Numerické modelování předpjatých dutinových panelů typu Spiroll na pružném podepření a vyhodnocení průběhu napětí / Numerical modeling of the prestress hollow core slabs Spiroll type on the flexural support and the evaluation of the stresses

Kršík, Jakub January 2019 (has links)
The doctoral thesis describes the possibilities of numerical modelling of hollow core concrete panels, SPIROLL type. The commercial finite element program ANSYS 13.0 is used for the modelling. The focus is on the specific flexural support of the panel and on the distribution of the shear stresses in the panel ribs near the support. The goal is to valid actually used method for homogenization of the panel’s foreheads and its influence on the shear resistance by using four numerical models. The numerical models are compared and verified with two experiments. The first experiment is vacuum loading on the hollow core slab. Second experiment is about shear loading by applying the loading blocks. Four methods for design of hollow core panels are evaluated. It is the method based on main stresses, design according EN 1992 and EN 1168 and Yang’s method of prestress effects transfer. Based on the results, a method of considering flexural support for the evaluation of hollow core panels is proposed.

Syndrom vyhoření u profesionálů ve zdravotnictví. / Burnout syndrome in Health Care Professionals.

Riethof, Norbert January 2019 (has links)
N. Riethof - Burnout syndrome in Health Care Professionals ABSTRACT Burnout syndrome is a state of total exhaustion related to work condi- tions and prolonged stress. While initial phases of burnout resemble stress symptoms, final phases of burnout are characterized by feelings of hopelessness, loss of meaning and desperation that have similar qual- ities as depression as well as existential vacuum described by Frankl in his logotherapy. In addition, the burnout syndrome involves stages in which people detach from their emotions and feelings as a defense mechanism against stress and have decreased ability to experience their own feelings and emotional states. Burnout usually begins with feelings of enthusiasm and idealized visualizations and it is in contrast with sub- sequent disillusionment, disappointment experienced later. After decades of burnout research, there is still a need for better def- inition of this condition including more precise diagnostic criteria and internationally recognized measurement tools, especially within health care system where the risks of unrecognized and untreated burnout are high. This study is focused on examination of potential causes of burn- out and relationships of burnout symptoms with certain personality traits, defense mechanisms and coping reactions including...

Effect of Refining on Softwood Pulp with Addition of Eucalyptus for Greaseproof Paper Production : Vacuum Dewatering in Laboratory Scale / Effekt av malning på barrvedsmassa med tillsats av eukalyptus för produktion av fettresistent papper : Vakuumavvattning i laboratorieskala

Nordling, Anton January 2023 (has links)
We are provided countless products from the forest industry and has been through many years. Paper, paper board, packaging materials and furniture to mention a few. A special type of paper used in food packaging for example, is greaseproof paper. Many producers of greaseproof papers use the toxic and harmful group of chemicals called per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) in coating since they possess grease resistance. Nordic Paper is a manufacturer of iamKraft® kraft paper and greaseproof paper with over a hundred years of experience without the use of PFAS. Without PFAS, they instead rely on excess refining to form a very dense paper. Nordic Paper has decided to introduce the addition of eucalyptus fibers to the softwood sulfate pulp to enhance the formation of the paper. This study aims to investigate the effects of ~20% addition of eucalyptus fibers to softwood sulfate pulp in regard to refiner energy expended, air permeance (as a measure of grease resistance) and formation. Laboratory work has been done on hand made sheets with a vacuum suction box in laboratory scale. Eight different pulps (four with addition of eucalyptus), provided from Nordic Paper Seffle AB, Säffle, with different refining degree was used in this study. The vacuum pressure used was 20 kPa through all tests, with dwell times 0, 1, 2.5, 5, 10, and 20 ms on sheets with a grammage of 50 g/m2. The study has shown that the pulp with ~20% addition of eucalyptus achieved 86°SR with only 82% expended energy relative to the softwood pulp, which had a refining degree of 87°SR. This small difference in refining degree led to a similar development in dewatering after 20 ms dwell time and 20 kPa, where the softwood pulp achieved a dryness of 9.2% and the pulp with addition of eucalyptus achieved 9.0% dryness. The formation of the softwood pulp was worse, which was the reason for the implementation of addition of eucalyptus. The air permeance on the other hand was not improved by the eucalyptus, but more data is needed to confirm since it is based on only one occasion. So, if the air permeance (grease resistance) allows, Nordic Paper Seffle AB may be able to save 20% in expended energy for refining of softwood sulfate pulp with addition of eucalyptus.

