Elizabeth Janet Gray (Mrs. Morgan Vining): A bio-bibliographyUnknown Date (has links)
"'Librarians have been forced increasingly into bibliographic activity, and have in the process developed important bibliographic techniques and forms.' The type of bibliography depends upon its use or need as a means of communication. A bio-bibliography is believed to be the most useful media for the subject chosen for this paper because the life and the works about the subject have never been brought all together. It is hoped that through this paper the reader may find readily accessible information relevant to materials by and about Elizabeth Janet Gray (Mrs. Morgan Vining)"--Introduction. / Typescript. / "June, 1953." / "Submitted to the Graduate Council of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts." / Advisor: Sara K. Srygley, Professor Directing Paper. / Includes bibliographical references (leaves 65-66).

A bio-bibliographic study of Margaret Wise BrownUnknown Date (has links)
"Some six months after the death of Margaret Wise Brown in November, 1952, Ellen Lewis Buell stated that she was the author of more than seventy books, and pointed out that with her passing the children's book publishing world had lost one of 'its most prolific writers.' An obituary notice gave the number of her publications as one hundred books 'under own name and pseudonyms.' The pseudonyms--Timothy Hay, Golden MacDonald, Juniper Sage--represented, according to Miss Brown, 'clear-cut writing personalities and distinct styles' differing from each other and from Margaret Wise Brown so greatly that, from the first draft of a book, it was perfectly clear to her just which one of her literary personalities was doing the writing. This remarkable statement, the discrepancy in the count of her books, and a curiosity about a writer who could produce in a life span of little more than forty years such a great number of books, be it seventy or one hundred, are the motivations for this paper. Its purpose is to compile from various sources a literary biography of Margaret Wise Brown and to establish the canon of her writing"--Introduction. / Typescript. / "August, 1959." / "Submitted to the Graduate School of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements of the degree of Master of Arts." / Advisor: Robert Clapp, Professor Directing Paper. / Includes bibliographical references.

Esther Forbes, contemporary New England writerUnknown Date (has links)
"This paper has two purposes: (1) to bring together for the first time, and make available for future reference, biographical and bibliographical material concerning Miss Forbes and her works; and (2) to present an analysis of the evaluation accorded her publications. The procedure followed in gathering this material was to check such sources as Cumulative Book Index, Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature, International Index, Short Story Index, Biography Index, Essay and General Literature Index, Book Review Digest, and the various indexes in the field of American literature. Each of the titles is analyzed on a basis of its reviews in periodicals and by its listing in the A.L.A. Catalog, the Fiction Catalog, the Bookman's Manual, the Children's Catalog, the Standard Catalog for High School Libraries, as well as other recognized selection guides"--Introduction. / Typescript. / "August, 1958." / "Submitted to the Graduate Council of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science." / Advisor: Louise Galloway, Professor Directing Paper. / Includes bibliographical references (leaves 66-82).

Katherine Anne Porter: A biographical and bibliographical studyUnknown Date (has links)
"Katharine Anne Porter, since the appearance of her first work, Flowering Judas, in 1930, has achieved a place of distinction among American writers. It has been said of her that 'Few persons have built so solid a reputation on so small a published output.' With the emergence of Miss Porter as a figure of importance on the literary horizon, it seems fitting to make readily accessible for those who might be interested a list of works by her and works about her. The bibliography which has been undertaken to achieve this consists of two parts: an annotated bibliography of works by her and a checklist of works about her. In each case the bibliography is as complete as available materials permit"--Introduction. / Typescript. / "August, 1951." / "Submitted to the Graduate Council of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts." / Advisor: Robert George Clapp, Professor Directing Paper. / Includes bibliographical references (leaves 35-36).
