In today's society, in-betweenness is a term that describes a position that individuals may experience when they are between different cultural groups. This can be a result of the globalized world we live in and it can also be the outcome of diversity and inclusion where people with different backgrounds and experiences strive to find their own place and voice in society. This study aims to examine young adults with non-European background experiences of in-betweenness and its influence on their identity formation. By exploring their experiences of in-betweenness, the study seeks to gain a deeper understanding of the defining characteristics of these experiences and how individuals cope with them. The study follows a qualitative approach where we have conducted six semi-structured interviews. The results show that all informants perceive themselves as living in a state of in-betweenness and experiencing a lack of belonging to both cultures. However, they feel that both are equally important to them, as both have shaped their personality and identity. The results also show that they feel most at home with others who share similar experiences of living with two cultures. Discrimination, stigmatization and categorization of Swedish society as "the other" reinforces their feeling of exclusion and in betweenness. The results also show some positive aspects, such as that the informants feel that they have developed a deeper understanding and awareness of other cultures' values, traditions and norms, which facilitates the creation of wider networks. Furthermore, they express that it fosters creativity as it enables the exchange of experiences and knowledge that lead to new solutions and insights into problems.
