Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This work is the result of an anthropological research that studies the Thirteen May Museum, a Museum of community character that was created in 2001 in the town of Santa Maria/RS as an attempt to save and keep the heritage of the former Thirteen May Railway Historical Society, a Negro Social Club created by black railwayman in 1903. Through ethnographic and documentary research has sought to understand and analyze the trajectory of this club. What the survey found is that in the process of converting the "Club" in Museum played a very important role in the reflections and visibilities about black identity in the city. / Este trabalho é resultado de uma pesquisa antropológica que objetivou estudar o Museu Treze de Maio, um Museu de caráter comunitário, criado no ano de 2001, na cidade de Santa Maria/RS, como uma tentativa de salvar e guardar o patrimônio da antiga Sociedade Cultural Ferroviária Treze de Maio, um Clube Social Negro, fundado por ferroviários negros da cidade, no ano de 1903. Por meio de pesquisa etnográfica e documental, se procurou conhecer e analisar parte da trajetória deste clube. O que a pesquisa nos apontou é que o processo de conversão do Clube em Museu desempenhou um papel muito importante nas reflexões e visibilizações acerca da identidade negra na cidade.
