Air circulation inside refrigerated semi-trailers transporting fresh produce

Hui, Ka Po Catherine, 1976- January 2001 (has links)
In North America, refrigerated semi-trailers are commonly used to transport large volume of produce. They are equipped with refrigeration and air circulation systems to provide an optimum transit enviromnent for the produce. Air circulation plays a vital role in maintaining produce temperature during transport. Its performance is greatly affected by the availability of air channels through and around the load. / This study is an attempt to evaluate the performance of the air circulation system. Air temperature data was gathered from 20 mixed loads of produce transported in trailers having a variety of accessories and using different loading patterns. Pearson correlation coefficient was used as an indicator to describe the air distribution inside the semi-trailers. The results showed that the air distribution inside semi-trailers is generally not uniform. In most cases, the areas that received little amount of airflow were the middle section along the length and width, and the middle and bottom sections along the height of trailers. The variability in the results precluded any determination of the effect of trailer accessories and loading patterns on the air distribution.

Vehicular Vernacular: The Mid-Century Airstream as a Case Study in Preservation, Nostalgia and Subculture Formation / Mid-Century Airstream as a Case Study in Preservation, Nostalgia and Subculture Formation

Bezirdjian, Melina Carla 03 1900 (has links)
xiii, 119 p. : ill. (some col.) / Airstream brand travel trailers from the 1950s and 60s have developed a subculture dedicated to their preservation and use. This subculture serves as a case study for how nostalgia, defined in a postmodern context, may promote preservation and creative communion with the past. After examining criticisms of preservation’s focus on material integrity, the discussion focuses on the need to factor user-based relationships into historic preservation. A postmodern reexamination of nostalgia defines it not merely as a longing for the past but also as a form of social critique which seeks to mitigate modernity with the past. Mid-century Airstream preservation reflects a desire to revive specific, positive values of the past in order to ameliorate the future and form temporal continuity. For the mid-century Airstream subculture, nostalgia fosters both restoration and recreation, allowing for an iconic emblem of the past to function in the present rather than fade into obsolescence. / Committee in charge: Dr. Leland Roth, Chairperson; Elizabeth Carter, Member

Art of anticipation : the artistic status of the film trailer and its place in a wider cinematic culture

Hesford, Daniel William January 2013 (has links)
Close association with, and proximity to, a culture of commercialism means film trailers are often overlooked in academic analyses of cinema. Trailers are, for many audiences, simply adverts: disposable, consumable and not 'worthy' of the critical attention paid to the their feature-length antecedents. Yet trailers' undeniable impact on spectators generates a spectrum of reactions which contradicts the often dismissive and negative reception with which they are met. Trailers receive intense popular and critical scrutiny and are constantly compared to the films they represent. Despite negative associations with commercialism and advertising culture, trailers are archived, exhibited and produced and discussed in contexts very similar to film and seem to share more than just a receptive connection. This thesis explores the artistic qualities of the trailer and examines its position as part of a wider cinematic culture. I will demonstrate the trailer's artistic status by arguing for a redefinition of the field of film studies and examining the trailer through a number existing theoretical discourses, including auteur-theory and Deleuze's ideas for the Movement and Time Image. My study will focus on Hollywood film trailers from a number of eras and cover an extensive body of case studies. Each era will be used demonstrate that trailers are artistic texts and members of a cinematic - as opposed to advertisement - culture. The first era focuses on the trailers of Alfred Hitchcock, which exhibit the early signs of innovation and artistic expression in a format still viewed overwhelmingly as an advertising context. Hitchcock himself intervenes in his trailers as an auteur - producing memorable and undeniably cinematic film texts. Hitchcock’s trailers are spaces in which Deleuzean film theory is eminently visible and the trailers discussed offer the opportunity for greater understanding of Gilles Deleuze’s work. Following Hitchcock, the ‘blockbuster’ era covers high-budget, highly commercial films from the seventies and eighties. Blockbuster trailers see strong codification of convention and style - and a re-presentation of the affect as a unit of commercial and artistic value. Martine Beugnet’s Cinema of Sensation is embodied in this group, in examples which fuse the artistic and commercial aspects of trailer identity. The final chapter examines the ‘postmodern’ trailer. In this era, the trailer moves beyond its commercial origins to the point they are often no longer applicable. Examples include 'spoof' trailers with no feature film antecedent and no detectable commercial intent. Postmodern trailers, I will argue, can be pure artistic expressions - and even work in reverse, generating commercial interest after the original instance of artistic exhibition.

Hur trailermusik påverkar förväntningarna på ett spel : Effekterna och konsekvenserna av instrumentation i en spel-trailer / How trailer music affects the expectations of a game : The effects and consequences of the music choice in a game trailer

Wiesand, Arvid January 2017 (has links)

Utveckling av takräcken för släpvagnar / Development of roof racks for trailers

Andersson, Johan, Karlsson, Victor January 2012 (has links)
This report is a bachelor thesis work in the field of product development and design. The assignment has been to develop a solution for roof racks, normally used for cars, to fit on the open trailer models FS1425 and Alugance. The project was implemented by Johan Andersson and Victor Karlsson, students at the Mechanical Engineering program with a focus on product development and design at Jönköping’s school of Engineering, in spring 2012. The client wants to use transport solutions in the same way as roof racks on cars. The user of such a product is assumed to desire simplicity, safety and an attractive design with an appealing price, which has been a challenge during the thesis work. Pre-studies have been conducted to examine the potential competitors and gain knowledge in the research area. Concepts have been generated by the method of brainstorming and evaluated and screened by the method Go/No-Go and Pugh’s decision matrix. In modeling the concepts, the CAD program Solid Works is used. The work resulted in one solution for FS1425 and one for Alugance where both solutions are based on a standard approach/kit. Each kit consists of a rubber component and two plates that produce a clamping force to the trailer profile using two screws. Concepts prototypes have been made by modifying the current plates and 3D printing. For further development of the concepts, the focus should be on production optimization and testing of functional prototypes.

Loading the Problem Loader: The Effects of Target Training and Shaping on Trailer Loading Behavior of Horses in a Natural Setting

Ferguson, Dawnery 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to develop an effective method for trailer loading horses based on the principles of positive reinforcement. Target training and shaping were used to teach trailer loading behavior in a natural setting. Five AQHA mares were selected for this program. All five had been loaded before through the use of punishment. A two-horse trailer was used. Approximations to loading and inappropriate behaviors were the dependent variables. When intervention started the target was moved to various locations inside the trailer. Subjects started training on the left side of the trailer. After a subject was loading in the left side they were moved to the right side, then to loading half on the right and half on the left, then they were loaded by a different trainer, and into a different trailer. For one subject a limited hold was utilized, as well as a companion horse.

Understanding the role of recreational vehicles and park model trailers as an alternative housing option and the barriers to their use

Russell, Blaine Christopher 18 January 2007 (has links)
This practicum investigates the use of recreational vehicles and park model trailers within the east central Vancouver Island area with the objective of developing an understanding of their use as an alternative affordable housing option. As part of this research, and in order to provide a base reference point for a later analysis within the study, a review of literature on the topics of homelessness, evolution of the travel trailer, mobile home policy, living in an RV on the street, living in an RV park, and the emergency use of travel trailers was conducted. In addition, this research includes a review of Provincial regulations such as the BC Building Code, Residential Tenancy Policy Guideline how they relate to the use of RV and park model trailers. As well, this study includes a review and analysis of the zoning bylaw of various local governments on Vancouver Island with respect to the use and classification of RV and park model trailers. This practicum forms a case study of local government officials, campground operators and recreational vehicle dwellers on the use of RVs and park model trailers within the study area.
