1	Transformation Of Architectural Space With The Aid Of Artistic Production Ozden, Basak 01 July 2011 (has links) (PDF) The goal of this thesis is to study the transformation of architectural space with the aid of artistic production. By questioning architectural production as a non-static process open to alteration and intervention, this condition is claimed to enlarge the frontiers of architecture in terms of interdisciplinary contributions and new design methods. Inspired by the course ARCH 524, conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aysen Savas in the METU Department of Architecture, this study aims to understand the possible ways of transforming architectural space by the defined function of exhibition. The condition of exhibiting is claimed to manifest a &ldquo / temporary&rdquo / and reciprocal relation between the architectural space and the artwork / therefore, it redefines architectural space as a temporary entity open to intervention.For this reason, &ldquo / site-specific artwork&rdquo / is believed to play a pragmatic role in the creation of the &ldquo / new space&rdquo / . This study will focus on the selected works of the artist Esther Stocker. Stocker&rsquo / s productions offer systematic and analytic (re)readings that analyze and decipher spatial qualities. Her productionsare claimed to shift the conventional definitions of architectural terminology and introduce physical, visual and cultural/social levels of understanding both for the built, and the yet-to-be-built space. Throughout this study, the transformation process is commonly referred to as (re)construction, and/or (re)definition, which will, at the end of the process, generate a &ldquo / new space&rdquo / open to continuous transformation. 2	Expanding Architecture / A Proposal For A Multi Turgutoslu, Burak 01 January 2003 (has links) (PDF) Standardization, flexibility and transparency had been the eminent keywords of Modern Architecture that have also provided material for the re-interpretation and re-production of several discussions on concepts like &lsquo / form&rsquo / and &lsquo / function&rsquo / in architecture. This study is an inquiry into a number of different interpretations that scrutinize the intricate relationship between architectural form and function in the 20th century with respect to the concepts defined above. The conceptualization of this thesis will be based on the assumption that function is an inadequate and weak concept for the generation of architectural form. It is in this context that form is accepted as an architectural &ldquo / fragment&rdquo / that attains its autonomy not from the strictures imposed by other architectural fragment like &lsquo / function&rsquo / , &lsquo / structure&rsquo / , &lsquo / program&rsquo / and &lsquo / site / but from an infinite number of internal relationships or &lsquo / design tools&rsquo / as we call. The aim of this study is to propose a project for &ldquo / A Multi &ndash / Functional Hall at METU&rdquo / which has the capability of expanding its limits in future, both physically and conceptually / and investigate the &lsquo / design tools&rsquo / that will direct the steps of transformations in the process of architectural production. Within this framework, the investigation is concerned with the production of a flexible, unstable and indeterminant building, focused on the concepts of &lsquo / transformation of space&rsquo / and &lsquo / constant change&rsquo / , that could be re-designed and re-generated in respect to possible future transformations in the program. Thus, architectural production is defined merely as a &lsquo / step&rsquo / or a &lsquo / snap-shot&rsquo / , controlled by the design tools suggesting the solutions for an ever-lasting transformation as the conditions change.

Much research has been done to understand the impact of air pollution in urban societies and much more needs to be done in order to understand the implications of air quality impact on the region. Social structures in terms of environmental based planning for good air quality should focus on economic social costs need for new technologies and attainable health costs. Society can't survive without a healthy environment therefore understanding air quality and how new structures evolve for a practical human environmental interaction, is an absolute necessity for the well being and growth of Örebro region. The paper therefore, is an investigation into air quality impact on the existing structures in Örebro with air pollution as the major subject. It is based on critical evaluation of air pollution as derivative of a symbiotic human interaction with her environment and how contemporary planning structures should be attained. The planning of where, when and how to get there. Expectations of what to come, before, during and after. In my thesis I turn to the notions we encounter when experiencing space. Through the bodies movement we shift our perspectives, leaning our eyes on surroundings of change, we mediate what is perceived. Telling us the story of where we have been and where we are heading to. The fragile surface of the lace cloth covering the sunlight shine in my grandmothers kitchen window had to me an unfamiliar texture and its yellowing white colour brought a time from another generation. Drinking weak silver tea and sitting next to this curtain formed a tactile memory of constant. I don´t remember any other details from those days, other than the taste of the tea and the atmosphere created by the lace. When, during a journey in unknown lands several years after, I again saw this lace covering a window I remembered not the situation nor the tea but a sort of comfort. A memory of carrying both my past and present. The memory of space is created both in the past and the present but also when we leave, as we remember and recall it. How do we interpret what is a part of our past, present and future? And where is the real/unreal memory of space created? To investigate these notions I placed my self in a sort of somewhere!
