteration of the in-situ signal following sublimation. Our data suggest that sublimation enriches the ice remaining after sublimation in 18O and D. This is observed both in surface ice and in the signal of the ice at depth. These results could have important implications for studies utilizing surface ice δ18O and δD for reconstructions of paleoclimate.

There are numerous pre-existing fingerprint development techniques, however, often prints are difficult to develop, depending on their age or the surface upon which they have been deposited. Forensic scientists are relentlessly looking for new and better methods to enhance fingerprints. More recent technologies have higher sensitivity to very low levels of constituents present in residues and so are able to unearth significant details from a person's fingerprints at molecular level e.g. DNA, drug metabolites. Therefore, research continues in an attempt to generate novel, nondestructive processes that can enhance latent fingerprints. Exposing fingerprints to the p-block compounds selenium dioxide (SeO2), phosphorus sulfides (P4Sx) and phosphonitrilic chloride trimer (NPCl2)3, in the vapour phase resulted in latent prints being visualized on a range of media. Selenium dioxide revealed prints on metal surfaces (e.g. brass) which were enhanced further upon formation of a dark brown coating of copper-selenide formed on the surface when exposed to moisture, giving a better contrast. P4S3 vapour revealed a higher percentage of prints and samples had greater stability in air while although (NPCl2)3 was able to develop fingerprints, the low quality was undesirable. Initially it was thought that (NPCl2)3 has the potential for further derivatisation but was proven very difficult to interact with compounds especially those with the potential to induce fluorescence. However, all three compounds are commercially available and sublimation techniques are straightforward.

A questão que move este trabalho concerne à relação do sujeito com o amor: por que, para alguns, de forma recorrente, ou para todos, em determinado(s) momento(s), amar não implica demandar amor, demandar a presença do outro, construir e suportar um enlace junto ao objeto de amor, mas parece, justamente, ao contrário, evitar que esse laço se estabeleça? O que está em jogo nesse amor que se sustenta mediante a segurança de um impedimento, de uma distância que prive (e preserve), ao menos em parte, o sujeito, do contato com seu amado. Que elementos sustentam e requerem que o sujeito se coloque a amar, necessariamente, de fora do laço? Aqui não estamos diante da lógica do rodeio como forma de se aproximar e chegar ao amado: nossa interrogação recai sobre o rodeio como fim em si mesmo. A questão desta pesquisa partiu inicialmente da biografia “Desejos Secretos, a história de Sidonie C., a paciente homossexual de Freud”, mas ganhou desdobramento ao dialogar com produções artísticas no campo da poesia, com o arranjo colocado em cena pelo amor cortês e pelo movimento “As Preciosas”. A partir disso, orientados pelo referencial da psicanálise de Jacques Lacan, resgatamos as noções referentes ao amor, à transferência e ao amor cortês. Na seqüência do trabalho, tratamos de dois efeitos relativos ao limite do que pode o sujeito suportar em seu enlace ao Outro: a angústia e a passagem ao ato. Ao fim, passando pelo desejo do Outro, chegamos aos avatares da demanda e da sublimação, indicando aí distinções a partir das figuras topológicas do grafo do desejo, do oito interior e do toro. Nesse percurso, colocamos a psicanálise a trabalhar, com o objetivo de elaborar o paradoxo levantado. / The question that drives this essay concerns the relationship of the subject with love: why, for some, on a regular basis, or for everyone, at a particular time(s), love means neither to require love, nor to require the other's presence, nor to build and support a bond with the object of love, but it seems precisely the opposite, to keep that bond from happening? What is at stake in this love that is established by the security of a constraint, by a distance that deprives (and preserves), at least in parts, the subject from contacting his beloved one? Which elements that sustain and claim that the subject puts himself to love, necessarily, out of the bond? Here we are not facing the logic of the deviousness as a way to get closer and get to the beloved one: our question lays down on the deviousness as an end in itself. The question of this research first came from the biography "Desejos Secretos, a história de Sidonie C., a paciente homossexual de Freud”, but it unfolded from the dialogue with artistic productions in the field of poetry, with the arrangement brought to light by the Courtly Love and The Precious movement. Having these fields taken into consideration and, guided by the reference of the psychoanalysis of Jacques Lacan, we recover the notions relating to love, to the transfer and to the Courtly Love. Going further with the work, we deal with two effects of the boundary of what the subject can stand on his bond to the Other: the anguish and the passing to act. In the end, going through the desire of the Other, we came to the avatars of demand and sublimation, indicating then distinctions to the topological figures from the graph of desire, the eight inside and the torus. Along the way, we put psychoanalysis to work, with the goal of developing the paradox raised.

