Modernizace systému nakládání s odpady / Modernization of the waste management systemŠofr, Jan January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to suggest the right solution for the current situation of a disposal dump located close to the town of Lány in Middle Bohemia. There are two possible solutions how to continue with the project, either leaving the current state of the disposal dump or building an integrated centre for mechanical -- biological treatment of the waste. Taking into account economical calculations and other factors like time factor, investment amount, expected year profit, payback period, changes in european legislation and others, I have deciced to suggest one more solution. In my opinion the most efficient way for solving the situation is using financial support from Operational Programme Environment in a field Waste Management Improvement and buy composting and sorting line .

Attitudes and behaviour of low-income households towards the management of domestic solid waste in Tafelsig, Mitchell's PlainNshimirimana, Jules January 2004 (has links)
Magister Artium - MA / Solid waste management in South Africa has been focussing on the technical issues of waste disposal with little attention paid to the social and economic aspects of households. It is important to find out the impact of the attitude and perception of households on solid waste management, especially in low-income areas to be able to deal with the deplorabe domestic solid waste management in such areas. The quantity of solid waste generated in low-income areas is often assumed to be less than the solid waste generated in high-income neighbourhoods. In most of the townships of low-income households in Cape Town, the residents live next to mountains of solid waste which is not the case in middle and high income areas. This clearly has a negative effect on the environment and human health. Tafelsig is one of the low-income Cape Flats townships where the open spaces and green areas are dumping areas. The small yard that people own is often unclean. The aim of the study was to examine how households residing in the low-income neighbourhood (Tafelsig, Mitchell's Plain) view domestic solid waste and its management. The study explored the perceptions, attitudes and behaviour of these households towards the production and management of sold waste. Issues relating to the degradation of their environment and to solid waste mismanagement were also examined. / South Africa

Plano de gestão sustentável dos resíduos na agroindústria canavieira em SergipeCruz, Izaclaudia Santana da 28 September 2011 (has links)
The industry of sugar cane improvement represents a traditional sector and fundamental to Brazil’s economy, agribusiness is dedicated primarily to produce sugar and alcohol. In
Sergipe, the improvement of sugar cane is one of the main economic activities, and production is concentrated in six sugar cane plants located in the state. It is known that during
alcohol production and sugar, these industries also generate wastes which are of great economic importance, such as bagasse and vinasse. However these residues when they are
destined improperly can cause environmental damage, so it is necessary to adopt waste management in order to meet the aspirations of sustainable development. This theme is of
great importance once the issues relating to the reuse of waste occupy now a significant portion of investments by economic sectors, including sugar cane plants. In addition it
includes to economic factors, social, cultural, political and environmental aspects. Based on the paper presents theoretical reference, a literature that demonstrates the importance of the
sugar cane agro-industrial sector in the context of sustainable development, and address the Environmental Management System ISO 14001 and the main waste generated by the agroindustrial activity. The results showed that sergipanas sugar cane plants have not adopted yet the policy of managing its waste, aiming at sustainability. Therefore, the management plan developed in this work will be important to this industry segment in Sergipe perfect their waste management practices, contributing to environmental preservation.
consequentemente a implantação do desenvolvimento sustentável.

The Management of CSR within the plastic industry : A study of plastic producing companies within the Gnosjö region in Sweden / Ledningen av CSR inom plastindustrin : En studie av plastproducerande företag inom Gnosjöregionen i SverigeAvramidou, Sara, Tellstedt, Maria January 2020 (has links)
Background: The matter of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has more and more become a topic of interest today. As the concept has gained attention, the emphasis on its different concepts has shifted from the focus lying on the social responsibilities, to being more about the environmental responsibilities and impact of companies. Although the attention put on CSR and the environment has increased, an increase in the amount of plastic waste is still seen in the world. In Sweden, corporations accounts for as much as 50% of the total amount of plastic waste every year. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to analyse the management of environmental Corporate Social Responsibility in plastic producing companies, specifically the management of CSR within the Gnosjö region in Sweden Method: This qualitative study involves multiple case studies primarily based on semi-structured interviews with managers of plastic producing companies in the Gnosjö region of Sweden. Findings: The study showed that plastic companies are challenged in several ways, like re-using their production waste, caring for their employees, switching to more sustainable energy sources, and adhering to sustainable standards. Thus, companies’ goals are required to satisfy environmental demands by positioning their CSR-work towards customers’ environmental needs. Conclusion: This thesis conclude that companies’ have different views on the meaning of CSR. It was found that sales and profit were the main motivators of adopting CSR practices, followed by some ethical aspects. Companies will continue to experience an increased demand for recycled plastics and that the importance of CSR will persistently grow. New knowledge demands the development of new materials and better strategies for recycling.

City of Denton Municipal Solid Waste Characterization and Management StrategiesBrady, Patricia D. 05 1900 (has links)
Due to concern about diminishing landfill space, the City of Denton contracted a municipal solid waste characterization study in 1999 that would identify materials for diversion. This paper describes the results of 5 1-week waste sorting events, a scale-house analysis, a recycling participation study, a recycler profile and a similar city study. The results of the characterization studies suggest that at least 50% of each waste stream is recyclable or divertible though paper products accounted for no more than 45% by weight of any waste stream. Curbside recycling participation rate was 71% during the 6-week study period though the average weekly set-out rate was 37%. Recycling participation rates varied significantly by zip code and by home value categories but not by gender. Denton is fairly progressive in its waste management approach when compared to demographically similar cities on a 15-question assessment though recommendations for improvement have been identified.

Färdigbehandlade deponier : Ska miljöövervakningen fortlöpa? / Closed landfilling sites : Shall the environmental monitoring be proceeded?Persson, Hilda January 2021 (has links)
Waste management is an important key to protect the environment and human health. Landfilling is the oldest form of disposal of waste and due to that Sweden has about 2000 closed landfilling sites. Closed landfilling sites might have negative impact on the environment and must therefore be monitored to reduce the risk of pollution. A way to monitor a closed landfill site is to analyze the surrounding waters and ground waters to see if the leaches might affect them. This study aims to determinate when a closed landfilling site might be considered safe enough to stop monitoring. The landfilling site at Ersmarksberget has been used as an example. A screening has been performed in the ground water and analyses from 2007-2020 have been used to determinate how or if the landfilling site affects the surrounding waters. Metals, persistent organic pollutants, and nutrients have been analyzed. The result of this study tells us that the landfilling site do not have a great impact on surrounding waters. Some concentrations of metals are higher in waters in the landfilling catchment area compared to a reference sites, but most of the pollutions are not above the environmental quality standards set by Swedish authorities. If the negative effects of a closed landfilling site are a bare minimum it might be time to stop the monitoring. To protect the environment and human health it is better to monitor and to remediate sites that are affecting the environment in a severe way.
