Determinação do módulo de resiliência através de ensaios triaxiais dinâmicos e a sua estimativa a partir de ensaios de compressão simples: estudo de três solos do nordeste brasileiro / Determination of resilient modulus using repeated load triaxial tests and its prediction from compressive strength tests: a study of three northeastern Brazilian soils

Flávio José Craveiro Cunto 26 May 1998 (has links)
Resilient modulus is a crucial parameter in mechanistic analysis involving the estimation of stress and strains under the pavement structure subjected to traffic loading. While field tests can be used to determine the dynamic behavior of soils, most researches favor laboratory tests. Such preference is based on the fact that laboratory tests are less constrained because of their carefully controlled conditions. Unfortunately these tests are still unusual due to relative complex equipment, therefore researches involving the correlation of resilient modulus from repeated load triaxial tests with other test results is needed. In this work, repeated load triaxial tests were performed on three soils used in northeastern Brazilian roadways to estimate the resilient modulus. The performance of the models most commonly adopted to represent resilient modulus as a function of state of stress were verified. lt was observed for the three soils in this research, that confining stress and principal major stress influenced resilient moduli values. Predictive equations correlating the resilient modulus from repeated load triaxial tests and parameters from compressive strength tests, considering different states of stress were investigated. lt was shown that this type of empirical correlation presented satisfactory results, although incisive conclusions can\'t be drawn without a wider number and variety of soils.

Necessary information about soil properties, which is needed for designers and constructors, is obtained in each construction site while examining physical and mechanical properties of soils. Soil strength parameters and using them determined soil bearing resistance usually are defined with some errors. If we know the reasons of errors, disadvantages of testing equipment could be eliminated, methodology of data evaluation could be developed, soil parameters could be determined more precisely and foundation designed more economically. Structures en béton soumises à des chargements mécaniques extrêmes : modélisation de la réponse locale par la méthode des éléments discrets / Concrete Structures submitted to extreme loadings : modeling of the local response by the discrete element method.

Tran, Van Tieng 12 July 2011 (has links)
This thesis work deals with the predicting of concrete structures submitted to some extreme loadings, and, more particularly, focuses on behavior of concrete under a high-confining pressure. At this range of pressures, irreversible compaction of the material occurs and needs to be considered. Doing so, two elasto-plastic-damaged constitutive laws have been developed and implanted into a discrete element numerical code. Local parameters to be used in these constitutive laws are identified by simulating reference uniaxial traction/compression tests and triaxial compression tests. Once these parameters have been obtained, the law showing the best agreement with the experimental data has been chosen to predict the reponse of concrete sample for triaxial compressive tests at different levels of confinement. The numerical results have been analyzed not only at macroscopic scale but also at discrete element scale. The need of a constitutive law taking into account the elasto-plastic-damaged behavior has been also proved. The second objective of the thesis work was to develop a fluid flow – coupled discrete element model by considering fundamental physical mechanisms of the interaction between the internal fluide flow and the solid particles of a porous material. The flow problem is solved by the finite volume method, where the volume is discretized into tetrahedra issue of a regular Delaunay triangulation. Our model is an adaptation for elastic fluids of a model originally developed for incompressible flows. The developed fluid-flow coupled discrete element has been used to simulate the undrained triaxial behavior of concrete under different levels of confinement. The results show a good reproduction of undrained behavior of saturated concrete under low confinement. For high confinement, the simulations only resemble the experimental results when the fluid compressibility is lower than that of water. Moreover, the effective stress was a relevant variable to describe the behavior of the wet concrete by an intrinsic limit state independent of the degree of saturation.

Estudo do comportamento resiliente dos solos tropicais grossos do interior do Estado de São Paulo / Study of resilient behavior of tropical sandy soils from interior of Sao Paulo state

Helio Marcos Fernandes Viana 07 December 2007 (has links)
The resilient modulus is an essential mechanical property for stress-strain analysis of pavements. The main test to evaluate resilient modulus of soils is cyclic triaxial test which there is a better control not only of samples but also of loads and displacements. Nowadays, the utilization of relationships to obtain resilient modulus from soils properties, from routine simple tests, is allowed by procedure NCHRP 1-37A, and that can be useful in initial design in construction of roads, as the resilient modulus of material pits and subgrades, places along several alternative traces of design, can be evaluated very fast by relationships. However, the existing relationships are restrictive, because they do not consider tropical soils of lateritic and non-lateritic behavior from MCT (Miniatura Compactado Tropical) classification and they have low performance. Artificial neural networks (ANNs) have shown high success to establish relationships from answering variables and explicative variables, so in this work was developed ANNs to establish relationships from resilient modulus and soil properties, not only for sandy soils in Proctor\'s modified compaction energy but also for soils in Proctor\'s standard compaction energy. The data base used in this work was laboratory test results from seventy-six soils which were collected in interior of Sao Paulo state. Finally, for tropical soils of lateritic and non-lateritic behavior, it was verified that ANNs can forecast, with high performance, resilient modulus from soil properties just as: grain size composition, liquid limit (LL), plasticity index (PI), optimum moisture content and results of simple strength compressive test.

