Employment specialists' competencies as predictors of employment outcomes.

Taylor, Amanda Christine 25 May 2010 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Employment specialist competencies were examined as predictors of employment outcomes for consumers with severe mental illness participating in supported employment. Using a cross-sectional correlational design a variety of self-report and supervisor-rated performance measures were examined for their association with three consumer employment outcomes (e.g., the percentage of consumers on an employment specialist's caseload that were competitively employed, the percentage of consumers on an employment specialist's caseload that were employed 90 consecutive days, and the rate in which consumers dropped out of employment services). Six mental health agencies with a total of 57 employment specialists and 14 supervisors from across the nation participated in the study. Competitive employment rates ranged among employment specialists from 0% to 80%. Higher supervisor-rated job performance, supervisor-rated employment specialist efficacy, percentage of work time spent in the community during the past month, and number of contacts with consumers during the past month were related to improved consumer employment outcomes. However, employment specialist attitudes, knowledge of supported employment, conscientiousness, and self-efficacy were unrelated to employment outcomes. This study is one of the first of its kind to examine employment specialist competencies as they relate to supported employment for consumers with severe mental illness. While supported employment is a great improvement over traditional vocational programs, further examination of employment specialist competencies could hold the key to unlocking employment success for many more consumers.

It is about to locate how the people with deficiency are situated historically, trying to understand which are the mediations and comprehend how is subjective lived the Cotes Law in the life of those people, and how this law work to orient the formation practices and job preparation that are offer to them. To do that, we will use the concepts of ethical-politic suffering, sense and meaning, social stigma, identity and preconception to analyze the living of looking for a job, and to became a worker with proper job preparation according to the conditions offers in the Cote, having as a background the social-historical condition unfavorable to inclusion to those people and the preparation project to the work that is given to them. The investigation method is based on Vygotsky s work that consider action, work and affect as in dissociable units of subjectivity, with the support of Spinoza philosophy and Marx s theory of society. The results pointed out a lag between juridical and social recognize, through the absence of social stigma, by preconception, by identity models presupposed, abandon and loneness, social conditions lived with sad felling, such as fear, humiliation, angry compromising the action potency of those people. The sense of work is ambiguous: it is only way to get self-esteem and recognition, (moreover than acquire deeds), however it is also fountain of sad passions, especially the constant fear of making a mistake, which will cost their job. It clams for work preparation and affective support, which those people encounter in their labor professor that accomplish them for a while, and to whom they send letters, expressing their feelings and needs. It is pointed out the importance of ―supported employment‖, where the professional act as a mediator to the effective of cotes law, at the development of abilities and as a affective reference / Esta pesquisa visa analisar na perspectiva da psicologia sócio-histórica a dimensão subjetiva do processo dialético de inclusão/exclusão no trabalho (com e sem apoio) das pessoas com deficiência intelectual para refletir sobre a educação profissional e a proposta de Emprego Apoiado.

Zaměstnávání lidí s tělěsným a kombinovaným postižením z pohledu zaměstnavatele / Employing people with physical and multiple disability from the employer{\crq}s point of view

VALIČKOVÁ, Jana January 2008 (has links)
Employing people with physical and multiple disability from the employer{\crq}s point of view I chose the subject of this thesis because I work for o.s. Asistence as a work counselor within the framework of a transit program and one of my duties is to help people with physical and multiple disability find a job as well as establish contact with employers. People with health disability are among social groups most threatened by unemployment. They make up about 13% of the level of unemployment which is increasing. There are surely many reasons for such a high level of unemployment among people with health and multiple disability. Among them we may rank insufficient coverage of services supporting this social group in the process of seeking work, next a low number of vacancies and finally the lack of experience of employers with employing people with a health disability. A number of people with physical and multiple disability would very much like to be employed in the regular labour market. There are also employers who would very much like to employ such a person, but they do not know how to find a new employ or who to contact as well as how does the whole process of employing disabled people work. One of the services dedicated to this social problem that seems quite promising is the supported employment. The aims of this thesis were various. Partly to describe the process of employing people with physical and multiple disabilities from the employer{\crq}s viewpoint. Then to describe in what way employers need to be supported when employing people with physical and multiple disabilities. The final aim was to describe the motivation of current employers to employ people with a health disability. The first part of this work deals with the characteristics of people with physical and multiple disability, with their rights, the relation of the society regarding the employment of these people and legal aspects applied to employing people with health disability. I also described the services that are provided to employers employing people with physical and multiple disabilities by agencies of supported employment. I also mentioned Corporate Social Responsibility and its usage in the social area. The research itself was carried out in collaboration with o.s. Asistence. The group on which the research was carried out was made up by five employers employing people with physical and multiple disability and by five counselors from o.s. Asistence. The data were collected by means of a semi-structured interview. The interview itself focused on the motivation of the employers to employ people with health disability and the legislation pertinent to the discussed problem. The interview with the counselors regarded similar topics with regard as to how do they participate in the process themselves. This work may be a source of information for current or potential employers of people with physical or multiple disability. At the same time it may be of use to people providing services to this social group by helping them in finding a job.

