Internal stakeholders' involvement in the strategic planning of the University of VendaMunano, Muvhulawa Esther 02 1900 (has links)
This study focused on the possible determinants of operational efficiency at the University of Venda, which was premised on the extent to which stakeholders are involved in the strategic planning of the institution. The aim of the study was to establish the stakeholders’ involvement in the strategic planning of the University of Venda. Structured questionnaires were used to collect data during August and October 2011. The study was conducted at the University of Venda, Vhembe District in the Limpopo Province. A non-probability sampling procedure was used to select respondents. The results revealed that whilst the stakeholders seem to be involved in the process of the strategic planning, the extent of stakeholders’ involvement has largely remained contentious. The results further indicate that not all stakeholders are involved in the strategic planning process at the University of Venda. Although stakeholders are invited to participate, the process of strategic planning is absolutely dominated by the management cadre, reducing the rest participants into the doldrums. Those who are directly affected by the strategic plan are least involved in the process of the planning. Because of the lack of involvement and communication regarding the strategic planning process, the findings reveal that the majority of stakeholders were de-motivated in that regard, culminating in their lack-lustre approach towards the implementation of the orchestrated plan. The resultant lack of buy-in by the affected stakeholders, essentially the internal stakeholders (staff members and the student community), eventually hamper the actualisation of the targeted goals of the strategic plans. These results suggest that the strategic plan review should be an on-going process in order to update and involve the university community of the strategic planning processes. Proper feedback and communication on strategic planning processes should be implemented. More importantly, the stakeholders’ involvement and consultation on the strategic planning should be galvanized, since most of the staff members and students seem to be unaware of the strategic planning process at the University of Venda, let alone its contents and aspirations. / Business Management / M. Semantic features of human beings in TshivendaMulungwa, Tshiwela Thomas 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MA)--Stellenbosch University, 2000. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The aim of this study is to investigate the semantic features of human
beings in Tshivenda. For this purpose the theoretical assumptions of
Lexical semantics were taken as the starting-point of the investigation.
Various concepts such as synonymy, antonymy, hyponymy, hipernymy
and lexical hierarchy are discussed.
The semantic features of human beings are classified into two subclasses
of features, i.e. physical and psychological features. The physical features
which are prominent in Tshivenda are the following: age, physically
disadvantaged, body shape, body part, body position and colour. Six
subcategories of psychological features are recognized: intelligent,
retarded, timid, good and bad behaviour, and habits.
These features are represented by nouns in Tshivenda and such nouns
may this function as semantic adjectives with a descriptive function.
In the discussion of these features, attention is also given to the derivation
of the nouns which have these features, i.e. whether derived or not, or
whether there are compound nouns with these features. Attention is also
given to the contribution of the noun class prefix to the semantics of these
nouns.
leksikale hierargie is bespreek.
Ses
subkategrieë van psigologiese kenmerke is gevind: intelligent, vertraag,
skugter, goeie en slegte gedrag, en verskeie gewoontes.
Hierdie kenmerke is teenwoordig in naamwoorde in Tshivenda en sulke
naamwoorde kan dus funksioneer as semantiese adjektiewe met 'n
deskriptiewe funksie.
In die bespeking van hierdie kenmerke is aandag ook gegee aan die
afleiding van die naamwoorde wat hierdie kenmerke het, d.i. of hulle
afgelei is of nie, en of hulle saamgestelde naamwoorde is met hierdie
kenmerke. Aandag is ook gegee aan die bydrae van die
naamwoordklasprefiks tot die semantiek van hierdie naamwoorde.

The ethnobotany of the VhavendaMabogo, Dowelani Edward Ndivhudzannyi 20 October 2012 (has links)
In recent years Venda has suffered considerable environmental pressure as a result of overpopulation and agricultural and industrial expansion, which has led to indiscriminate destruction of vegetation and natural habitats. The ethnobotany of the Vhavenda was studied with the aim of discovering their knowledge of, and dependence on mainly indigenous plants, and its impact on the local flora and vegetation. As the first comprehensive study of its kind in Venda, it also serves as a record of an important part of the cultural heritage of the Vhavenda. Personal observations and interviews with numerous Venda people have played an important role. Information from the literature on the uses of plants by the Vhavenda was also recorded and verified. Herbarium specimens of more than 245 species of mainly indigenous, but also some exotic plants were collected and identified, and information on their uses recorded and analysed. Vernacular names for many taxa have also been recorded. The Vhavenda use indigenous plants for food, medicine, firewood, building, art, as sources of oils and dyes, for shade and as ornamentals. Despite the tendency to rely increasingly on commodities available commercially, indigenous plants still play a significant role in the lives of many people in Venda. A utilitarian system of plant classification exists among the Vhavenda. Most Venda names of plants are related to their traditional uses, morphology, anatomy, chemistry, behaviour, habitat or relationships with certain animals, while a few have onomatopoeic derivations. A traditional system of nature conservation has for long been responsible for the preservation of those plants considered to be important. / Dissertation (MSc)--University of Pretoria, 2012. / Plant Science / unrestricted

A linguistic survey of adoptives in VendaMadiba, Mbulungeni Ronald 01 1900 (has links)
This study deals with the influence of other languages on Venda. It begins by looking at the various contact situations and then analyses the adaptation of foreign linguistic forms and their impact on the Venda language.
Chapter 1 gives a historical perspective of Venda. The focus here is on the origin of the Venda language and the different contacts it has had with other languages during and after migration. Chapter 2 analyses the adaptation of foreign linguistic forms to the Venda lexical semantic system, while chapter 3 focuses on adoptives in relation to the Venda sound system. Chapter 4 focuses on the grammatical (i.e morphological and syntactic) adaptation . This chapter concludes by looking at the impact of adopted linguistic forms en the Venda grammatical system.
The final chapter gives a general conclusion on the adjustment of adopted linguistic forms and their effects on the Venda language. / African languages / M.A. (African languages)

geographical concepts. The study also focussed on
intervention methods to assist pupils acquire concepts so
that they could be able to transfer them to other
