Moving Object Detection based on Background Modeling

Luo, Yuanqing January 2014 (has links)
Aim at the moving objects detection, after studying several categories of background modeling methods, we design an improved Vibe algorithm based on image segmentation algorithm. Vibe algorithm builds background model via storing a sample set for each pixel. In order to detect moving objects, it uses several techniques such as fast initialization, random update and classification based on distance between pixel value and its sample set. In our improved algorithm, firstly we use histograms of multiple layers to extract moving objects in block-level in pre-process stage. Secondly we segment the blocks of moving objects via image segmentation algorithm. Then the algorithm constructs region-level information for the moving objects, designs the classification principles for regions and the modification mechanism among neighboring regions. In addition, to solve the problem that the original Vibe algorithm can easily introduce the ghost region into the background model, the improved algorithm designs and implements the fast ghost elimination algorithm. Compared with the tradition pixel-level background modeling methods, the improved method has better  robustness and reliability against the factors like background disturbance, noise and existence of moving objects in the initial stage. Specifically, our algorithm improves the precision rate from 83.17% in the original Vibe algorithm to 95.35%, and recall rate from 81.48% to 90.25%. Considering the affection of shadow to moving objects detection, this paper designs a shadow elimination algorithm based on Red Green and Illumination (RGI) color feature, which can be converted from RGB color space, and dynamic match threshold. The results of experiments demonstrate  that the algorithm can effectively reduce the influence of shadow on the moving objects detection. At last this paper makes a conclusion for the work of this thesis and discusses the future work.

FAGER, MATTIAS, LARSSON, NIKLAS January 2017 (has links)
We have seen a connection between the ritual dances us humans have been engaging in for a huge part of our evolution and the rave-culture of today. How they both use music and the moving body as a vehicle to access states of being beyond the everyday life. By diving head first in the world of dance and trance we have discovered even more similarities that we today share with the humans 10.000 years ago than we ever could have imagined. We have with the help of interviews and our personal experience tried to capture what the trance means for the human today, and with our research we want to illustrate the similarities and differences between in digital world we live in today compared to the world we have lived in for thousands of years before the digital technology’s advance. This text has been our vehicle to analyse and discuss the things we still hold on to as humans even though the world around us has changed.

Murray-Hall, Méralie 08 1900 (has links)
This thesis examines the discourses and embodied experiences of participants from the underground electronic house music scene in Montreal. In this empirical study, I aim to provide a twofold contribution to the field of studies on contemporary expressive cultural formations. First, on the methodological standpoint, this research illustrates the scope of the « explicitation » interview—a method of retrospective introspection developed by French researcher Pierre Vermersch (1994)—in assisting informants in the process of putting sensory impressions, emotions, thoughts or actions into words. Combined with a long-term immersive approach in the field, I argue that this innovative method proved to be a rigorous tool, which allowed participants to access and verbalize embodied memories with unprecedented accuracy. Second, this ethnographic study sheds light on new social spaces of solidarity and expression created by middle and upper middle class Quebecers of Haitian origin. The results of this research show, firstly, that the "vibe"—an idiomatic expression widely used by the househeads to qualify their experience—is a conceptual cornerstone that maintains cohesion between the representations, beliefs and bodily practices of the participants. Secondly, the study demonstrates that this cultural formation stands as a new expression of counter-cultural space, which establishes a critical distance from both the commercialised "hip hop culture" as well as the dominant (mainstream) cultural space by promoting a subversive bodily and spiritual experience. This unique site of transmission and communion creates new models of sociability and contributes in an unusual way to the intercultural urban dialogue in Montreal.

Karlsson, Sebastian January 2020 (has links)
The aim of this study was to examine surfers ́ experiences of surf culture in sweden and all over the world how this compares to the rest of the world. The overall research questions for this study were ”How do the surfers experience the culture in Swedish surfing” and ”How do the surfers experience the Swedish surf culture compared to abroad”? In order to answer these questions in the study, five Swedish surfers were interviewed about their experiences. The data was analyzed and categorized into different themes by drawing on Bourdieu ́s concept of field, capital and habitus. The result of the study shows that the surfers thoughts, feelings and experiences was very much the same for how they look at the surfing culture both in Sweden and abroad. They all highlighted key elements of surfing culture and identeties as related to nature experiences. In conclusion the surfers also had a clear picture about their thoughts about nature experiences, hierarchy and localism.
