Anslutningar i prefabricerade betongkonstruktioner – design för återmontering / Connections in precast concrete structures – design for reassembly

Haidari, Hasnain, Ali, Sadaqat January 2023 (has links)
This report focuses on sustainable solutions in construction, emphasizing the reuse of prefabricated concrete elements. Making concrete has so many negative environmental impacts. One way of tackling these impacts is minimizing the production of concrete through the growing use of prefabricated elements that can be dismantled and reused, leading to cost reduction and environmental benefits. An important aspect concerning the reuse of concrete elements is the connections between these elements which should be both strong and detachable to enable easy disassembly. The reuse of elements saves both time and concrete.  In this thesis, a comprehensive study has been made on different types of connections between precast concrete elements in buildings with column and beam structures, as well as load-bearing walls and floors. The study is then used to classify the connection types according to their ease and capability of disassembly.  In order to implement the result of the classification, a building is selected, and connections are suggested between the load-bearing elements. The strength of the connections are then controlled with the help of detailed calculations to see if the suggested connection types can bear the load of the building. The primary aim of this report is to contribute to a better understanding of connections in prefabricated concrete elements and provide a practical example through the case study. It can be beneficial for engineers, architects, and professionals in the construction sector involved in the design and construction of prefabricated concrete buildings.

Life extension of welded steel details in bridges / Livstidsförlängning av svetsacle ståldetaljer i broar

Jin, Zhelei January 2023 (has links)
High-Frequency Mechanical Impacts (HFMI) is a surface treatment technique utilized to introduce residual stresses and extend the service life of structures. This project primarily focuses on studying the life extension effects of HFMI on welded structures that have undergone fatigue and have existing cracks. This is of significant importance for the maintenance of structures jointed with welds, such as bridge structures. Therefore, this project selected welded components with lower fatigue strength in bridge structures as research specimens for analysis and testing. To simulate the conditions that bridges experienced over many years of usage, initial notches were prepared near the weld toes. A data acquisition and control system was developed to analyze crack propagation behavior, using NI devices to assess the pre-fatigue condition and control the fatigue testing machine. To understand the test results, fracture mechanics calculations and finite element simulations were applied for comparison. In conclusion, based on the experimental results, HFMI improves the life of welded structures with cracks. This demonstrates the feasibility of using HFMI for the maintenance of bridge welding structures and extending their service life.

Non-invasive Method to Measure Energy Flow Rate in a Pipe

Alanazi, Mohammed Awwad 08 November 2018 (has links)
Current methods for measuring energy flow rate in a pipe use a variety of invasive sensors, including temperature sensors, turbine flow meters, and vortex shedding devices. These systems are costly to buy and install. A new approach that uses non-invasive sensors that are easy to install and less expensive has been developed. A thermal interrogation method using heat flux and temperature measurements is used. A transient thermal model, lumped capacitance method LCM, before and during activation of an external heater provides estimates of the fluid heat transfer coefficient ℎ and fluid temperature. The major components of the system are a thin-foil thermocouple, a heat flux sensor (PHFS), and a heater. To minimize the thermal contact resistance 𝑅" between the thermocouple thickness and the pipe surface, two thermocouples, welded and parallel, were tested together in the same set-up. Values of heat transfer coefficient ℎ, thermal contact resistance 𝑅", time constant 𝜏, and the water temperature °C, were determined by using a parameter estimation code which depends on the minimum root mean square 𝑅𝑀𝑆 error between the analytical and experimental sensor temperature values. The time for processing data to get the parameter estimation values is from three to four minutes. The experiments were done over a range of flow rates (1.5 gallon/minute to 14.5 gallon/minute). A correlation between the heat transfer coefficient ℎ and the flow rate 𝑄 was done for both the parallel and the welded thermocouples. Overall, the parallel thermocouple is better than the welded thermocouple. The parallel thermocouple gives small average thermal contact resistance 𝑎𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑔𝑒 𝑅"=0.00001 (𝑚2.°C/𝑊), and consistence values of water temperature and heat transfer coefficient ℎ, with good repeatability and sensitivity. Consequently, a non-invasive energy flow rate meter or (BTU) meter can be used to estimate the flow rate and the fluid temperature in real life. / MS / Today, the measuring energy flow rate, measuring flow rate and the fluid temperature, in a pipe is crucial in many engineering fields. In addition, there has been increased use of energy flow rate meters in the renewable energy system and other applications such as solar thermal and geothermal to estimate the useful thermal energy. Some of the commercial energy flow rate meters are using an invasive sensor, has to be inside the pipe, including turbine flow meter and vortex shedding device. These systems are expensive and difficult to install. A new approach that uses non-invasive sensors, attached on the outside of the pipe, that are easy to install and less expensive has been developed by using the heat flux and temperature measurements. A parameter estimation routine was used to analyze the data which depends on the minimum root mean square 𝑅𝑀𝑆 error between the calculated and experimental temperature values. A correlation between the unknown parameter, heat transfer coefficient (ℎ), and the measured flow rate 𝑄 was done to estimate the flow rate. The results show that the new non-invasive system has good repeatability, 15.45%, high sensitivity, and it is easy to install. Consequently, a non-invasive energy flow rate meter or (BTU) meter can be used to estimate the flow rate and the fluid temperature in real life.

