Esta dissertação aborda os modos através dos quais o espaço é (re)significado em função do deslocamento de um lugar para o outro e da passagem do tempo (experimentada em um mesmo lugar). É o resultado de uma investigação empírica realizada junto a um grupo de migrantes – homens e mulheres – atuais moradores de uma região localizada na periferia do município de Esteio e que se fundamentou nas reminiscências narradas em encontros coletivos e individuais (pesquisador-pesquisado). Dessa forma, para compreender como o processo de migração foi experimentado pelos sujeitos entrevistados e, nele, como se deu a atualização das relações com os lugares (de onde saem, por onde passam e nos quais se radicam), recorreu-se, em primeira instância, a um conjunto de memórias individuais. Enquanto parte de um processo educativo mais amplo – educação ambiental –, o presente trabalho pretendeu fornecer subsídios para se (re)pensar a dinâmica dos processos migratórios e de expansão das cidades (constituição de periferias urbanas). Além disso, objetivou conferir às discussões que nos constituíam como grupo uma profundidade histórica particular (relacionada com o lugar) a partir da qual pudéssemos tematizar as relações entre sociedade, cultura e os demais elementos físicos e biológicos do meio, isto é, o ambiente enquanto campo relacional. Os estudos empreendidos sugerem a migração enquanto um processo contínuo, que se estende para além do deslocamento físico entre lugares e se prolonga por toda a vida do migrante. Entre suas principais condições de possibilidade aparecem as redes de sociabilidade/solidariedade e os deslocamentos anteriormente efetuados. A (re)construção do espaço, por sua vez, dá-se a partir do encontro entre “velhos e novos mundos”: novos mundos que se constroem a partir dos velhos e velhos mundos que se reconstroem a partir dos novos. Envolve a transformação material da paisagem e uma constante (re)construção de significados através das quais não só o meio é modificado, mas também aqueles seus habitantes e sujeitos. Por fim, o trabalho de rememoração realizado em grupo, para além dos seus objetivos imediatos e circunscritos, revelou-se um profícuo espaço educativo, permitindo não apenas a emergência de um rico conjunto de informações, mas principalmente a ampliação e reformulação da compreensão dos participantes sobre si mesmos, uns sobre os outros e também sobre o espaço de vida compartilhado. / This dissertation approaches the means by which space is (re)signified due to relocation and to time passing (experienced in a single place). It is the result of an empirical investigation carried out within a group of migrants – men and women – currently residing in a region in the outskirts of the city of Esteio. Such investigation was based on memories narrated in group and individual meetings (researcher – researched). Therefore, in order to understand how the migration process was experienced by the interviewed subjects and how the relationships with places (where they come from, where they pass by and where they settle) were updated, we have resorted to a gathering of individual memories. Having parted from a wider educational process – environmental education –, this paper intends to furnish subsidies to (re)think the dynamic of migration processes as well as the expansion of cities (constitution of urban outskirts). In addition, it was aimed at giving a particular historical depth (related to the place) to the discussions we have had within the group, from which we could approach the relationships between society, culture and the remaining physical and biological elements of the area, or better, the environment as a relationship field. The studies thus conducted suggest that migration is a continuous process, which extends beyond the physical relocation from place to place and stretches itself for the migrant’s lifetime. Among its main conditions of possibility there are the sociability/solidarity networks and the relocations that happened previously. The (re)building of space happens from the moment that “old and new worlds” meet: new worlds that are built from the old and old worlds that are rebuilt from the new. It also involves the material transformation of the landscape and a constant (re)construction of meanings, through which not only is the environment modified, but also its inhabitants and subjects. Finally, the work of remembering carried out in group, beyond its immediate and restricted aims, has been revealed a proficuous educational space, allowing not only the emergence of a rich amount of information, but also the enlarging and reformulation of the participants’ comprehension of themselves, of one another and of the space they share.
