ACM Venue Recommender SystemKodur Kumar, Harinni 17 June 2020 (has links)
A frequent goal of a researcher is to publish his/her work in appropriate conferences and journals. With a large number of options for venues in the microdomains of every research discipline, the issue of selecting suitable locations for publishing cannot be underestimated. Further, the venues diversify themselves in the form of workshops, symposiums, and challenges. Several publishers such as IEEE and Springer have recognized the need to address this issue and have developed journal recommenders. In this thesis, our goal is to design and develop a similar recommendation system for the ACM dataset. We view this recommendation problem from a classification perspective. With the success of deep learning classifiers in recent times and their pervasiveness in several domains, we modeled several 1D Convolutional neural network classifiers for the different venues. When given some submission information like title, keywords, abstract, etc. about a paper, the recommender uses these developed classifier predictions to recommend suitable venues to the user. The dataset used for the project is the ACM Digital Library metadata that includes textual information for research papers and journals submitted at various conferences and journals over the past 60 years. We developed the recommender based on two approaches: 1) A binary CNN classifier per venue (single classifiers), and 2) Group CNN classifiers for venue groups (group classifiers). Our system has achieved a MAP of 0.55 and 0.51 for single and group classifiers. We also show that our system has a high recall rate. / Master of Science / A frequent goal of a researcher is to publish his/her research work in the form of papers and journals at recognized publication conferences and journals. Conferences limit the number of pages in a submission, whereas journals tend to be flexible with the length. In general, academic conferences are held annually, while journals have a submission cut off date on a monthly/trimonthly or so basis. These conferences and journals are publication venues. With a large number of options for venues in the microdomains of every research discipline, the issue of selecting suitable locations for publishing is a complicated task. Further, the venues diversify themselves in the form of workshops, symposiums, and challenges. Submitting a work to the wrong venue often leads to a rejection. Every author who is about to publish faces this question of ``Where can I publish my work so that it gets accepted?". This thesis is an attempt to address this question through a recommendation system. Recommendation systems help us in the decision making process. A well-known example is the ``Customers who bought this also bought item y'' message we find in eCommerce websites. These systems help users navigate a product catalog better to address their needs. The goal of this thesis is to develop one such recommendation system that can help researchers to choose venues. When an author is about to publish, they structure their paper/journal in the form of a research title, brief abstract, relevant keywords in the paper, and a detailed explanation of the research carried out. Our system can take any of these as input and suggest appropriate venues based on the submission content. The dataset used for the project is the ACM Digital Library metadata. We developed the recommender using deep learning techniques. Our system can be helpful for finding a single best venue, or a group of suitable venues.

Bringing live music to the main stage: a neighborhood analysis of music venues and their surrounding areasConner, Eric January 1900 (has links)
Master of Regional and Community Planning / Department of Landscape Architecture/Regional and Community Planning / Huston Gibson / Often cities are in a perpetual struggle to increase or maintain community development within their districts; how can cities revitalize struggling neighborhoods? How can cities bring energy and life into portions of the downtown? How can cities encourage development for night-time destinations? There is no clear-cut answer to these questions, but this study will examine what amenities within districts may be in the presence of successful music venues.
I will determine the district-based criteria for potential venue placement for success based on multiple case studies of different venues located within St. Louis, MO; Omaha, NE; and Indianapolis, IN as described in Yin’s Case Study Research (2009). These case studies will be compared using the community capital framework (Green & Haines, 2012) using a matrix based upon a) social, b) physical, c) financial, and d) cultural capitals. Each study will contain both qualitative and quantitative analysis in order to tell the story of each district for more comprehensive analysis.

Enquanto a aula acontece... práticas juvenis (des)ordenando espaços e tempos escolares contemporaneosSevero, Rita Cristine Basso Soares January 2014 (has links)
This thesis has as its central interest the youth cultural practices in school spaces and times of two public schools in Porto Alegre. The Sound of Globalization : Mapping the Dynamics in Contemporary Urban Landscape of Concert VenuesForsberg Hansson, Love January 2017 (has links)
This study compares and describes the urban landscape of concert venues in Berlin and Stockholm with a focus on popular music. It features research of spatial patterns among concert venues, gathered from participant observations and semi-structured interviews with agencies and officials in the music scene. These patterns make us want to understand the relationship between venues, why they sometimes agglomerate by size in a more gentrified environment. By comparing the spatial patterns with music export data, an illustration of globalization is developed. Further, this study connects to the political controversy of the contemporary view on music, as a source of economic growth or not. The central concept of analysis is the division between high profitable hit music and conventional music. Theoretical perspectives of global economic system is the base for the hypothesis that music is not a homogeneous entity. It is rather polarized in two spheres depending on the status in the global economic system. This study suggests thathit music is a cultural product built on immaterial values and place branding for political agendas, rather than a cultural expression or genre of music like any other. This part of the music economy show specific patterns of localization.

Proyecto Doing Sports / Doing sports projectCastillo Cruz, Valeria Paola, Effio Suclupe, Ruben Isidro, Esquerre Mendives, Catherine, Franco Camarena, Oscar Eduardo, Silva Chávez, Ciro Jorge Luis 31 July 2020 (has links)

Therefore, Doing Sports was created like an app to allow the booking of many sport venues at any time by giving you the chance to meet or find any mate or missing person to practice some sports in the “pichangas”.
Likewise, it will explain how the problem was identified and the potential solution. In addition, the hypothesis validations were carried out through surveys and telephone interviews.
This document shows in-depth financial analysis of the sales projections, costs and expenses that demonstrate the feasibility and profitability in the implementation of Doing Sports project. / Trabajo de investigación

Architecture, territory, and society: Two projects for the VenetoDanziger, Elon 19 October 2006 (has links)
An architectural territory is an area of human settlement that exhibits consistent architectural conditions or elements. In this thesis, three primary aspects of territory are considered: massing patterns, circulation networks, and typological structure.
Many European architects work to extend, delimit, and join territories through their architectural interventions. In this way buildings function both as objects in themselves and as linking or delimiting parts in an urban whole.
This thesis presents an American's understanding of a typically European approach, gained during a year of study at the Accademia di architettura in Mendrisio, Switzerland. Combining observations of Accademia pedagogy with the presentation of two projects undertaken there, it offers a definition of territory and two territorial discourses. In the first project, located in Padua, the intent is to strengthen the definition of two adjacent territories by means of an interstitial housing and office complex. In the second the territory of a service island at the edge of Venice becomes the primary influence for the form of a rock venue and contemporary cultural center.
The social and political territories in a city, powerful forces for architecture, are also discussed in the context of Padua. An aging and shrinking population may not need or want a building typology that interests elite political and economic actors. / Master of Architecture
