Clinical Social Work with Underserved Persons in Colorado in an Integrated Healthcare FacilityGoetz, Trisha Sue 01 January 2017 (has links)
There is significant documentation showing that health disparities experienced by underserved persons can be mitigated through the provision of quality integrated healthcare. This research project was grounded in social support theory and how support influences improvements in physical, psychological, and overall health. Social workers in integrated healthcare are in a unique position to be the source of social support for individuals experiencing health disparities, yet there is little research concerning how these social workers are providing services and how they affect health outcomes. This research addressed gaps in the literature concerning social worker roles in order to improve integrated healthcare for underserved populations. Data was gathered from social workers employed by Federally Qualified Health Care integrated facilities in Colorado that treated underserved populations. An action research methodology was used to investigate social worker roles through the utilization of a focus group (N = 4); there were 4 emergent themes. These themes were: social workers supporting patients and staff, influencing quality healthcare integration, possessing certain characteristics and competencies, and performing role responsibilities. Support through the use of personal characteristics, competencies, and role responsibilities was identified by stakeholders as the foundation of quality integrated healthcare. The potential impact of understanding social worker roles may include improved health outcomes for individuals served, improved social work practice, improved integrated healthcare provision, gaps in the literature filled, positive social change, and contribution to a wider body of knowledge.

Verklighetens utmaning - Mötet med klient, hur redo är den nyutexaminerade socionomen?Mårtensson, Adam January 2020 (has links)
This scientific paper examines five newly qualified social workers (NQSW) in Sweden who are in an intermediate position after graduation between education and working life in social work. The study aimed to investigate how the graduates felt prepared after training to execute professional conversations and meetings in social work with clients. Qualitative interviews were conducted for this paper, where the results show that the NQSW felt partially prepared for this. Some challenges were seen in the result related to conversations and meetings, amongst these, were their role in the exercise of authority, that showed that they had met deeper dimensions of authority than what their education had prepared them for. Through theories related to different roles based on Erving Goffman (2011), analysis has been made to different roles that NQSW needs to take on, and its impact on them. Results show, among other things, that NQSW perceive it as a difficult balance between being personal and professional in meetings with clients. The result also highlights personal and professional development for self-awareness from the education as helpful, but there was a wish for more of this during the social work program. With theories of knowledge according to Gustavsson (2000; 2002), the results were also analyzed and presented about how NQSW obtained knowledge and how education made it possible to gather knowledge for conversations and meetings in the social work. It was found in the results, as in previous research, that theoretical knowledge from education that was linked to actual situations or practice, has been beneficial to NQSW in their professional practice. However, NQSW felt that the education could continue to be more related to practice and wished for more reality-based education. Based on this essay, one can also point out the importance of the transition between education and practical work. NQSW could be seen as they carried a certain vulnerability in the form of knowledge gaps, uncertainty of their role, and how practical social work is executed when the NQSW goes from education. They felt that introduction to the field was important given from the new workplaces. In this essay, they meant that they were given some opportunity and support in continuing developing their knowledge, related to meetings and conversations through further education and collegial support at their workplaces.

Exploring the Factors Responsible for Occupational Stress Among Police Officers in NigeriaLateef, Ahmed 01 January 2019 (has links)
Over 90 percent of police officers in Nigeria are confronted with psychological illness and injuries as a result of occupational stress, which is compounded by a lack of attention to police officer welfare by government, insufficient annual leave, and poor salaries that contribute to poor performance. Using Karasek's demands on decision and control model as the foundation, the purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore the impact of occupational stress on police officers in a metropolitan police agency in Nigeria. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 15 senior police officers who had at least 20 years experience in law enforcement in Nigeria. These data were inductively coded and subjected to thematic analysis that resulted in 8 themes. These themes included insufficient police personnel, limited environmental resources, family-work conflict, unclear work roles, inadequate counselling and training procedures, conflict from job demands, extended working hours, and inadequate salary level as factors contributing to occupational stress. The positive social change implications stemming from this study include recommendations to Nigerian police executives to improve awareness of how to effectively manage factors responsible for occupational stress among police officers to promote a balanced work-life experience, good health, and more professionalism in their duties of protecting life and property.

Conversational AI Workforce Revolution : Exploring the Effects of Conversational AI on Work Roles and OrganisationsPapadopulos, Julien, Christiansen, Jonas January 2023 (has links)
Recent public artificial intelligence (AI) advancements, particularly ChatGPT, are predicted to transform whole industries, work roles and organisational structures, leading to some jobs becoming obsolete while also creating new opportunities. This qualitative research explores the effects of ChatGPT on work roles and organisations in the information technology (IT) industry, more specifically, the effects on skills, competence, and organisational processes such as the automation of routine and non-routine tasks. The aim is to fill the gap in how ChatGPT affects the IT industry and to provide recommendations for policy makers, companies, and workers to address these challenges. Two research questions were formulated: “How does the increasing adoption of ChatGPT in internal work processes of businesses in the IT industry change work roles” and “impact the organisation and what are the potential implications for changes in work roles due to ChatGPT?”. To explore and answer these questions two data collection methods were used such as semi-structured interviews and qualitative questionnaires, with a combined sample size of 14 participants. The data was analysed using thematic as well as content analysis and the theoretical framework. The findings suggest that adopting ChatGPT is indeed transforming work roles and organisations by automating routine and non-routine tasks, leading to efficiency and cost savings. While some roles and skills change, others become entirely obsolete. The impact varies based on organisational factors, the nature of work and adaptability to new technologies, leading to the emergence of new opportunities in AI management and big data. Smaller companies in particular benefit from implementing ChatGPT, allowing focus on other tasks such as for example strategic development. Organisational challenges include training employees and adapting to new technology as well as concerns for job loss.
