An Empirical Investigation of Trying and Trust toward Mobile Banking Adoption: A Crosscultural Analysis of Chinese and United States Users

Luo, Xin 05 May 2007 (has links)
In the era of e-commerce and m-commerce, money has become bits of data stored on computers and moves around the world as bytes of information on data communication networks. Mobile and wireless is rapidly changing the way personal financial services are designed and delivered. Mobile banking is one of the new access methods for banking services via new delivery channels consisting of the Internet and mobile technologies. Innovative technologies have changed the nature of selling and buying financial services in the new electronic banking paradigm. Customers are increasingly given the option to provide services for themselves via electronic delivery channels. As technology has become increasingly a more vital element of service delivery, managerial interest in understanding the adoption processes, preferences, and needs of different customers have led to calls for more academic research. Due to the newness of the mobile banking services, customer behavior in the mobile banking context has remained a rather uncharted territory. Literature suggests that previous adoption models which view technology use as a behavior completely under volitional control are limited in the sense that they do not specifically address the possibility that people may try to undertake the learning activities and experience the outcomes necessary to use a technology. This study will evaluate a global view of users? acceptance of mobile banking between Asian and Western market to better understand the users? behavioral pattern in different cultural settings. Based on such theoretical underpinnings as The Theory of Trying, UTAUT, Trust, Self-Efficacy and Cross-cultural Dimensions, this research tends to grasp a comprehensive view of mobile banking adoption, based on both perspectives of volitional and non-volitional such as trying. Results of this research may help practitioners of mobile banking services, such as information systems designers and marketing and management executives, to more efficiently design, implement, and promote mobile banking services. Also, identifications of the factors and causal relationships that influence and describe the end user?s adoption toward mobile banking service help focus m-commerce research on questions that significantly impact the development of mobile banking and m-commerce as a whole.

"I Fabians värld" – en reklamkampanjs dubbla effekt : Om storytelling som ledarskapsverktyg under påfrestande perioder

Proni, Antigona, Abbas, Najat January 2012 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to describe how the storytelling of SIBA AB affects the employees. The paper works on the supposition that storytelling is a leadership tool and hence examines how the employees are affected by the leader Fabian Bengtsson’s leadership during difficult times on the market. Research questions: How can a leader influence the employees’ attitudes towards the company during times of pressure on the market? How can storytelling work as a leadership tool in this case to higher the employees’ involvement for an interest in the company? Research method: The case study on SIBA AB is based on quantitative and qualitative methods plus a narrative analysis of the advertising campaign ”I Fabians värld”. The material was collected through a survey including 75 employees and a written interview with Fabian Bengtsson, plus a narrative analysis of five commercials. Conclusions: The analysis shows that storytelling in the advertising campaign has had a positive influence on the employees and has shaped a picture of the leader and of his leadership. The analysis also shows that leaders have the possibility to affect the employees’ attitudes and interest in the company. The reason for this is that commercials have the power to create identification and sense of belonging that can form positive feelings and a good impression of the company which can lead to an increased commitment among the employees.

“An Indescribable Sound” in William Faulkner’s The Sound and the Fury

Ramsey, Lynn 16 April 2010 (has links)
The Sound and the Fury is a noisy book. Through the audible, the barely audible, and the silence, William Faulkner supports his narrative design with sound beyond dialog to inform and inflect the destabilizing narrative voices. This essay explores Faulkner's use of the sound and noise of the novel as another narrative voice. Faulkner's rich use of sound as a recurring motif, almost a persona or narrator itself, functions not merely to animate the action, the characters, and the title; it also speaks in the "hush" and the freighted "stiffly sibilant" whispers of those who dare not speak, or are "trying to say," while simultaneously running as a voiceless current beneath the disjunctive narrative. The range and quality of sound wavers throughout, from the musical to the "indescribable," as the past and present repeatedly segue forward and back to this soundtrack. Like the otherworldly racket of Macbeth, the noise of the novel plays beneath the surface, begging to be heard. Much scholarship has been devoted to exploring Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury, yet the text continues to reveal layers of meaning and resonance to yet another generation. This study seeks to interrogate the nature, function, and musicality of the sound, noise, and silence of the text as adumbrated in the rhetoric of Reverend Shegog's Easter sermon, Luster's valiant attempts to play on the saw the "inaudible tune," the ubiquitous bells, and Dilsey's determination through it all to sing. This study hopes to enter into the conversation on Faulkner's enduring work by listening to what the text is "trying to say."

