Evaluation of texture features for analysis of ovarian follicular development

Bian, Na 02 December 2005 (has links)
Ovarian follicles in women are fluid-filled structures in the ovary that contain oocytes (eggs). A dominant follicle is physiologically selected and ovulates during the menstrual cycle. We examined the echotexture in ultrasonographic images of the follicle wall of dominant ovulatory follicles in women during natural menstrual cycles and dominant anovulatory follicles which developed in women using oral contraceptives (OC). Texture features of follicle wall regions of both ovulatory and anovulatory dominant follicles were evaluated over a period of seven days before ovulation (natural cycles) or peak estradiol concentrations (OC cycles). Differences in echotexture between the two classes of follicles were found for two co-occurrence matrix derived texture features and two edge-frequency based texture features. Co-occurrence energy and homogeneity were significantly lower for ovulatory follicles while edge density and edge contrast were higher for ovulatory follicles. In the each feature space, the two classes of follicle were adequately separable.

This thesis employed several statistical approaches to analyses of texture features, such as plotting method and the Mann-Kendall method. A distinct change of feature trend was detected 3 or 4 days before the day of ovulation for ovulatory follicles in the two co-occurrence matrix derived texture features and two edge-frequency-based texture features. Anovulatory follicles, exhibited the biggest variation of the feature value 3 or 4 days before the day on which dominant follicles developed to maximum size. This discovery is believed to correspond to the ovarian follicles responding to system hormonal changes leading to presumptive ovulation.

Varumärkesetablering : med en trend som hävstång

Larsson, Pontus, Svensson, Erik January 2009 (has links)
The aim of our thesis is to study and analyze the components and features a brand should have to provide a solid foundation for brand building. Furthermore, we show how brands can make use of trends in a brand establishment. This paper is written from a qualitative approach. Through both structured and semi structured interviews, we obtained valuable information from our respondents. Our frame of reference and empirical foundation are linked together through an abductive approach which has resulted in our analysis and conclusions. A trend brings with a set of emotional characteristics, which companies can’t influence but must adapt to. This means that brands can take advantage of the force created by a trend in the form of a lever, if the companies adapt their businesses into what the trend represents. This leads to a decreased distance between the brand and the customer, due to that the emotional characteristics conveyed by the brand are already held by the customer. The company does not need to teach the customer about the emotional values carried by the brand, and we then see a trend as a carrier of information that conveys knowledge to the customers. The critical moment in establishing a brand during a trend, is that the launch of the brand takes place at the right time. It can be devastating for companies investing a lot of time and money to adapt their brand to a trend if the establishment takes place too late. This might result in a high competition where companies can experience difficulties in taking market shares.

Talangjakt 2008 : En studie av rekryteringsbranschen

Andersson, Jeanette, Lindquist, Johan, Trobro, Hanna January 2008 (has links)

A Market Trend-Based Multi-Factor Alpha Model¡X with Application in Taiwan Market

Wang, Shao-yu 04 July 2011 (has links)
While quantitative investment management has been extensively investigated and many models built in order to provide investment suggestions through quantitative analysis, the combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis is relatively unexplored. The objective of this study is to construct a quantitative stock selection model based on the standard model built by Hsu et al. (2011) which could improve the stability of descriptor and factor structures and the combinability of quantitative and qualitative analysis. The research focuses on the structure of effective factors and descriptors when faced with different types of market trends. Furthermore, we test the performance of a Market Trend-Based Alpha Model (MTB alpha model) and compare with the standard alpha model. The strategy of portfolio construction is a TAIEX enhanced index fund. We find the enhanced index portfolio constructed by the MTB model produces an information ratio of 0.72, which is much higher than the standard model ratio of 0.41. This finding suggests that a MTB model could not only improve performance but also make the descriptor and factor structures more stable and much more easily for managers¡¦ adjusting.

The Construction of Multi-Factor Alpha Model Platform with Application in Taiwan

Lin, Tsung-Han 05 July 2011 (has links)
The objective of this study is to build the platform, and the user can choose one model of the three models (1) base multi-factor alpha model (2) sector-specific alpha model (3) market trend-based multi-factor alpha model. The user can choose one target index of the four indexes (1) Electronic (2) Finance (3) Non-Finance Non-Electronics (4) TAIEX. The platform also combined the score of sector-specific model and market model, which we called hybrid model. The platform provides (1) elasticity of equity management (2) completeness of investment strategy (3) inclusiveness of alpha models and target indexes. The user can select a suit model and allocate the model and the target index, and quickly back-testing and evaluate performance. The contributions of this study are that help asset management companies quickly design investment strategies and back-testing, or product many different equity portfolio funds, and evaluate performance for stabled performance.

