This paper presents a study of the concept of identity represented in the literary and cinematographic homonymic works: Blindness (1995), by Saramago, and the homonym film by Fernando Meirelles (2008); and The last flight of the flamingo (2005), by Mia Couto, and the homonym film (2011), by John Ribeiro. The study of identity in these works is based mainly on approaches to the field of Philosophy, Cultural Studies and Sociology. For this purpose, initially from these areas, problematizations taking shape around the identity epistemology, along with concepts of modernity, hypermodernity, globalization, schizophrenia, among others, were used in this work. In four chapters we present, in association with the literary and cinematic analysis, the analysis of new problematizations of identity from theoretical approaches to movie theater and concepts of tradition, belonging, rhizome, postcolonialism, among others, in order to draw the objectives of our study more substantially.