Nelineární analýza bezstykové koleje v obloucích malého poloměru / Nonlinear analysis of continuous welded rail in curves of small radius

Murínová, Klára Unknown Date (has links)
The diploma thesis examines the influence of curve radius on continuous welded rail stability in a small radius curve. Attention is paid to curves with a radius less than 300 m. The first part of the thesis summarises the theory of continuous welded track and influence of track parameters on track stability. The second part of the thesis deals with constructing of the numerical model of a curved track with the observed behaviour of track under thermal loading with positive and negative temperature values. The variable values in the model are rail shapes and different radius. In the end, the shape of the track lateral deflection as a function of temperature are evaluated.

Estudo da corrosão em junta tubo-espelho soldada por SATG entre as ligas AISI 316L e AISI 444 / Study of corrosion process on tube-to-tubesheet welded joints performed with TIG process and using AISI 316L and AISI 444 alloys

Guilherme, Luis Henrique 21 November 2011 (has links)
Recently in Brazil there has been constant investments in ethanol plants, to supply the internal and external market, resulting at a high increase of the volume of this product. However, economical and environmental problems arose because of this new demand, whereas the current technologies produce thirteen liters of vinasse for each liter of alcohol. Each ECOVIN uses nearly 4000 welded tubes in the heat exchangers, and there is an option to use welded AISI 444 alloy tubes in order to reduce the manufacture costs of the ECOVIN. In this context, this work determines the corrosion mechanisms and analyzes the performance of welded tubes and the tube-to-tubesheet welded joints. The following types of tube-to-tubesheet were evaluated: current welded joints of this project, with all components manufactured with AISI 316L alloy; and the welded joint suggested for the project, using the welded tubes of AISI 444 alloy and the plate of AISI 316L alloy. For this purpose, the first step was to evaluate the weldability of the studied alloys, through microstructural characterization, welding procedure qualification and the intergranular corrosion test. After that, mass loss tests were conducted in 0,5 M \'H IND.2\'SO IND.4\' and 0,5 M \'H\'CL\' solutions, at 30°C, 50°C, 70°C and 90°C, according to the temperature range of the equipment operating. Electrochemical polarization tests were made in the same solution concentration used in the mass loss tests, but only in room temperature. These tests were made in samples that were welded with the same thermal cycle of the tube-to-tubesheet welded joints, and the evaluations were made on the base metal, heat affected zones and weld metal. The uniform and localized corrosion process occurred preferentially in the interface formed between tube and weld metal, and on weld metal near the tubes. In the tube-to-tubesheet dissimilar welded joints, it was observed that the corrosion process was predominant on the surface of AISI 444 alloy, probably because of the galvanic corrosion process, where the AISI 444 was an anodic region. The best performance on corrosion process was observed in AISI 316L, both the base metal and the similar welded joints. However, for the tests in chloride environment, in this process, the temperature caused a proportional influence in the corrosion rate of AISI 316L and AISI 444. In the AISI 316L alloy it was observed nucleation of pitting in HAZ and in weld metal, in both solutions, and more aggressive than observed in the AISI 444 alloy. The results showed that the AISI 444 alloy can be applied for the initial ranging temperatures of the equipments operation, with satisfactory performance.

