A Guide for the Performance of Trumpet Mariachi Music in Schools

Bennett, James G., fl. 1979- 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to provide a guide for the instruction of a trumpet mariachi performance ensemble in a music curriculum. The fulfillment of this purpose is dependent upon the data supplied in answer to the sub problems: (1) What socio-cultural information provides authentic trumpet mariachi music; (2) What trumpet mariachi literature illustrates the repertoire and style; (3) What instructional source materials may be developed such that Mexican American and non-Mexican American instructors build a competency in repertoire and style; (4) How could this guide be evaluated in its functional design for a music curriculum? The data collected for use in this study has been presented in three major categories: (1) the history and milieu in which the trumpet, mariachi crystalized; (2) the repertoire--its history and function in Mexican society and the transcriptions of types demonstrating the musical structure; and (3) the technical information relative to the instruction of the particular mariachi instruments. An evaluative instrument has been supplied in an attempt to establish the validity of the information and examples provided in this practicum. The validity of the research seems to rest on its authenticity and its serviceability. The findings of this study are stated as assertions based on the literature in general and the repertorial types specifically included. These assertions are aligned with the organization of the data as it has been reported in the body of the dissertation. The conclusions are stated in a similar manner as assertions pertinent to cross referenced statements which may be implied as concepts drawn from the reported data and the literature observed in this study.

Quais as semelhanças e diferenças encontradas? A metodologia constou do estudo das peças e das técnicas de análise, e da aplicação das análises. Ao final, procura-se comparar e investigar as ligações possíveis entre elas. Entre os resultados esperados, conta-se contribuir para o conhecimento através da musicologia brasileira e divulgar a música de câmara para trompete criada no Brasil no século XX / Abstract: The main goals of this paper are: to demonstrate a musical analysis study; to find out the structure, the material, the pitches, the rhythms, the textures and the timbres, observing the composition techniques related to the trumpet chamber music repertoire written in the 20th century. The composition that will be studied are: MAHLE, E. Concertino para trompete e cordas. Piracicaba: School of music, 1976; and KAPLAN, J. A. Sonata para trompete e piano. João Pessoa: manuscript, 1987. It also demonstrates the differences and similarities of the composition techniques in the chosen pieces. In order to accomplish this major task, it will begin from these following questions: How does a composer think the 20th century Brazilian trumpet chamber music? Which are the works¿ structural elements? Which are the differences and the similarities found? The methodology consisted in the study of the pieces and of the analyses technique; and the application of the analyses. Finally, it seeks to investigate and compare the possible connections between them. There also is the assumption of the contribution of this assignment for the Brazilian musicology and to disclose the 20th century Brazilian trumpet chamber music / Mestrado / Musica / Mestre em Música

An analytical look at trumpet solo works by Eugène Bozza, Vincent Persichetti, Halsey Stevens, Alexander Arutunian, Eric Ewazen, and Ernest Bloch

Caldwell, Deborah January 1900 (has links)
Master of Music / Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance / Gary C. Mortenson / This report is an analysis and exploration of the following works: Eugène Bozza’s Caprice, Vincent Persichetti’s The Hollow Men, Halsey Stevens’s Sonata for Trumpet and Piano, Alexander Arutunian’s Concerto for Trumpet, Ernest Bloch’s Proclamation, and Eric Ewazen’s Grand Valley Fanfare. The purpose of this report is to aid performance preparation of these pieces by providing thematic and formal analysis as well as identifying general unifying elements for each piece. Once identified, these patterns will help the performer communicate the broad musical ideas to the audience by finding a balance between the technical aspects and musical statements in each work.
