Attachment Style's Impact On The Perception Of Self-verifying And Self-enhancing Comforting Messages

Shellabarger, Krista 01 January 2008 (has links)
This study investigates the connection between one's adult attachment style and one's evaluation of verifying or enhancing comforting messages. Drawing from research by Swann (2005) and Katz and Joiner (2002), the hypothesis predicted that an individual would prefer verifying messages over enhancing messages regardless of attachment style. A research question was also posed: Will an individual's adult attachment style moderate the degree to which a person perceives the communication of verifying or enhancing messages as helpful or effective? In an effort to find these answers, a questionnaire was completed by 251 individuals. Results indicate a preference for verifying messages among participants regardless of attachment style. This is consistent with the findings of Katz and Joiner (2002) and Swann (2005). However, results did not indicate a significant difference between attachment style and a preference of enhancing or verifying messages.

The Role of Social Media Journalists in TV News:Their Effects on the Profession and Identity of TV Journalism, the Quality of News, and theAudience Engagement

AL Yousufi, Yousuf Humiad 28 June 2019 (has links)
Spurred by the rapid influence of social media in the news industry, an increased number of TV news stations have started assigning dedicated social media journalists (SMJ) in newsrooms to monitor, gather, verify, share news, and engage with audiences on the streams of social media. Consequently, drawing on the diffusion of innovation theory, the present study probes into TV journalists’ perceptions of the implications of the role of this new type of TV professionals in the identity and profession of journalism, the quality of news pertaining to the verification of misinformation, and the news audiences’ attractions and viewership by capitalizing on audience engagement affordances. Moreover, based on an online survey delivered primarily via LinkedIn to a broad spectrum of TV journalists consisting of broadcast, website, and social media journalists in three varied regions of the world—the U.S, Western Europe, and the Middle East—the study demonstrates some concerns about the effects on the code of ethics of journalism. However, most of the surveyed journalists believed that the role of social media journalists SMJ is consistent with the general principles tethered to the professional identity of journalists. Additionally, the study underlines the weight of this role to verify information gleaned from social media before being used in TV news and asserts the significance of engaging with TV audiences to increase the news viewership and enhance their attractions. Accordingly, the study argues that espousing the role of SMJ has become an inevitable fashion in social media-embedded newsrooms. However, the research documents that many TV news channels have broadcast misinformation spread on social media. Furthermore, it unfolds that far less attention has been paid in many TV newsrooms to the potentially positive and beneficial utility of the role of SMJ concerning audience engagement. It signals that a lack of time, tools, strategy, and training causes the dilution of the role quality of SMJ, thereby suggesting that news channels can aggressively tap into this role if these obstacles are conquered. Finally, since research on this concern is still scant at its initial stage, the study shows some venues for future studies in this direction.

Logika a kryptografie / Logika a kryptografie

Wagner, Vojtěch January 2015 (has links)
Title: Logic and cryptography Author: Bc.Vojtěch Wagner Department: Department of Algebra Supervisor: prof. RNDr. Jan Krajíček, DrSc. Abstract: This work is devoted to a study of a formal method of formalization of cryptographic constructions. It is based on defining a multi-sorted formal logic theory T composed of strings, integers and objects of sort k - k-ary functions. We allow some operations on them, formulate axioms, terms and formulas. We also have a special type of integers called the counting integers. It denotes the number of x from a given interval satisfying formula ϕ(x). It allows us to talk about probabilities and use terms of probability theory. The work first describes this theory and then it brings a formalization of the Goldreich-Levin theorem. The goal of this work is to adapt all needed cryptographic terms into the language of T and then prove the theorem using objects, rules and axioms of T. Presented definitions and principles are ilustrated on examples. The purpose of this work is to show that such theory is sufficiently strong to prove such cryptographic constructions and verify its correctness and security. Keywords: cryptography, protocol verifying, Soundness theorem, formal logic theory, the Goldreich-Levin theorem 1

Falešné zprávy: Způsoby posuzování a ověřování zpráv jejich příjemci / Fake News: Methods of assessing and verifying news by their recipients

Čajanková, Kateřina January 2020 (has links)
The diploma thesis "Fake News: Methods of assessing and verifying fake news by their recipients" is focused on the ways of evaluating media content by their recipients and the factors that affect the assessment process in the context of fake news phenomenon. The purpose of the thesis is to find out how people perceive the content they read; what affects their perception; and what are the criteria that govern their assessment. The theoretical part first defines the concept of fake (false) news, among other things in connection with the overuse of the term fake news. In the next chapters, the current role of the media and the issue of credibility and trust in the media are approached. The conclusion of the theoretical part discusses the social and psychological assumptions that affect the perception and actions of recipients. The second part presents the research background of this thesis. The research is based on a combination of qualitative and quantitative inquiry. The qualitative approach is focused on the description of the processes and criteria used by the recipients in assessing and verifying the news. Data collection is therefore realized through eight semi-structured interviews, which are analysed by the open coding method. The quantitative research part is based on hypotheses about the...

Made available in DSpace on 2011-05-04T12:36:29Z (GMT).
