Previous issue date: 2015-03-31 / The task of developing a debate that enables new purposes in social relations and, in a
way, to build a better world, with more equitable and more democratic social relations. These
are tasks presented in the redescription, by Richard Rorty (2005), as a fertile soil to be sown
and cultivated. In this sense, by choosing the movie "Freedom Writers," in which ables to
propose an analysis of strategies to redefine gender, education and culture. According to
Rorty (2005) there are three redefining strategies. In the first and second ones prevail stories
that deal with legally rights already guaranteed by the law and the third one transcends the
legal matter, considered impossible or even strange to be accepted by the society. However it
is important that it has a narrative. This dissertation presents three chapters. The first refers to
the analysis of the relationship between the woman and education, the second focus on the
discussion of democracy, citizenship and culture concepts and the third one highlights the
classroom 203 from the film, by its redescription and the role of Social Work in right to
education. The strategies of redescription in tripod gender, education and culture in the
context of the film "Freedom Writers" allowed a new perspective on education, especially on
the female role, who contributes directly in the construction of citizenship and democracy. It
is believed that although the film production would address issues related to teaching and
learning, the redescription is presented throughout the story, due to the deconstruction and
construction of students and the teacher Erin Gruwell new habits. This sets up the possibility
of writing new meanings, new approaches, new vocabularies from everything that was
believed to have been exhausted. / A tarefa de desenvolver um debate que possibilite novos significados para as relações
sociais e, de certo modo, para que se construa um mundo melhor e relações sociais mais justas
e democráticas, encontra, na redescrição de Richard Rorty (2005), um solo fértil para ser
semeada e cultivada. Assim, a escolha pelo filme Escritores da Liberdade permitiu uma
análise das estratégias de redescrição no tripé gênero, educação e cultura, prevalecendo, nas
duas primeiras, a narrativa de histórias que tratam dos direitos já assegurados legalmente; já a
terceira transcende o legal, sendo vista como algo impossível ou até estranho de aceitar-se em
sociedade. Contudo, o importante é que haja uma narrativa. Esta dissertação apresenta três
capítulos, desenvolvidos da seguinte forma: o primeiro refere-se à análise da relação entre a
mulher e a educação; o segundo privilegia o debate dos conceitos de democracia, cidadania e
cultura; o terceiro destaca a sala de aula 203 do filme, sua redescrição e o papel
socioeducativo do Serviço Social no acesso ao direito à educação. As estratégias de
redescrição na análise do tripé: gênero, educação e cultura no contexto do filme Escritores da
Liberdade permitiram um novo olhar sobre a educação, em especial sobre a especificidade
feminina, por contribuir diretamente para a construção da cidadania e da democracia.
Acredita-se que, embora a intenção do produtor do filme fosse abordar temas relacionados ao
ensino-aprendizagem, a redescrição esteve presente em toda a história, em virtude da
desconstrução e construção dos novos hábitos dos alunos e da professora Erin Gruwell. Isso
configura a possibilidade de escrever novos significados, novas abordagens, novos
vocabulários de tudo aquilo que se acreditava ter esgotado.