The Detection and Identification of Explosives by Canines and Chemical Instrumentation

Madison D Reavis (12445989) 12 July 2022 (has links)
<p>  </p> <p>With bombings in the United States on the rise for the first time since 2016, the detection and identification of explosives remains of pertinent interest to law enforcement agencies. This work presents two soon-to-be published research articles that focus on the detection and identification of explosives by both chemical instrumentation and canines. The first article, <em>Quantitative Analysis of Smokeless Powder Particles in Post-Blast Debris via Gas Chromatography/Vacuum Ultraviolet Spectroscopy (GC/VUV)</em>, utilizes gas chromatography/vacuum ultraviolet spectroscopy (GC/VUV) to determine the difference in chemical composition of two smokeless powders in both pre- and post-blast conditions. The compounds of interest in this study were nitroglycerin, 2,4-dinitrotoluene, diphenylamine, ethyl centralite, and di-n-butyl phthalate. Concentration changes between pre- and post-blast smokeless powder particles were determined as well as microscopic differences between pre- and post-blast debris for both smokeless powders in all devices. To our knowledge, this is the first use of GC/VUV for the quantification of explosives. The second article, <em>An Odor-Permeable Membrane Device for the Storage of Canine Training Aids</em>, proposes the use of an odor-permeable membrane device (OPMD) as a standardized storage method for canine training aids. It is hypothesized that the OPMD would minimize cross-contamination between training aids, and that the OPMD could be used for canine training as well as storage. The goal of this research is to use flux and evaporation rate to quantify the explosive odor that escapes from the OPMD compared to unconfined explosives. Preliminary data suggests that there is an exponential relationship between relative boiling point and evaporation rate. It has been determined that compounds with higher boiling points have lower evaporation rates than compounds that have lower boiling points. The materials studied thus far are known odor compounds produced by explosive formulations. These include nitromethane, nitroethane, 1-nitropropane, r-limonene, and toluene. </p>

IoT Offensive Security Penetration Testing : Hacking a Smart Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Larsson Forsberg, Albin, Olsson, Theodor January 2019 (has links)
IoT devices can be found in almost any type of situation as the availability and viability of them has surged in the last decade with technological advancements. The purpose of this project is to investigate how secure these types of devices, in particular a robot vacuum cleaner, actually are if an ill intended actor tries to interfere with the device. Different methods used in the sphere of threat modeling and penetration testing were applied and tested with the result coming back positive. The robot vacuum cleaner was successfully compromised and the privacy of the owner could be violated applying the attacks used. The current way of thinking about privacy and security of IoT devices could therefore need to be reviewed.

