The aim of this study is to analyse how men and women are represented in Swedish textbooks in the theme First World War. Six textbooks for Swedish secondary school, three older from the former curriculum and three from the newer curriculum from 2011, are analysed. The result in this study shows that two of the newer textbooks do not correspond to the new curriculum when it comes to gender and equality. One of the newer textbooks has been rewritten and more information and more pictures of women from the first world war has been added but females are still underrepresented. The cause of this may not be up to the authors own failing to meet the curriculum but because the history is unequal and women did not have that much political influence during this period.
