Associação de redes de Petri com objetos virtuais e reais para controle de ambientes virtuais imersivos e telepresença / Association of Petri nets with virtual and real objects for controlling immersive virtual environments and telepresence

Claiton de Oliveira 25 June 2008 (has links)
The telepresence, as a refinement of teleoperation, allows the individual not only to control the simulation but also the own reality. Since this provides the ability to manipulate the physical reality remotely in real time, through its virtual representation. Through the technology of virtual reality, one can create a wide variety of environments suitable for all kinds of applications, enabling simulations of the situations in a real world environment or virtual world. The application of virtual environments in the manufacturing process is related to both the maintenance and training, and also the creation and simulation of virtual prototypes before their use in the shop-floor. The use of Petri nets for modeling virtual environments, shows itself as a powerful graphics/mathematics tool that can capture the main features of virtual reality systems, as well as offering interesting empirical results in automatic verification of concurrence and real time systems. By allowing to model non-deterministic and parallel computation, modeling of virtual environments with Petri nets is appropriate not only for simulation, verification and validation of these systems, but also for controlling the environments modeled. By associating the elements of a Petri net with the elements of the object oriented paradigm of a set of classes that are the objects that will compose the virtual environments and telepresence systems, one gets a valuable tool for controlling of the methods of virtual and real objects to be invoked. The objective of this work is the development of the mode of association of Petri nets with virtual and real objects for controlling immersive virtual environments and telepresence, based on the description of a telepresence authoring system controlled by PN. The results will bring progress on the development and deployment of virtual manufacturing applications in an immersive 3D visualization environment.

Evaluating the Effectiveness of a Telepresence-Enabled Cognitive Apprenticeship Model of Teacher Professional Development

Edmondson, R. Shawn 01 May 2006 (has links)
This exploratory research used a mixed-methods design to compare the effectiveness of a telepresence-enabled cognitive apprenticeship model of teacher professional development (TEAM-PD) to that of a traditional workshop model by examining outcomes in teacher pedagogy and student achievement. Measures of the lll degree to which teachers in both groups enacted mathematics pedagogy provided mixed results. Both groups demonstrated similar patterns of behavior and cognition, indicating modest levels of pedagogy implementation. Although the experimental group demonstrated higher levels of enactment of the mathematics pedagogy, the comparison group demonstrated a faster rate of growth. Student outcome data were clear: students of teachers in the experimental group scored substantially higher on a test of relevant mathematics content than students of teachers in the comparison group. Collectively the results suggest that TEAM-PD has potential to be an effective model of teacher professional development.

Tillgänglighet på kulturarvsgårdar med telepresence

Carlström, Daniel, Englin, Dennis January 2020 (has links)

Mobile Intimacy: Telepresence, mobile technology, and romantic relationships

Czaja, Julia Claudine January 2012 (has links)
Mobile media are quickly becoming primary sources of communication in everyday life. With this progress, comes the ability to experience an array of different degrees and types of presence. Individuals can be both in the physical presence of others as well as present with others at a distance by experiencing telepresence. This study examined the role of mobile media in the context of romantic relationships. It looked at the relationship between the senses of intimacy and telepresence as they were experienced by individuals. The theories of apparatgeist and perpetual contact were employed to describe the relationship between the nature of the technology, the associated behavior of its use, and the experience of various forms of telepresence. Interviews with fourteen participants provided the data analyzed in this qualitative study. These interviews were transcribed and used for a thematic analysis of presence and intimacy experience. The results describe a wide variance and nuanced reality of how individuals sense the presence of each other through mobile technology. These results contribute to an understanding of how individuals understand and talk about their experience of telepresence and also what it means to them in their personal lives. / Mass Media and Communication

The effect of telepresence, social presence and involvement on consumer brand engagement: An empirical study of non-profit organizations