Prediction and experimental validation of weld dimensions in thin plates using superimposed laser sources technique

Wu, Tsun-Yen 20 May 2011 (has links)
The objective of this research is to develop a method to evaluate important weld dimensions in thin plates by using laser generated ultrasounds and EMAT receiver. The superimposed laser sources (SLS) technique is developed to generate narrowband Lamb waves with fixed wavelengths in thin plates. The method permits the flexibility of selecting desired wavelength. The signal processing procedure that combines wavenumber-frequency (k-w) domain filtering and synthetic phase tuning (SPT) is used to further reduce the complexity of Lamb waves. The k-w domain filtering technique helps to filter out the unwanted wave components traveling at the direction that is not of interest to us and the SPT technique is applied to amplify and isolate a particular Lamb wave mode. The signal processing procedure facilitates the calculation of reflection coefficients of Lamb waves that result from the presence of weld joints. The SLS and signal processing procedure are then applied to measure reflection coefficients in butt welds and lap welds. Two methods, the direct method and indirect method, are used to develop models that use reflection coefficients as predictors to predict these weld dimensions. The models developed in this research are shown to accurately predict weld dimensions in thin plates.

Modélisation thermomécanique et analyse de la durabilité d'échangeurs thermiques à plaques soudées / Thermomechanical modelling and fracture analysis of Compabloc heat exchangers

Laurent, Mathieu 14 January 2013 (has links)
This study proposes a simple methodology to estimate the mechanical response and lifetime of weldedheat exchangers subjected to thermal loadings. The structure of the heat exchanger is modeled toestimate its mechanical response for thermal loads. Thermoelastic calculations are carried out with thefinite elements method. From these simulations, the regions where the stress concentrates areidentified. Then, a micromechanics approach is adopted to identify the material’s elastic plasticresponse with isotropic and kinematic hardening. Its durability under oligocyclic fatigue isinvestigated with an original 4 points alternate bending.d vice. From these experiments, a Manson-Coffin criterion is identified. This criterion is used to estimate the heat exchangers lifetime in terms ofmaximum cycles for thermal loadings with different magnitude. To this end, the plastic deformation isestimated from the macroscopic calculation with an energy equivalence between the thermoelasticcalculation and the non linear one. The predictions are found in agreement with experimental datacarried out on test-heat exchangers, for both the thermoelastic response and the number at cycles atrupture.

Many are the metallurgical variations suffered by the material when it is subjected to a weld thermal cycle, which promote a considerable influence on mechanical properties, and specifically on the welded joint residual stresses. In the project phase, one of these alternatives is the use of computational methods via simulation. So, in this work a numerical methodology to determine the temperature field and transverse residual stresses was developed. The numerical simulations were implemented using a commercial software ABAQUS® based on finite element method (FEM). In addition, a source of heat proposed by Goldak, able to model the heat input value was used. Input parameters, such as: Current, voltage, speed and initial temperature of the virtual plate were also evaluated. To validate the thermal results and the other thermal and mechanical simulations a virtual plate of API 5L X70 and API 5L X-80 steel welded by the FCAW and GTAW and SMAW processes respectively was used. The results showed that it was possible to evaluate the influence of preheat and interpass temperature on the weld thermal gradients and thermal cycling, as well as the change in peak temperature and cooling time between 800 and 500 (∆t8/5) values in different regions of the welded joint. In relation to the transverse residual stresses, it was showed that there were changes in its profile when it was applied more than one weld pass which can serve as base model for future work in this area.

Šantavý, Ivo January 2012 (has links)
This dissertation deals with a development of a laser welded common rail with a radially attached RPS sensor of pressure. The new concept required by Bosch Diesel s.r.o. Jihlava should be more modifiable and it should be easily integrated with the engine compartment. In this dissertation I suggested a number of concepts that I further analysed, verified in appropriate software, developed, and finally narrowed the selection down to the most suitable solution, which is recommended and justified in the conclusion.
