This study examines what kind of families that are portrayed thru a case study on digital educational materials for the upper level of the elementary school. It describes the previous research that exists in terms of family research and norms in the Swedish school. The theory part focus on aspects such as heteronormativity, the heteronormative life script and performativity and how we are affected by repeatedly coming into contact with the same representations. The method and the material collected for the thesis is based on a qualitative case study design. The results, including three teaching materials, submits the total number of representations in both text and image form, and more consistently in text form. After that, the images included in the study are presented. In the result are parts of the school's curriculum included which gives the study a perspective on what is said about the Swedish school. The results are finally analyzed from a heteronormative perspective and put in relation to the curriculum.
