Interação com Wikis por meio de Mensageiros Instantâneos / Wiki Interation using Instant Messaging Bots

Rafael Pereira dos Santos 19 February 2009 (has links)
The Internet usage has grown significantly in recent years and has fomented the development of several communication tools via web. Tools that make available the various online contents created by the users, such as wikis should be especially highlighted. The success achieved by wikis is due in large extent to the small amount of effort required to edit pages. This is an indicator that this feature is very appreciated by users. In order to make the editing process of wikis even faster, this work presents a proposal of using integrated Instant Messaging tools features with wikis. Thus, a new means of interaction in the process of editing in wikis, via Instant Messenger, was designed and implemented. This proposed means of interaction augments the way of interaction with conventional wikis, by enabling authors to edit the wiki content without having to shift from his/her communication environment in use. This proposal is supported by the fact that Instant Messaging systems have been widely used and adopted. Moreover, this research provides evidences to help the identification of advantages and disadvantages of the use of bots in Instant Messaging, from the results of the experiments and case studies conducted

The Potential of Wikis for Producing DTBook Contents

Bernier, Alex, Burger, Dominique, Marmol, Bruno 12 July 2011 (has links) (PDF)
Wikis are widely used by communities to create and update documents on the Web. This presentation describes the potential of Wikis for producing DAISY (more precisely DTBook) contents. We discuss how to convert existing Wiki contents into DTBook. We also examine how DAISY content producers could use Wikis as an easy and free tool to collaboratively edit their documents. The case of MediaWiki is studied (this Wiki software is used by Wikipedia, Wikisource, Wikibooks, …). We describe how to expand its functionalities as to make possible the importation and exportation of DTbook contents.

Investigating Wikis as Agents for Virtual Team Activity Awareness

Shulman, David Mark 01 January 2010 (has links)
Virtual team collaboration through the Internet has become a commonplace event for preparing and publishing collaboratively authored documents. While collaborative technologies are now ubiquitous through the advent of Web 2.0, there is still considerable work required to ensure that virtual team members are able to maintain a sufficient level of activity awareness about other members and their roles and contributions in the collaborative authoring of a document. The goal was to measure and evaluate wiki notification mechanisms as agents to significantly raise activity awareness for virtual teams engaged in collaborative authoring. Virtual teams collaboratively authored a project over a sixteen-week term using team wikis. The participants were undergraduate students divided into groups of between 25 and 27 each in three online business courses. Attention focused on the significance of e-mail and RSS notifications as agents for raising activity awareness. Evaluation of the effect of notification mechanisms on activity awareness was done with a pretest-posttest control group design and a descriptive analysis of data, plus a posttest only design to test for significant academic achievement gains on projects. The Activity Awareness Questionnaire with IRC Domains and Levels was used to measure activity awareness. Additionally, a pedagogical evaluation of student success based on treatment type was undertaken. The ANOVA was used for measuring virtual team academic success between the control and treatment groups. In general the data analysis suggested that the use of RSS and e-mail notification did not have a significant impact on either activity awareness or virtual team academic performance.

Wikis sémantiques distribués sur réseaux pair-à-pair / Distribued Semantic Wikis on Peer-to-Peer

Rahhal, Charbel 09 November 2010 (has links)
The Web 2.0 has shown the importance of collaborative systems. It has allowed to transform a community of strangers into a community of collaborators. Nowadays, many social tools such as wikis and blogs are used by large communities; they produce a large amount of information. The Semantic Web aims structuring this information in order to make it processable by machines. Many social tools evolve by integrating the Semantic Web technologies. Wikis as social tools follow this trend and evolve towards semantic wikis. The introduction of Semantic Web technologies in social tools raises a number of problems such as scalability and support for collaborative editing processes which is necessary to maintain the quality of the content. In this thesis, we address these problems through an instantiation of the optimistic replication model in the context of semantic wikis, an instantiation replicating a new data type composed of wiki pages and semantic annotations. Indeed, the optimistic replication model is based on the replication of shared objects on multiple sites and ensures their consistency. In our context, the number of sites is unknown and varies like in P2P networks. A collaborative editing system using the optimistic replication is correct if it ensures the consistency model CCI. We propose Swooki and DSMW, two instantiations of the optimistic replication model for semantic wikis that ensure the CCI consistency of the new replicated data type. Swooki is the first P2P semantic wiki. It addresses specifically the problems of scalability and fault tolerance. While DSMW allows to build a semantic friend-to-friend network and to support collaborative editing processes

Enterprise wikis as a means of creating business value: The impact of the CIO

Benjamin, Gideon, Zhou, Chenfan January 2012 (has links)
Mass collaboration has been made possible through social networking tools likewikis. With features that support the principles wikinomics, wikis are enabling largenumber of people to participate in the production process without necessarily beingat the same physical location. Organizations and IT managers are beginning to har-ness this new technology in a way that will create business value for their companies, helping them to produce goods and services that are valuable for their customers. This research sets out to explore the business values of using wikis in enterprises, andhow the CIOs and other IT managers who are responsible for handling the IT/IS re-sources of their firms leverage wikis to create business value. This was accomplishedby examining collaborations on wikis from two different perspectives: Firstly, fromthe CIO or IT manager’s perspective where we gathered their own views about thebusiness values of wikis and also assess their own impact on creating those businessvalues. Secondly, we examined the business values of wikis from the user’s perspec-tive by gathering the views of different wiki users. The main contribution of this research is to identify if any, the business values thatare obtained from using wikis in enterprises and to ascertain the impact of the CIOon the business values that are being created. / The report we did is research report which aims to investigate the impact of CIO and enterprise wikis for companies. / Master Thesis in Informatics

Using Wiki technology for primary-school students' collaborative projects : affordances, constraints and evaluation

Fu, Huijuan, 傅惠鵑 January 2013 (has links)
The project-based collaboration setting is becoming increasingly common at different educational levels. Recent years have witnessed the rising use of wikis as computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) environments. However, reports on the application of wiki technology in facilitating collaborative projects at the primary level are few; in particular, information on the affordances and constraints of wikis at this learning stage is limited. Such information is essential for educators when planning and implementing wikis as an effective educational tool. This study aimed to introduce wiki technology to facilitate collaborative project-based learning (Collaborative PjBL) in a primary “General Studies” (GS) course and to explore the associated affordances and constraints. A total of 388 Hong Kong Primary-five (P5) students from 4 local Chinese primary schools used a wiki for their social science group project during their GS course. Adopting a mixed-method approach, a combination of qualitative and quantitative data were collected, including focus group interviews, students’ activities within the wiki platform, students’ reflections written on the wiki pages, and a questionnaire. These data were used to explore the affordances and constraints of the wiki for collaborative projects as perceived by the primary-school students, and to gain an understanding of students’ attitudes towards and perceptions of the wiki in general. The findings showed that the wiki provided five kinds of educational affordances, six kinds of technological affordances, and two kinds of social affordances. The affordances that were aimed for the collaborative PjBL task were therefore achieved. At the same time, constraints were found to be related to technological factors and users’ dispositions. To counterbalance constraints, teachers could select wiki variants and provide more scaffolding on the use of wiki during the process of project completion. Students’ attitudes and perceptions towards the wiki were found to be strongly positive after the group project implementation. The research contributes to our understanding of the use of a form of social media, wiki technology, in primary education. On a theoretical level, it deepens previous research by identifying the categories of the wiki’s affordances and constraints for primary-school students’ collaborative PjBL. On a practical level, the pedagogical implications derived from this study may provide guidelines for primary-school educators to plan collaborative PjBL activities with wiki technology. / published_or_final_version / Education / Master / Master of Philosophy
