Gravidez não planejada: a experiência das gestantes de um município do interior do estado de São Paulo / Unplanned pregnancy: the experience of the women in a municipality in the state of São Paulo

Sanches, Natália Canella 02 December 2013 (has links)
Pregnancy can cause many feelings, such as: the surprise, the punishment, the premium, the motivation to continue living, the realization of an old design, the competition in the family, the problem of the hindrance, to carelessness or irresponsibility. Confirmed pregnancy, the woman, her partner and family members may experience different reactions to this news. The initial reaction depends on the planning and desire of pregnancy (gestation), and may be desired, planned or accidental, unplanned and even unwanted. Unplanned pregnancy is any pregnancy that was not planned by the couple, or at least the woman. Its occurrence has important impact on the provision of prenatal care, the guidance on breastfeeding, the nutritional status and rates of maternal and child morbidity and mortality. Although little studied, unplanned pregnancy is increased risk of anxiety and depression, especially in the postpartum period. Considering these aspects, the aim of this study was to understand how pregnant women experienced / experienced an unplanned pregnancy and its consequences for family life / marriage. The study was based on the methodology of qualitative data analysis, the analysis of these data, we used the methodological approach of the Collective Subject Discourse (CSD), using the software Atlas.ti. The study population consisted of pregnant women of childbearing age, between 18 and 49 years of age, because this age ensures age women. Was used to organize the verbal data, semi-structured interviews conducted with 11 pregnant women. Based on the testimonies of the women copied the software, discourse analysis began with the identification of key expressions, in which are contained the main ideas of a speech that was written briefly and objectively. It was shown that pregnant women had initial negative reactions regarding the discovery of unplanned pregnancy, experienced conflict due to fear of facing the family, spouse, and parents. It was also evident that unplanned pregnancy is mainly due to problematic levels biopsychosocial. Showed high levels of anxiety, stress and depression during pregnancy. As for contraception, the majority was in use when the discovery of the pregnancy. It is considered that this study becomes relevant for the impact it has on the well -being, family and socioeconomic status of women and their partners, because of possible unintended pregnancies

THE ROLE OF FAMILY PLANNING IN REDUCING MATERNAL MORTALITY IN BANGLADESH

AKHTER, FERDOUSI, none January 2008 (has links)
The main objective of the study is to analyze the role of family planning program in reducing maternal mortality in Bangladesh. A conceptual framework has been developed in which family planning is shown to be integrated in reducing maternal mortality. This study found that the risk factors of maternal mortality e.g. unwanted pregnancy, high parity, and early and old age at child birth still prevail in Bangladesh. It is hypothesized that the prevalence of these factors can be substantially reduced by a proper practice of family planning. There is a high level of unmet need for family planning Bangladesh, and its removal will substantially help in reducing maternal mortality in the country. The risk factors of maternal mortality are strongly associated with lack of family planning practice and other socio-economic and demographic background characteristics of women. By using data from the Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey (BDHS) of 2004 and the Bangladesh Maternal Health and Maternal Mortality Survey (BMMS) of 2001 the study has analyzed the relationship of the risk factors of maternal mortality, namely wantedness of pregnancy, age at child birth, parity and birth interval with various socio-demographic factors. The analysis has shown that use status of family planning is influenced by the risk factors of maternal mortality. Wantedness of pregnancy has been found to be significantly related with age at birth, parity and birth interval. It has been also found that the risk factors of maternal mortality also affect on antenatal care. The study has identified some policy implications regarding family planning and maternal mortality, and has made appropriate recommendations. One of the major aspects of the strategies to reduce maternal mortality through family planning is to provide family planning services to all women, regardless of any group affiliation. Fulfilment of unmet for family planning has been recommended as an important strategy to reduce maternal mortality in the country. It addition, it is also recommended to raise the age at marriage and child birth, to space births and to limit family size by empowering women through education.

Priante, Paulo Sergio Barbalho January 2013 (has links)
Introduction: emergency contraception although available as a safe and effective method for more than 30 years, even today, meets resistance as religious, cultural and social development in different regions of the world, limiting their use and compromising your knowledge on the part of the population. The perceptions of postgraduates students about female condoms at the University of Limpopo

Shiburi, Mkhotso George January 2021 (has links)
Thesis( MPH.) -- University of Limpopo, 2021 / Title: The Perceptions of Postgraduate Students About Female Condoms at The University of Limpopo Background: The female condom is one of the safest and effective female-initiated methods of contraceptives that has been promoted as an integral part of inventions that provide protection against the widespread of Human Immunodeficiency Virus and other Sexual Transmitted Infections among the youth, including at institutions of higher learning. A number of university students in South Africa are at risk of contracting HIV because of their risky sexual behaviours. How one perceives the female condom can have greater potential to influence its use. There is a gap in literature about this condom. Therefore, this study seeks to understand and document perceptions of postgraduate students about the female condom at the University of Limpopo. Objectives: To explore demographic characteristics of postgraduate students at the University of Limpopo regarding female condoms. To describe perceptions of postgraduate students at the University of Limpopo about female condoms. Methods: The study used the qualitative research approach. Participants of the study were full-time male and female postgraduate students at the University of Limpopo. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews, participants were interviewed one by one using an interview guide. The sample size of the study was 10 participants which was determined by saturation of data. An audiotape was also used to record interviews with participants, and field notes were also taken during the interview. Data was analysed through Thematic Content Analysis. Results: Literature suggests that students are aware of the female condom and its potential to reduce the risk of contracting HIV and STI but are still reluctant to use it in preference of the MC which is well marketed and promoted. The observed discarding and misuse of female condoms among students is associated with lack of knowledge and their perceptions of it. Although this study does not generalise the overall students’ perceptions regarding the female condom, but as a qualitative research, the study provides a useful qualitative enquiry of postgraduate students at the University of Limpopo about the female condom. Conclusion: Many studies have concluded that a female condom is a female-initiated method that is developed to empower and educate women to take control of their sexual health issues as well as to develop other programmes that prioritise women against HIV/AIDS and other STI. There is a need for effective interventions and campaigns to improve student knowledge in order to minimise wasteful expenditure in the process of the procurement and distribution of female condoms. There is also a need to increase the availability and accessibility of these condoms at institutions of higher learning.

Emergency contraception in Addis Ababa : practice of service providers

Lemma, Dawit Assefa 06 1900 (has links)
A quantitative, descriptive, explorative, contextual study was conducted to determine pharmacists and drug vendors' level of knowledge, attitude towards and practice on Emergency Contraceptive (ECl in Addis Ababa. Forty licensed service providers in Addis Ababa were randomly selected during 2008 and interviewed using a structured interview schedule. Data were analysed using a computer software package. The findings revealed that although these service providers were knowledgeable on the purpose and dOSing schedule of EC, they lacked knowledge on side-effects, contra-indications, and types of ECs. Most respondents portrayed a subjective attitude towards easy EC access of especially adolescent girls, since they believed that it will encourage promiscuity and unprotected intercourse. Their knowledge and practice need to be improved, as it has a direct effect on potential users and reducing unwanted pregnancies among young. / Health Studies / M.P.H. (Health Sudies)