Este trabalho partiu da preocupação com a inapetência para a vida nos dias atuais. Diante de sujeitos que se sentem desapossados do próprio viver, e de uma sociedade que imprime rótulos de vida nos sujeitos, trazemos possibilidades de entendimento dessa área tão fragilizada atualmente: a criatividade a esfera da vida em que o sujeito se move no mundo com realizações inovadoras.Tomando como referência a psicanálise, analisamos as metáforas linguísticas da criatividade nas obras de Freud e Winnicott, e percebemos dois grandes campos semânticos: a criatividade como desvio dos interesses primários do sujeito, e como abertura, autocriação e cumplicidade com o mundo. Na metáfora freudiana do desvio sublimatório encontramos ainda duas tonalidades de significação: um emblema simbólico do interesse frustrado, ou um consolo diante da incompletude humana. Seguindo esses enredos metafóricos, discutimos as concepções teóricas fundamentais em que cada autor estava engajado: as concepções de mente e as corporeidades envolvidas nos processos criativos. Com a multiplicação das ferramentas linguísticas do conceito de criatividade, proporcionamos um leque metafórico mais amplo para aqueles que acolhem pessoas cujo sofrimento é resultado da indiferença com o mundo. / This research started on the worry about the indifference to life nowadays. In the face of subjects who feel theirselves deprived of their lives, and of a society that fixes the ways of life, we indicated possibilities of comprehending this so fragilized area: the creativity this field of life which the subject moves himself in the world with innovating realizations. In the psychoanalytical perspective, we analyzed the linguistic metaphors of creativity in Freuds and Winnicotts thoughts, and attempted to two semantical fields: the creativity as a subterfuge of subjects primary interests, and as an approaching, an auto-creation and complicity with the world. The freudian metaphor of a sublimate detour has two tones of meaning: a symbolic emblem of a failed interest, or a consolation in face of the human uncompleteness. Going ahead with these metaphors, we disserted about the fundamental theorical concepts each author was engaged in: the mind conceptions and the corporealities involved in the creative proceeding. Multiplying the linguistical tools of the creativity, we offered a larger metaphorical horizon to that who listen people that suffer from inaptitude to life.

A sublimação é um conceito forjado por Freud que tem por finalidade responder sobre a incidência da sexualidade num campo que não é diretamente ligado à função sexual. Freud inicialmente ligou o conceito de sublimação ao desenvolvimento da sociedade, mantendo entre eles uma estreita ligação através da idéia de aprovação social, coerência e harmonia, sendo a sexualidade algo que deveria ser posta a serviço da civilização pela educação e restrição de sua manifestação. A importância dada aos aspectos quantitativos presentes na subjetividade fez com que a sublimação adquirisse maior destaque, sendo diretamente ligada ao destino a ser dado aos elementos que resistiam à lógica da predicação e significação, buscando alternativas para a manifestação desses fatores que ameaçavam constantemente desestruturar o psiquismo. A sublimação se torna um processo necessário para articular a subjetividade a uma lógica da inadequação e do inacabamento, mostrando-se um operador não só da clínica como também da cultura, pois leva em consideração a sustentação da posição desejante sem incremento de mal-estar. Esses fatores aproximam de maneira surpreendente estética e psicanálise através de um novo campo de atuação. Freud percebeu a capacidade terapêutica da sublimação no final de sua vida, e Lacan, outro psicanalista que se mostrou muito interessado neste tema, também nos deixou uma série de elaborações que podem nos ser úteis para enfrentar os desafios que o nosso tempo produz. / The sublimation is a concept made by Freud and has finality to answer for questions about the sexuality in a field that wasnt fixed into sexual function. In the beginning Freud linked the concept of sublimation and the society development, keeping between then relationships around social approbation, coherence, and harmony. The sexuality has to be put at service of the civilization across education and restriction. The importance done at the aspects quantitative present in into subjectivity made more importance to sublimation, putting him destiny the elements that resist logic of signification and predication, looking for alternatives to manifest those factors that menace frequently destruction the psychics. The sublimation becomes um necessary process to articulate the subjectivity with an logic of inadequate and no finishing, acquires more detach when we looks not only the clinic but the culture, considering the desire position without indisposition. This thesis deals with freezy sublimation in cryoattachement Gatan Alto 2500 connected to scanning electron microscope (SEM) JEOL JSM-7401F. The thesis is devided into the theoretical and practical parts. In the theoretical part I focus mainly on physical qualities of water and on problematics of freezy-drying. I also describe qualities of subsidiary substances which are being used when working with cryotechnology. I briefly describe technology used: cryoattachement Alto 2500 and SEM JSM-7401F. In the practical part I deal with the description of the method that I have developed in order to measure weight decrease of frozen specimen owning to its sublimation in vacuum. I provide measurement results of the sublimation of these substances: demineralized water, Dextran, glycerol and phosphate buffer saline.
