ELECTRON-BEAM PATTERNING OF TEFLON AF FOR SURFACE PLASMON RESONANCE SENSING

Sultan, Mansoor A. 01 January 2015 (has links)
Variable pressure electron beam etching and lithography for Teflon AF has been demonstrated. The relation between dose and etching depth is tested under high vacuum and water vapor. High resolution structures as small as 75 nm half-pitch have been resolved. Several simulation tools were tested for surface plasmon excitation. Grating based dual mode surface plasmon excitation has been shown numerically and experimentally.

Separation of fluorocarbon gases from a reactor plasma system / Alfred Teo Grunenberg

Grunenberg, Alfred Teo January 2008 (has links)
South Africa has natural resources in mineral feedstock containing gold, manganese, chromium, vanadium, copper, antimony, phosphate rock, uranium, fluorspar and titanium. A high percentage of these ores are exported in unbeneficiated form. There are beneficiation opportunities to transform the raw materials to value-added products, thus increasing employment and stimulating the South African economy. Fluorocarbon (CxFy) gases can be produced via high-temperature plasma processes, where fluorspar and carbon (CaF2 + C) react at -6000K. These gases are traditionally separated by means of costly and unsafe cryogenic distillation. The focus of this project is to propose a feasible separation process and to interlink it to a plasma system in order to develop a conceptual plant that can produce 2500 t/a C2F4 and 625 t/a C3F6 safely and cost-effectively, both with 96% purity. To execute the above a literature survey was done giving vital information on absorption and distillation systems as well as membranes that can be used to separate CF4 from CxFy gas streams at acceptable pressures and temperatures. / Thesis (M.Sc. Engineering Sciences (Chemical Engineering))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus,

Metallization and Modification of Low-k Dielectric Materials

Martini, David M. 12 1900 (has links)
Aluminum was deposited onto both Teflon AF and Parylene AF surfaces by chemical vapor deposition of trimethylaluminum. This work shows that similar thin film (100 Angstroms) aluminum oxide adlayers form on both polymers at the low temperature dosing conditions used in the studies. Upon anneal to room temperature and above, defluorination of the polymer surfaces increased and resulted in fluorinated aluminum oxide adlayers; the adlayers were thermally stable to the highest temperatures tested (600 K). Angle-resolved spectra showed higher levels of fluorination toward the polymer/adlayer interface region. Copper films were also deposited at low temperature onto Teflon AF using a copper hexafluoroacetylacetonate-cyclooctadiene precursor. Annealing up to 600 K resulted in the loss of precursor ligands and a shift to metallic copper. As with aluminum adlayers, some polymer defluorination and resulting metal (copper) fluoride was detected. Parylene AF and polystyrene films surfaces were modified by directly dosing with water vapor passed across a hot tungsten filament. Oxygen incorporation into polystyrene occurred exclusively at aromatic carbon sites, whereas oxygen incorporation into parylene occurred in both aromatic and aliphatic sites. Oxygen x-ray photoelectron spectra of the modified polymers were comparable, indicating that similar reactions occurred. The surface oxygenation of parylene allowed enhanced reactivity toward aluminum chemical vapor deposition. Silicon-carbon (Si-Cx) films were formed by electron beam bombardment of trimethylvinylsilane films which were adsorbed onto metal substrates at low temperatures in ultra-high vacuum. Oxygen was also added to the films by coadsorbing water before electron beam bombardment; the films were stable to more than 700 K, with increasing silicon-oxygen bond formation at elevated temperatures. Copper metal was sputter deposited in small increments onto non-oxygenated films. X-ray photoelectric spectra show three-dimensional copper growth (rather than layer-by-layer growth), indicating only weak interaction between the copper and underlying films. Annealing at elevated temperatures caused coalescence or growth of the copper islands, with spectra indicating metallic copper rather than copper oxide.

Zlepšování provozních vlastností kluzného kontaktu / Improving the operating characteristics of sliding contact

Mišinger, Lukáš January 2011 (has links)
This master's thesis is focused on comparison of various conception of slide contacts. Studies of this theme are based on laboratory models and consequential experiments and measurements to the application of innovated slide contacts. The innovation is based on application Teflon on the slide contact's components. In this project there are presented results from measurements with application of innovated brushes „sT“, brush holders with „sT“ and new conception of slide contact with auxiliary teflon brush on DC machine. Next part is about innovation of trolley-bus traction collector, which was used on trolley-bus and results of its laboratory experiments. The last part presents results of long term experiments with "sT" technology, which was applicated in a few variants of industrial usage.

Posouzení koncepce nového řešení kluzného kontaktu v elektrických strojích / Assessment of the design of the new solution sliding contact in electrical machines

Záhejský, Petr January 2016 (has links)
The thesis is devoted to assessing the concept of a new solution to the sliding contact in electrical machines. The work is focused mainly on the issue of collector engines, which are almost exclusively used in electric hand tools. Much of the work is devoted to angle grinders, which are usually used in extreme conditions and demands for seamless operation are enormous. In order partial insight into the problems in the introduction are studied phenomena acting on the sliding contact, wear and durability. Then further materials and diagnostic methods for increasing the transfer efficiency brush - commutator brush - ring. The following sections of this thesis is also considered a proposal innovated brush along with the practical verification and evaluation of the suitability of the use of innovative sliding contact.
