Current and future application areas for external data in data warehouses

Niklasson, Markus January 2003 (has links)

External data is data that a company could acquire outside their internal systems. This external data could bring another dimension for the companies, and allow them to further understand the environment. External data incorporated into a data warehouse makes it possible to exploit a number of application areas. The comprehensive aim of this dissertation is to outline what application areas that companies exploits today and what the future will bring. To achieve this, an interview study among people working with external data and DWs have been conducted.

Based on the information gathered through the study, the most common application areas are address updates, credit information, and marketing. Some smaller application areas have also been identified. A discussion on what application areas that will come in the future, are also to be found.

Factors influencing the adoption of data warehouse technology in a South African government department.

Bantsijang, Boitumelo. January 2014 (has links)
M. Tech. Business Information Systems / Organisations have entered into an information age where lack of knowledge on decision-making can have a negative impact on the business. Government entities deal with a huge amount of data which is a valuable asset. Decision-makers have problems in making informed decisions due to fragmented data and having to rely on IT to provide reports for them. An integrated repository can support organisations to have accurate and quality data readily available to enable them to perform reliable analyses. Currently, government departments are experiencing challenges with the adoption of data warehouse technology. Therefore, in this research, an interpretive case study was employed to explore factors influencing the adoption of data warehouse technology in a government department.

A Data Driven Mine-To-Mill Framework For Modern Mines

Erkayaoğlu, Mustafa January 2015 (has links)
Mine to Mill optimization is considered as a key concept for metal mining recently. Targeting operational best practices on a highly varying environment is challenging. Impact of underperformed basic operations such as drilling and blasting will sustain this inefficiency in mineral processing. Data provided for each of these operations from software and hardware utilized on field reached a level where advanced data analytics becomes applicable. In order to represent the operations as close to reality, an integrated layer of data where transactional and process based data lives is crucial. Data warehousing and data mining are alternative tools that rely on a robust data structure. Data mining utilizes the integrated data layer for pattern discovery within the data itself. Relations that are unknown for now can be investigated by data mining algorithms that rely on vast amount of data. Empirical equations that are based on a limited set of data could be improved by using data mining algorithms. The main objective of optimizing the mine to mill value chain also challenges the concept of providing real-time feedback. This research proposes a data-driven mine-to-mill framework for modern mines.

Transformacijų šablonais grindžiamas duomenų saugyklos projektavimo procesas / Data warehouse building process based on data transformation templates

Paulavičiūtė, Kristina 11 January 2006 (has links)
Growing amount of data and needs of data analysis starts needs of data warehouses. A lot of organizations operational data cumulates in OLTP DBMS databases. Organization historical data are cumulating in data warehouses. These data are adjusted for data analysis. DBMS ETL tools don’t have good data warehouse building opportunities. Created ETL tool for MS SQL Server makes data warehouse building process easier and speedier.

Sandėliavimo proceso tobulinimas AB „Kauno Baltija“ / Improving warehousing process AB „Kauno Baltija“

Živatkauskas, Tomas 20 March 2009 (has links)
[toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Warehouse processes are analyzed in this bachelor thesis in order to solve the main problem – how to reduce the quantity of faults that arise during the warehouse process. The purpose of this study is to research the reasons of warehousing process inefficiency and to find the solutions for improving warehouse management. The study is based on manufacturing company JSC “Kauno Baltija” which is one of the largest garment exporters in Lithuania. This study is divided into three main parts. Firstly, the sewing market tendencies and key-success factors were analyzed as well as the weaknesses and strengths of the company identified. First part of this study also summarizes the main theoretical arguments, which show that process management has big influence on overall organizational performance and may be the powerful tool for gaining the competitive advantage through low costs, flexibility and quality. The second part of this bachelor thesis consists of empirical research of AB “Kauno Baltija” warehouse process. Qualitative method of empirical research was chosen, because this is the best way to analyze process in its natural environment. In order to gain data of empirical research several tools were used – observation, the analysis of company documents, informal interview with workers, analysis of nonfiction and unscientific literature. The qualitative empirical research of AB “Kauno Baltija” warehouse processes showed that the basic problems causing inefficiency of all... [to full text]