The research part of the thesis describes the qualitative research aimed at identifying and describing the benefits of Job Clubs for individuals with physical and combined disabilities in improving their employability. The research was carried out in o. s. Asistence from December 2007 to April 2008 using the structured interview methodology. Two groups of respondents were interviewed. Role státu a neziskových organizací v řešení nezaměstnanosti osob se zdravotním postižením / The role of the state and nonprofit organisations in the solution to the disabled people unemployment

Kvitová, Michaela January 2009 (has links)
The diploma thesis named "The Role Of The State And Nonprofit Organizations In The Solution To The Disabled People Unemployment" is devoted to the ways of solving this negative phenomenon. Those instruments of the employment policy, which are mostly used against the disabled people unemployment are presented here. The use of these state instruments of treatment is sufficient but there are still many issues remaining in the field of unemployment. Especially, the Assisted Employment Service aimed to the employment of disabled people meets very often with the lack of financial support for its operations. This absence of necessary funds is the result of an insufficient legislation in this field. One of the possible effective solutions is the social policy concept which being a new instrument of the public policy plays a challenging role for the whole contemporara society.

Fortin, Guillaume 12 1900 (has links)
Although work is a central component of the recovery of individuals with a severe mental illness (SMI), studies have shown employment rates ranging from 10 to 20% among that population. Among different services aimed at integrating people with a SMI to the labour market, supported employment programs (SEP) are the most effective with 50 to 60% of their participants getting a competitive employment, without however offering job tenure. Several studies have investigated which factors impact job acquisition and tenure among that population but personality has never been considered, although it has been recognized as an important determinant of functioning. Furthermore, few questionnaires aiming at evaluating personality according to the Five-Factor Model of personality (FFM) have been used with a SMI population and those questionnaires have demonstrated psychometric properties that do not satisfy commonly accepted and recognized criteria. This thesis focuses on the link between personality and work integration of people with a SMI. The first part aims at validating a personality questionnaire according to the FFM in order to achieve the objectives of the second part of the thesis. For this purpose, two samples were recruited: one of 259 university students and one of 141 people with a SMI. Confirmatory factor analyses led to the development of a new 15-item questionnaire (NEO-15) presenting with strong fit indices, internal consistency and convergent validity, which makes it well suited to measure normal personality in time-limited settings. The second part of this thesis presents the results of a study conducted with 82 people with a SMI enrolled in a SEP and aiming at investigating which variables predict job acquisition and tenure, with a special focus on normal and pathological personality variables. Results from logistic regressions and Cox regressions (survival analyses) demonstrated that prior employment, negative symptoms and level of pathological personality were predictive of competitive employment acquisition and delay to such acquisition. Additional series of Cox regressions showed that tenure of a competitive job was only predicted by conscientiousness. Although presenting some limits, restricted sample sizes in particular, our results demonstrate the relevance and the importance of considering normal and pathological personality in studies on work outcomes of people with a SMI. Furthermore, this thesis revealed the suitability of a new personality questionnaire to the SMI population. Future directions regarding the work integration and treatment of people with SMI considering these results are discussed.

Rius Bonjoch, Maria 02 December 2005 (has links)
The professional activity is basic in the life of any person and in the case of the disabled people it is highly powerful so that they assume the adult identity. So, in the thesis, an approach is made to know more about the situation between disabled people and work and to study what kind of measures explain the current labour insertion of disabled people either in shelter places or in the ordinary labour market. The general goal of the thesis is an in-depth investigation about a labour insertion experience of mental disability people in the Catalonia's Administration. The investigation has been structured in two phases. First of all it has made a descriptive analysis of searched group. Then it has been developed a case study framed in a qualitative methodological perspective to show the witness of the protagonists, starting off from their stories and to pick up their valuations.
