Les outils actuels de gestion en temps réel des réseaux s’appuient sur deux outils logiciels : les logiciels de prévision météorologique et les logiciels de simulation hydraulique. L’usage des premiers est une cause importante d’imprécision et d’incertitude, l’usage des seconds oblige à des pas temporels de décision importants du fait de leur besoin en temps de calcul. Cette façon de procéder fait que les résultats obtenus sont généralement éloignés de ceux attendus. L’idée force du projet CARDIO est de changer de paradigme de base en abordant la problématique par la face « automatique » plutôt que par celle « hydrologie ». L’objectif est de rendre possible la réalisation d’un grand nombre de simulations en des temps très courts (quelques secondes) permettant de se passer des prévisions météorologiques en utilisant directement les données pluviométriques recueillies en temps réel. L’objectif est de parvenir à un système où la prise de décision est réalisée à partir de données fiables et où la correction de l’erreur est permanente. / Generally, real-time management of sewer systems uses two main tools. The first software one, dedicated to weather forecast is known by their imprecision and uncertainty. The main issue of the second one concerns their computational complexity, which becomes a burden, as they require temporal important steps of decision. This leads to an important problem, where the obtained results are generally different from the really waited ones. The main idea and objective of the CARDIO project, which are the core of this thesis, is to deal with this important problem using a new paradigm based on “automatic” concepts rather than applied from “hydrology” point of view. Such approach allows the realization of a large amount of numerical simulation in a fast way during a very short time (a few seconds). This allows dispensing of weather forecast by using real-time meditative pluviometric data directly. The objective is to achieve a system where the decision-making is made based on reliable data and also, the error correction is permanent.

Finding Time for Teacher Collaboration: A Content and Legal Analysis of the Role of Collective Bargaining in Teacher Collaboration TimeSnyder, Jason January 2020 (has links)
It is commonly observed that elementary and secondary teachers often work in isolation and that providing opportunities for teachers to work together helps improve student outcomes. But it can be difficult to find time for teacher collaboration, whether in professional learning communities, grade-level teams, or other collaborative groups. Given the extensive role of collective bargaining agreements in governing teachers’ hours and working conditions, this study explores the role of collective bargaining in creating time for teacher collaboration. Using legal and content analyses, the study examines scope-of-bargaining statutes in each state to determine the extent to which district and union leaders are required to bargain over teacher time. It also uses the content-analysis methodology to review how collective bargaining agreements from thirty-one of the nation’s largest school districts restrict or promote teacher time for collaboration.
The study concludes that collective bargaining plays a considerable role in teacher collaboration time. Not only do most states have statutes that require stakeholders to bargain to create opportunities for collaboration time, the resulting collective bargaining agreements directly and indirectly affect time for collaboration. These findings establish that in almost all states where collective bargaining is required, school officials and teachers cannot advance teacher collaboration without the assistance of collective bargaining. Moreover, success in creating collaboration time depends largely on how the collective bargaining agreements restrict or promote that time. In light of these findings, the study recommends that local leaders and state policymakers take steps to promote teacher collaboration through collective bargaining by (1) prioritizing and reducing teacher workload; (2) removing teacher duty-hour limits; (3) expanding noninstructional time, including through additional teacher-collaboration set-asides; and (4) involving school leadership in determining how noninstructional time is used.

A master thesis within mechanical engineering performed by two student has been conducted at Scania in Oskarshamn. The purpose has been to investigate if Discrete Event Simulation using ExtendSim can be applied to increase Scanias assembly productivity. The projectiles was to investigate how the buffer systems could be managed by vary the amount of buffers and their transport speed. The assembly line takt times with regard of their availability was also investigated. The method of approach was to build a simulation model to gaining valid decision making information regarding these aspects. Process stop data was extracted and imported to ExtendSim where the reliability library was used to generate shutdowns. Comparing 24 sets over 100 runs to each other a median standard deviation of 0,91 % was achieved. Comparing the total amount of assembled cabs over a time period of five weeks with the real timedata a difference of 4,77 % was achieved. A difference of 1,85 % in total amount of shutdown time was also achieved for the same conditions. The biggest effect of varying buffer spaces was for system 6A. An increasement of up to 20 more assembled cabs over a time period of five weeks could then be achieved. By increasing all the buffertransports speeds by 40 % up to 20 more assembled cabs over a time period of ve weeks could be achieved. A push and pull system was also investigated where the push generated the best results. A 22 hour decreasement of total shutdown time and an increasement of 113 more assembled cabs over a time period of ve weeks could be achieved.

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Knowledge workers often suffer productivity loss because of unsuccessful interruption handling, which can lead to even more detrimental behaviors like "cyber-slacking" and procrastination. Many of the interruption management techniques proposed in the research literature focus on minimizing interruption occurrences. However, given the inevitability of internal and external interruptions in everyday life, it may be more practical to help people regulate how they respond to interruptions using persuasive technologies. The aim of this dissertation is to explore and evaluate the design of persuasive computer agents that encourage information workers to resume interrupted work. Based on a systematic review of interruptions in the workplace, theories of self-regulation, and theories guiding the design of persuasive technologies, this dissertation describes the creation of a prototype research platform, WiredIn. WiredIn enables researchers to explore a variety of interruption resumption support strategies on desktop computers. Two empirical studies that investigate the efficacy, attributes, and consequences of applying the paradigms embodied in WiredIn in controlled and real-life working environments are presented here. Both studies validate the effect of persuasive interventions on improving interruption management behaviors; the second study also provides design suggestions that can inform future work in supporting interruption management and multitasking.

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / This Master's thesis is based on a qualitative study which aimed to understand the perspectives of married male and female law students and the ways in which they managed the interaction between law school and family life. The data was gathered from in-depth interviews with 23 married law students at an urban university. The spillover model was used to address both how being married impacts students' school experiences, as well as to look at how the law school experience influences students' families. In an analysis of marriage-to-school spillover, the married law students reported feeling that they were having a non-normative law school experience as a result of their marital and parenthood statuses and they often compared their experiences to that of an "unmarried other" group of more traditional students. In an analysis of school-to-marriage spillover, students reported various types of strains that resulted from missing out on parts of a perceived normal married life as a result of the demands of law school. Several key differences were noted between the ways male and female students handled the often competing demands of marriage, children, and law school. The implications for the families as well as for legal education are discussed.

“I have a five-minute break, I pick up the phone, and then 40 minutes have passed” : A study on time management apps, systematic breaks, and mobile phone use while studyingKind, Tuva January 2024 (has links)
This research aims to investigate how using time management apps with systematic breaks affects the focus and productivity of first-year students during self-studying. It specifically explores their experiences of taking breaks through a self-tracking timer app using the Pomodoro technique. The study also examines how the students’ phone habits impact their studies. A mixed-methods approach was employed, beginning with a questionnaire to understand the participants’ phone habits and time management app experience. They then used a Pomodoro app for a week, with the option to keep a diary. Finally, semi-structured interviews explored their experiences, and the qualitative data was analyzed inductively through a thematic analysis. Participants found mobile phone use distracting while studying and had difficulty reducing it. The Pomodoro app helped some focus and reduced phone use, but others preferred existing methods or started skipping breaks. Breaks spent online were common but offline breaks were generally valued higher. Participants emphasized achieving productivity as a path to well-being, staying on track, reducing stress, and leading to satisfaction. Regarding design implications and time management preferences, participants look for simple self-tracking methods like calendars, drawing an urge to more long-term planning tools rather than timers.