Fertility-Awareness Practices Among Women Seeking Pregnancy:

Pérez Capotosto, Melissa January 2021 (has links)
Thesis advisor: Corrine Y. Jurgens / Background: Infertility is a source of significant distress to women, their partners, and their families. If women are unable to identify the time in their cycle when conception is most likely (the fertile window) then they may be referred to fertility services unnecessarily, which incur costly, invasive, and risky interventions. Little is known about women’s experiences trying to conceive using fertility-awareness based methods. Objective: The purpose of this dissertation research is to examine fertility-awareness based method (FABMs) use among women seeking pregnancy, specifically as it relates to fertility knowledge, method frequency, predictors of use, and duration of pregnancy attempt. Methods: This manuscript-style dissertation will utilize multiple data sources and methods to address four major goals. First, an integrative review of peer-reviewed publications will synthesize the literature regarding fertility knowledge and fertility- awareness practices (Aim 1). Second, a secondary analysis of data from the CDC’s National Survey of Family Growth (2015-2017) will be used to identify factors that influence women’s decision to use FABMs (Aim 2). Third, an analysis of data from the Nurses’ Health Study 3 will be used to evaluate whether duration of current pregnancy attempt is associated with FABM(s) use (Aim 3). Lastly, a case study will be presented using the qualitative methodology of narrative interview to describe women’s experiences using FABMs to achieve pregnancy (Aim 4). Conclusions: Collectively, this work advances the science by providing researchers and clinicians with the knowledge to support women in their journey to natural, spontaneous conception. / Thesis (PhD) — Boston College, 2021. / Submitted to: Boston College. Charismen Entdecken: Eine praktisch-theologische Untersuchung in der Evangelischen Landeskirche in Baden / Discovering Chrismata : a practical theological inquiry in the United Lutheran Church of Baden

Baumert, Manfred Otto Willi 03 1900 (has links)
Summary and key words in German and English / Every church faces the challenge of procuring capable workers for the multifaceted task of ministry. For several decades now official denominational statements and the discipline of Practical Theology have been calling for a new understanding of giftedness in ecclesial service. As yet little fundamental research has been done in this area. This dissertation seeks to make a contribution both empirically and theologically. It marks the first time in the German–speaking world of Practical Theology that the issue of how one discovers charisms is addressed academically. The specific field of research is located in the Protestant Regional Church of Baden in southwest Germany. Nevertheless the findings can be applied more broadly since the research is based on thorough exegetical and systematic–theological analysis and has been verified empirically. There has been a quest for the charisms of the Spirit since the beginning of the twentieth century and even more so now in the face of the societal challenges of postmodernity. In the discussion of the different theological positionens arise as result that charisms have to be seen with an triune approach. In addtion, besindes the fact that charisms have a habitual meaning, they first of all have a relational dimension. The empirical research involved online–interviewings of pastors, plus interviews of church members. One of the major findings was that the views of pastors on how church members receive gifts is determined by their theological understanding of the charisms. Pastors discover gifts, not according to Pauline criteria, but largely according to emotional aspects, as proved by this research. It became apparent that protestant pastors are of the opinion that New Testament charisms are not first received at baptism, but already at birth. Another interesting finding is that members of both protestant main stream churches and pentacostal-charismatic churches hold the same believes about how to receive charisms. The only difference is their repertoire of gifts. This dissertation focuses on developing guidelines for the discovery of charisms within the congregation as the local body of the Church. / Practical Theology / Thesis (D. Th. (Practical Theology))
