Translating Swedish University Webpages into English : A study of translation strategiesHägg, Anna January 2011 (has links)
The focus of this paper is on university webpages and the translation of these. With the help of existing translation strategies, it aims to map out the strategies used in Swedish web pages in English with a focus on names and words/expressions for which there are no direct equivalents in English. The study shows that the most common strategies regarding the translation of names were translating word for word and using the nearest equivalent. Regarding language-specific expressions, the most common strategies were using cultural equivalents and reduction. Not surprisingly, additions in the text were most often matters of importance to an international audience, and the most common omissions were matters that only had a local interest.

Towards secure web browsing on mobile devicesAmrutkar, Chaitrali Vijay 08 June 2015 (has links)
The Web is increasingly being accessed by portable, multi-touch wireless devices. Despite the popularity of
platform-specific (native) mobile apps, a
recent study of smartphone usage shows that more people (81%) browse the Web than use native apps (68%) on their phone. Moreover, many popular native apps such as BBC depend on browser-like components (e.g., Webview) for their functionality. The popularity and prevalence of web browsers on modern mobile phones warrants characterizing existing and emerging threats to mobile web browsing, and building solutions for
the same. Although a range of studies have focused on the security of native apps on mobile devices, efforts in characterizing the security of web transactions originating at mobile browsers are limited.
This dissertation presents three main contributions: First, we show that porting browsers to mobile platforms leads to new vulnerabilities previously not observed in desktop browsers. The solutions to these vulnerabilities require careful balancing between usability and security and might not always be equivalent to those in desktop browsers. Second, we empirically demonstrate that the combination of reduced screen space and an independent selection of security indicators not only make it difficult for experts to determine the security standing of mobile browsers, but actually make mobile browsing more dangerous for average users as they provide a false sense of security. Finally, we experimentally demonstrate the need for mobile specific techniques to detect malicious webpages. We then design and implement kAYO, the first mobile specific static tool to detect malicious webpages in real-time.

Τεχνικές επαναδιατύπωσης ερωτημάτων στον παγκόσμιο ιστό για ανάκτηση πληροφορίας προσανατολισμένης στο σκοπό αναζήτησης / Query rewrites for goal oriented web searchesΚύρτσης, Νικόλαος 15 May 2012 (has links)
In this thesis, we tackle the problem of automatic classification of search results in
Web environment. First, we define web pages features that are convenient for classification
based on the user’s intent. Next, we use dimensionality reduction techniques to
choose the most representative features and we evaluate different classification algorithms.
We choose the most efficient classification algorithm based on chosen features
and by using it, we classify the results retrieved from web searches. In the end, we
propose a method to extract terms from the classified results and to reformulate the
query based on user intent.

This thesis deals with fundraising of non-profit organisations. The scope of the thesis is to provide the reader with basic information about fundraising, and to apply this information in order to evaluate the fundraising of a selected non-profit organisation. First of all, this work defines the non-profit sector and its long-term sustainability, then the work deals with the fundraising itself. Issues connected with credibility of the organisation and its webpages are included in the part concerning fundraising. These factors establish a competitive advantage in activities that are focused on fundraising. These theoretical foundations are applied on a chosen non-profit organisation, and additionaly, the webpages of the organisation are also analysed, and an ASNO14 non-profit organisation reliability analysis is carried out. The data used in the practical part was collected through an analysis of annual reports of the organisation, webpage analysis and through a personal interview. The ending of this thesis includes an overall evaluation and improvement proposals.

Datahantering vid dynamiska webbteknologier : PHP eller ASP?Olsson, Alexandra, Fahlén, Malin January 2002 (has links)
The last couple of years the use of Internet has changed in the way that the web pages can be affected of the person that uses them. Because of this dynamic Internet technology has emerged that makes it possible for a web page to receive information from a web browser. This information can then be used to affect the appearance of the page. PHP and ASP are two dynamic Internet technologies. They are integrated in HTML and are executed on the web server. E-commerce and search pages are example of this kind of web pages. The purpose of this examine thesis is to find out which of the technologies that are best suited when information needs to be stored on the web server. The thesis turns mostly to programmers that are planning to create a web application for this purpose. The analysis, which consists of three main questions, is based on a literature study and on a web application that has been developed. The result of the analysis is that ASP is more complicated because more external components are included and a lot of objects has to be created. PHP is a much more structured technology and is simpler constructed. Our conclusion of this thesis is that the functionality within both technologies are basically the same. But because PHP´s code is constructed much simpler this technology is more suited for storing.