Algharabat, R., Rana, Nripendra P., Dwivedi, Y.K., Alawan, A., Qasem, Z. 25 September 2020 (has links)
Yes / Although there are several marketing implications that have been considered in the context of social media marketing, less attention has been paid to the influence of antecedents of consumer brand engagement (telepresence, social presence and involvement) and their consequences for non-profit organizations. Thus, the main purpose of current research is to examine the influence of telepresence, social presence and involvement on consumer brand engagement (CBE) (second-order), which in turn affects electronic word of mouth and willingness to donate. To test the proposed model, this paper used social media platforms. We employed a Facebook page that presents non-profit organizations (brands) using a sample of non-students. We found that telepresence, social presence and involvement positively impact CBE, which in turn impacts electronic word of mouth and willingness to donate. The findings of our research demonstrate how CBE is formed in this particular context and what outcomes are to be expected, with important implications for both marketing theory and practice.

Telepresence using Kinect and an animated robotic face : An experimental study regarding the sufficiency of using a subset of the CANDIDE-3 model and the Microsoft Kinect Face Tracking device for capturing and animating the most typical facial expressions / Telepresence med hjälp av Kinect och ett animerat robotiserat ansikte : En experimentell studie om hur väl en delmängd av CANDIDE-3-modellen och Microsoft Kinects ansiktsigenkänning kan fånga och animera de mest typiska ansiktsuttrycken

Linder, Johannes, Gudmandsen, Magnus January 2013 (has links)
This Bachelor’s Thesis in Computer Science investigates the use of the parameterised facial animation model named CANDIDE-3 (J. Ahlberg, 2001) in Telepresence communication with relatively cheap hardware. An experimental study was conducted to evaluate how well an implementation using the Microsoft Kinect Face Tracking device could capture and animate the 6 classical emotional states: joy, sadness, surprise, anger, fear and disgust. A total of 80 test candidates took part in a survey where they were to try and classify the emotional states of images of photographed and animated faces. The animated faces were created using the prototype system built for the purpose of the survey and rendered onto the robotic Furhat face (Al Moubayed, S., Skantze, G., Beskow, J., Stefanov, K., & Gustafson, J, 2012). Results showed that a person’s emotional state is preserved very well through the animation technique used, and for some basic emotions, like joy or sadness, the animation could even amplify the emotional state for the viewer. However, the 6 Action Units captured from the Kinect device were not enough to sufficiently distinguish between even some of most the basic emotional states (e.g. disgust, anger).

Telepresence and remote communication through virtual reality

Rydenfors, Gabriella January 2017 (has links)
This Master Thesis concerns a telepresence implementation which utilizes state-of-the-art virtual reality combined with live 360 degree video. Navigation interfaces for telepresence with virtual reality headsets were developed and evaluated through a user study. An evaluation of telepresence as a communication media was performed, comparing it to video communication. The result showed that telepresence was a better communication media than video communication.

Närvaro på distans : psykodynamiska terapeuters erfarenhet av att övergå till att bedriva terapi på distans / Presence at a distance : psychodynamic therapists’experiences of transitioning to distance therapy

Callenberg, Josefine January 2021 (has links)
Introduction: Even though distance therapy has been shown to be effective across a range of measures and increases access many psychotherapists still remain sceptic to the format.   Aim: By examining how psychodynamic psychotherapists experience transitioning to distance therapy as regards the therapeutic process this study results in a contribution to the understanding of the continuing scepticism among therapists.  Method: A qualitative, phenomenological study of semi-structured interviews with five psychotherapists using thematic analysis.  Result: Two themes are identified: Presence and A new situation with two and four subthemes respectively: enabling and lamented; bodily communication, demarcation, therapeutic frame and preoccupation. Discussion: Due to preoccupation presence understood as a relational quality of emotional, cognitive and functional availability could be continually lamented in distance therapy. The discussion results in a model showing that if a certain therapeutic technique, feeling in the room or therapeutic role is an underlying intention in the therapeutic process preoccupation will continue to be a factor in distance therapy encounters. Increased knowledge as regards therapists´ intentions in the therapeutic process is forwarded as a key factor to further acceptance of the distance therapy format.