Estudo da influência da variação do teor de umidade no valor do módulo de resiliência de um solo argiloso encontrado em subleito de rodovias no interior paulista / Study of the influence of moisture content in resilient modulus value of a clay found in pavement subgrade in state of São Paulo

Ricardo Freire Gonçalves 28 June 1999 (has links)
The aim of this work is to evaluate the influence of moisture content variation in resilient modulus value (MR) of a subgrade clayey soil, considering that this parameter is very susceptible to environmental climatic variations. Cyclic triaxial tests were performed to acess resilient modulus of specimens tested in several moisture conditions. lt has been verified that MR is influenced by deviator stress, so that the former increases with the latter increases. lt has been confirmed that specimens molded in Wot and submited to a drying and moistening route reached MR values higher and lower, respectively, to compare with MR of specimens tested in Wot. This fact was also observed for the specimens molded with dry density, in moisture contents below and above of optimum moisture content. lt has been also determined the soil suction using filter paper method and it has been built its characteristic curve. lt has been verified that when moisture increases, the suction decreases. lt has been observed that MR value increases with the soil suction increase. This increase is as bigger as bigger the applied deviator stress be. lt was possible to determine the relationship between MR, deviator stress and parameters from compressive strength tests. lt has been related parameters from compressive strength tests and soil suction.

Análise e modelagem do comportamento colapsível de um solo arenoso / Analysis and modeling of the collapse behavior of a sandy soil

Guilherme Izidório Davies 31 July 2000 (has links)
There are many researches that evaluate and discuss the factors which interfere in the collapse of soils. However, not many have been published regarding the influence of the cycles of wetting in the collapsible behavior of the soil, and neither have collapse strains under triaxial load. The present work deals with the collapse behavior of a sandy soil, typical from the center-west of the State of São Paulo, considering the aforesaid aspects and using conventional oedometer, suction controlled oedometer and triaxial compression tests. In conventional oedometer tests, the influence of overburden stress on the induced wetting on collapse strains was characterized. Collapse strains were also measured in triaxial compression tests, varying the ratio of principal stress (&#9631/&#9633) when the samples are inundated. It was observed that collapse volumetric strains are dependent on confining stress and on &#9631/&#9633, and that, axial and radial strains are related to the ratio of &#9631/&#9633. The axial collapse strains observed in triaxial compression tests were shown to be lower than the ones measured in conventional oedometer tests. In controlled suction tests, the amount of collapse strains under gradual suction reduction was studied including the influence of suction reversals. It was noted that the initial suction influences the amount of collapse strains, and that, in the cycles of wetting and drying, the strains after the second cycle tended to be negligible. Experimental results from suction controlled oedometer tests were modeled through the model by ALONSO et. al. (1990) and by the adaptations to this model proposed by FUTAI (1997) and MACHADO (1998).

Comportement mécanique des sols granulaires et critères de stabilité : application à l’érosion interne / Mechanical behavior of granular soils and internal stability criteria : application to internal erosion

Abdoulaye Hama, Nadjibou 20 January 2016 (has links)
The objective of this thesis is to understand the phenomenon of suffusion (internal erosion) in its process and its effects on the mechanical behavior of loose soil by establishing a direct or indirect relationship between the internal stability of these materials and failure criterion. Numerical modeling and experimental tests analyzed the internal erosion in terms of the suffusion. The main tests used are : - Water flows through a granular material in a column. - Undrained shear triaxial tests. For numerical modeling, PFC3D was used for simulations of triaxial tests and the treatment of solid fluid coupling was possible through a CFD type of option (Coupling Fluid Dynamics). This DEM code has allowed the development of a new method of generating granular sample from its grading curve and its target porosity. The evolutions of porosity, grading curves and the state of internal stability before and after discharge were identified as indicator of suffusion. Kenney & Lau and Kezdi stability criteria were used to assess the internal stability of samples. The consequences of suffusion were expressed by: A reduction of the internal friction angle in the case of an internal suffusion; an increase of the friction angle in the case of an external suffusion. Comparisons of experimental and numerical results for both flows and triaxial tests have shown good agreements. Finally, a proposal of a new criterion of internal stability is established, it is deducted from the analysis of the relationship between the mechanical behavior and internal stability, including the material contractance.

Sledování modulů pružnosti podloží vozovek / Monitoring of the modulus of elasticity of the pavement subgrade

Hladík, Aleš January 2013 (has links)
This thesis deals with compares the procedures carried out in the cyclical load triaxial testing device according to CSN EN 13286-7, and the procedures performed in the United States of America. In the practical part elasticity moduls of mixed recycled material are experimentally compared with mixed recycled material containing binder(connective material) and with fine-grained soil in the cyclical load triaxial testing device. Further the thesis assesses the use of mixed recycled material in the construction of a third class low-load pavement.