Event-related Collections Understanding and ServicesLi, Liuqing 18 March 2020 (has links)
Event-related collections, including both tweets and webpages, have valuable information, and are worth exploring in interdisciplinary research and education. Unfortunately, such data is noisy, so this variety of information has not been adequately exploited. Further, for better understanding, more knowledge hidden behind events needs to be unearthed. Regarding these collections, different societies may have different requirements in particular scenarios. Some may need relatively clean datasets for data exploration and data mining. Social researchers require preprocessing of information, so they can conduct analyses. General societies are interested in the overall descriptions of events. However, few systems, tools, or methods exist to support the flexible use of event-related collections.
In this research, we propose a new, integrated system to process and analyze event-related collections at different levels (i.e., data, information, and knowledge). It also provides various services and covers the most important stages in a system pipeline, including collection development, curation, analysis, integration, and visualization. Firstly, we propose a query likelihood model with pre-query design and post-query expansion to rank a webpage corpus by query generation probability, and retrieve relevant webpages from event-related tweet collections. We further preserve webpage data into WARC files and enrich original tweets with webpages in JSON format. As an application of data management, we conduct an empirical study of the embedded URLs in tweets based on collection development and data curation techniques. Secondly, we develop TwiRole, an integrated model for 3-way user classification on Twitter, which detects brand-related, female-related, and male-related tweeters through multiple features with both machine learning (i.e., random forest classifier) and deep learning (i.e., an 18-layer ResNet) techniques. As guidance to user-centered social research at the information level, we combine TwiRole with a pre-trained recurrent neural network-based emotion detection model, and carry out tweeting pattern analyses on disaster-related collections. Finally, we propose a tweet-guided multi-document summarization (TMDS) model, which generates summaries of the event-related collections by using tweets associated with those events. The TMDS model also considers three aspects of named entities (i.e., importance, relatedness, and diversity) as well as topics, to score sentences in webpages, and then rank selected relevant sentences in proper order for summarization.
The entire system is realized using many technologies, such as collection development, natural language processing, machine learning, and deep learning. For each part, comprehensive evaluations are carried out, that confirm the effectiveness and accuracy of our proposed approaches. Regarding broader impact, the outcomes proposed in our study can be easily adopted or extended for further event analyses and service development. / Doctor of Philosophy / Event-related collections, including both tweets and webpages, have valuable information. They are worth exploring in interdisciplinary research and education. Unfortunately, such data is noisy. Many tweets and webpages are not relevant to the events. This leads to difficulties during data analysis of the datasets, as well as explanation of the results. Further, for better understanding, more knowledge hidden behind events needs to be unearthed. Regarding these collections, different groups of people may have different requirements. Some may need relatively clean datasets for data exploration. Some require preprocessing of information, so they can conduct analyses, e.g., based on tweeter type or content topic. General societies are interested in the overall descriptions of events. However, few systems, tools, or methods exist to support the flexible use of event-related collections.
Accordingly, we describe our new framework and integrated system to process and analyze event-related collections. It provides varied services and covers the most important stages in a system pipeline. It has sub-systems to clean, manage, analyze, integrate, and visualize event-related collections. It takes an event-related tweet collection as input and generates an event-related webpage corpus by leveraging Wikipedia and the URLs embedded in tweets. It also combines and enriches original tweets with webpages. As an application of data management, we conduct an empirical study of tweets and their embedded URLs. We developed TwiRole for 3-way user classification on Twitter. It detects brand-related, female-related, and male-related tweeters through their profiles, tweets, and images. To aid user-centered social research, we combine TwiRole with an existing emotion detection tool, and carry out tweeting pattern analyses on disaster-related collections. Finally, we propose a tweet-guided multi-document summarization (TMDS) model and service, which generates summaries of the event-related collections by using tweets associated with those events. It extracts important sentences across different topics from webpages, and organizes them in proper order.
The entire system is realized using many technologies, such as collection development, natural language processing, machine learning, and deep learning. For each part, comprehensive evaluations help confirm the effectiveness and accuracy of our proposed approaches. Regarding broader impact, our methods and system can be easily adopted or extended for further event analyses and service development.

Využití auditu webových stránek pro Competitive Intelligence / Using web pages audit for Competitive IntelligenceLecián, Michal January 2017 (has links)
This thesis is focused on thorough description of Competitive Intelligence term and its fol-lows usage for webpages audit. The practical part of this thesis is primarily created for the Bisnode company. However, it can be used everyone who wants to perform on-line webpages analysis of their competitors. In thesis are also used professional tools of Majestic company and SEOPowerSuite company. I got these for limited time after my e-mail corre-spondence with company´s support team. At the beginning of practical section the Bisnode company is introduced to readers, so that they might become familiar with it. After that, the analysis was performed and divided into 4 thematic areas based on Bisnode´s wish. I ana-lyzed strengths and weaknesses of monitored sites in each of this section so that the company can learn not only from their mistakes but also from mistakes of its rivals. I tried to analyze Competitive Intelligence term in detail in the theoretical part of thesis. In addition, this term is viewed from multiple angles (its history, reflection of its Czech trans-lation, ethic associated with the CI term or description CI as process). So, this thesis can be also a beneficial for readers that know this term but want get deeper knowledges.