The study of recruiting strategy of private college under the trend of de-populization¡Xa case study of Kaomei college of health care and management

Chu, Yan-Chang 15 August 2011 (has links)
Abstract Education in Taiwan today face the most serious problem is that rapid fertility decline. The population is concentrated to the metropolitan area, relocation of villages and towns of the young population. Aging seriously dropped the number of students in remote areas, while the tertiary institutions have increased rapidly. Therefore, the private colleges will face the dilemma of low enrollment, the education market today liberalization in recent years, the number of additional colleges and universities nearly saturated, from the 1986-2008 school year, the number of colleges and universities has reached 162. School for the sake of sustainable development, to avoid being out of the market must change the current mode of operation. Private colleges and universities must master their own unique advantages, improve teaching quality, and to make appropriate use of marketing strategies to cope with enroll and enroll management insufficient predicament. The purpose of this study, that is the object from the private post-secondary school students (graduates close to 300-500 in the name of the country) questionnaire data and other high homogeneity of Nursing (1-2 home) Admission strategy, for the respondents By using quantitative analysis of questionnaire data, this research through quantitative survey data collected in the synchronization of the views of students and graduates around the country in about the views of school choice to students in-depth understanding of the key decision factors, to find private post-secondary school Admission policies should be Note that matters.

Global Research Trends of Long Term Care¡GA Bibliometric Study

Phay, Kee-Wong 25 August 2011 (has links)
An effective bibliometric analysis based on Science Citation Index (SCI) and Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) published by the Institute of Scientific Information (ISI) was carried out to identify the long-term care research between 1991 and 2008. The objective was to conduct a quantitative and qualitative analysis for global trends of long-term care related research. The characteristics related to publications were analyzed. Apparently more and more authors, institutes, and countries engaged in the research over the 18 years. The USA produced the most single country articles and international collaborative articles, followed by Canada and UK. Synthetically analyzing the distribution of paper title, author keyword and keyword plus, it could be concluded that application of long-term care mainly focused on five branches. There are gerontology, psychiatry, health care science, nursing and epidemiology.

Pattern Recognition of Technical Analysis Indicators

Chen, Chia-jung 23 September 2011 (has links)
In recent years technical analysis has been used more and more frequently. The original concept of technical analysis is built on history will be continue to repeat itself. Therefore, analysts and investors could predict the market price by observing the historical data. The idea of pattern recognition technology comes from face recognition systems. In the system, the analyst captures the facial features from the entrant and then quantifies the features as codes. Through the process of recognition, the analyst can confirm the identity of the entrant. Pattern recognition applies the idea to extract information encoded in the stock market characteristics and recognize the market with historical data. In the application, pattern recognition can be regarded as a pre-operation of the technical analysis. Users analyze the current information through pattern recognition and can further build the strategy. This model has 19 codes captured from two dimensions; the first is price, and the second is the trend of ups and downs. The empirical results for the decade in the weekly frequency trading strategy are an annual return of 31.57% and annual risk of 26.66%. After the deduction of trading fees, the strategy has an annual return of 14.94% and annual risk of 26.72%.

Analysis and simulation of temporal and spatial variations of suspended particulates in the urban area, Kaohsiung

Huang, Yao-Tien 12 June 2005 (has links)
ABSTRACT Although the fractions of station-days that the Pollutant Standard Index (PSI) exceed 100 (also referring to the episodes) in Kaohsiung City showed a decline trend from about 10.3% in 1995 to about 5.5% in 2002, the percentage of particulate PM10 events showed a increase trend: from 1.0 % in 2002 to 2.9 % in 2004. This study first statistically summarized the trends of PM10 concentrations using box plots for four air-quality monitoring stations in Kaohsiung during the period of 1997 to 2004, together with the t-test and F-test. The Comprehensive Air Quality Model with extensions (CAMx model) was then applied to analyze the source and the cause of the PM10 events. The monthly averages of PM10 concentrations at four air-quality monitoring stations were 72.9 ¡V 81.7 £gg/m3 during the period of 1997 to 2004, highest at Hsiung-Kong and lowest at Nan-Chie. The long-term trend analyses show slightly decline results for yearly-averaged PM10 concentrations (1.05% at Nan-Chie, 1.38% at Tzuo-Yin, 1.51% at Chien-Chin, and 1.91% at Hsiung-Kong). During 1997 to 2004, the PM10 episodes occurred most frequently, while the numbers of PM10 episodes decreased from south to north (i.e., Hsiung-Kong > Chien-Chin > Tzuo-Yin > Nan-Chie). The statistical tests using t-test for the mean and F-test for the variance with 95% confidence level show that the probability that the hourly PM10 concentrations differ insignificantly among the four stations is only about 42%. That is, the spatial difference of pollutant concentrations among four air-quality monitoring stations is rather significant in Kaohsiung. The CAMx simulations show that contributions to ambient PM10 from stationary source is about 38.9% (NOx: 24.7%; SO2: 14.2%), 8.8% from mobile source (NOx: 7.4%; SO2: 1.4%), and 0.9% from fugitive emissions (SO2: 0.9%) in Kaohsiung. The contributions to ambient PM10 from the emissions in Kaohsiung Harbor are about 3.5%. Keywords: Particulate matter, Trend analysis, Statistical test, CAMx model.