INTEGRATED VACUUM TRANSISTORS AND FIELD EMITTER ARRAYS

Shabnam Ghotbi (14034600) 16 June 2023 (has links)
<p>   The arrival of Si transistors and integrated circuit technology more than half a century ago made vacuum electronic technology almost extinct. Today, there are only a few niche applications for vacuum electronics. The main issues with this technology are its high voltage requirement and high-power consumption, difficult and costly fabrication technology, lack of integration capability, and poor reliability characteristics. Some of these issues may be addressed by going to nm scale fabrication that did not exist 60 years ago. Other problems such as reliability and lack of integration capability require alternative solutions to what has been proposed so far. Vacuum is the ultimate conduction media allowing electrons to reach the speed of light without any scattering. Consequently, a vacuum transistor, if designed correctly, can achieve THz frequency performance, while delivering Watt-level powers. No semiconductor technology can compete with vacuum technology to deliver such performance. </p> <p>In this work, novel methods for implementing nanoscale field emitter arrays used in vacuum electronics are proposed. Gated and ungated field emitters are fabricated with self-assembly technology and electron beam lithography. Different anisotropic dry etching recipes are developed to achieve emitters with different sharpness and aspect ratios. Our methods lead to field emitter array operation under low voltages (less than 20 V) and high current densities (around 50 A/cm2) using self-assembly and soft film anode-cathode isolator, and field emitter devices with ~4.5 A/cm2 current density with a turn-on voltage less than 50 V using electron beam lithography and oxide anode-cathode isolator. </p> <p>Making reliable field emitter devices is challenging. Due to Joule heating, ion bombardment, and geometrical variations for each tip in the field emitter arrays, emission current becomes nonuniform across the array. Sharper tips emit at a higher rate and eventually, the heat generated at the tip deforms the tips leading to electron emission at a lower rate. With ultra-low doped emitters, the current of each tip is limited to a few nano-amperes leading to a negligible current fluctuation at the tips. </p> <p>Our fabricated ultra-low doped devices with both self-assembly and electron beam lithography techniques presented constant emission current with almost no change over 24 hours of continuous operation. Such excellent reliability characteristics in vacuum field emitter devices have not been demonstrated to date.</p> <p>The screening effect in close-packed field emitter arrays which occurs by nearby conductive or semiconductive objects is thoroughly investigated and different solutions are proposed to reduce this effect between the emitters. Simulation studies using Sentaurus TCAD, MATLAB, and COMSOL Multiphysics simulators facilitated the design and optimization of gated and ungated field emitter arrays. These studies included the effect of sharpness, the distance between neighboring emitters, enclosing the emitters by a Si block around the emitters as well as anode-cathode separation on the electrical characterization of field emitter arrays. </p> <p>The optimum location and operating voltages which lead to a maximum gate control and emitter current density are also studied for gated field emitter arrays. Instead of individually gating each field emitter, it was found that controlling the emission of a sub-array with a metallic all-around gate is more efficient and it leads to higher current densities. Guided by simulations, gated field emitter arrays with 5×5 and 2×2 sub-arrays are developed. In terms of strength of the grid control (transconductance), turn-on voltage, maximum emission current, and field intensification factor, the device with the 2×2 sub-array was superior to the one with the 5×5 sub-array. The VFET with 5×5 sub-arrays achieved a higher current density due to a larger number of field emitters packed per active emission area. Finally, plans to further improve the technology and transitioning into the fabrication of vacuum integrated circuits are discussed.</p> <p>  </p>

A study of slag-steel-inclusion interaction during Ladle treatment

Björklund, Johan January 2006 (has links)
The thesis is based on two supplements with two major objectives. In the first supplement equilibrium top slag-steel bulk and inclusions-steel bulk were investigated by comparison between calculated and measured oxygen activity values. This was done by applying different oxide activity models for slags combined with thermodynamic calculations. In the second supplement the inclusion composition is studied during the ladle refining process. The inclusion composition is related to top slag composition and other parameters during ladle treatment. The work was carried out by collecting data during well controlled sampling procedures at two different steel plants. Extensive inclusion analyses in Scanning Electron Microscope, SEM, were done. The data was used together with thermodynamics for a description of the interaction between slag-steel-inclusion interaction during ladle treatment. Evaluation of inclusion composition during the ladle refining have revealed that the majority of the inclusions belonged to the system Al2O3-CaO-MgO-SiO2 and showed a continuous composition change throughout the ladle refining process, from high Al2O3, via MgO-spinel to finally complex types rich in CaO and Al2O3. The final composition after vacuum treatment was found to be close to the top slag composition. Small process parameter changes and practical variations during ladle refining were proven to give large differences of the inclusion composition. Finally, it was concluded that equilibrium does not exist between top slag and steel bulk, with respect to oxygen, for the studied conditions. However, the equilibrium does exist between the steel bulk and inclusion. / QC 20101109

Real Time Measurement of Dirt Pick-up by a Robotic Vacuum Cleaner using Light Sensing Technology

Tina Monteiro, Shelsea January 2018 (has links)
Domestic chores are one of the most tedious and time consuming tasks in a person’s life. A lot of time can be saved and put to better use if these tasks can be automated. One such chore is the routine task of vacuuming the house every day. Robotic vacuum cleaners that clean the house are thus one of the most widely used domestic robots. These robots have the ability to clean the entire house almost autonomously with little or no human intervention. However, most of these robots do not have a system to report the real-time pick up of dirt which can be useful to the user in knowing which parts of his house are dirty and maybe investigate the reason behind it. This information can be useful to the robot as well in determining efficient cleaning patterns based on the dirt localization in the house. In this thesis a prototype was developed to measure the real-time pick-up of dirt by a robotic vacuum cleaner. It uses light sensing technology to measure the amount of dirt picked up and can thus be used to glean which parts of the house are dirtier than the others. The signals can also potentially be used to understand the size of the dirt picked up by the robotic vacuum cleaner. Research was done to investigate the different sensing technologies that can be used and to select the appropriate one. The system was tested and conclusions were made regarding its performance. Additional functions that can be implemented and improvements that can be made have also been suggested as future work.
