Abstract This examination project studies two groups of students, who are in the last year of the mandatory school attendance in Sweden (15 years old and in school year nine), their views and thoughts about the Swedish school. The purpose of this study is to examine how the students in the study thinks about the role that the Swedish school have, and should have in the society, and how, and if the fostering mission that the Swedish school have, has any implication on the student’s opinions. I have also studied if the student’s trusts the Swedish school. I have made my study on interviews with two groups of students, one with four boys and one with four girls. The members in both of the groups came from the same class in school year nine. My results shows that the students have some trust for the Swedish school but it’s hard to see if there is a high amount of trust or a low amount by looking at the boys answers, but the girls answers shows that they have a low amount of trust for the Swedish school. But both of the groups agree that the role that the school should have, is to teach the children things that they have use of in the future. They also agree that they have not been influenced by the schools fostering mission, and that is not the schools mission to foster the children, it’s the parents who should have that role. By the end of the examination project there is a discussion, where I discuss the implications that my results may have on my upcoming work as a teacher. / Sammanfattning Det här examensarbetet handlar om hur två elevgrupper ser på den svenska skolan som institution, och om och i så fall hur skolans fostransuppdrag upplevs av eleverna, och om den har någon påverkan. Detta är även mitt syfte med examensarbetet, att undersöka hur elever ser på skolan. Detta gör jag genom att undersöka hur stort förtroende eleverna har för skolan, upplever eleverna att de blir utsatta för påverkan av de värden som skall förmedlas av skolan, eller har andra faktorer en större påverkan för elevernas åsiktsbildning? Min undersökning är gjord på intervjuer med två stycken fokusgrupper, en med fyra stycken killar, och en med fyra stycken tjejer. Båda grupperna kom från samma årskurs nioklass, från en högstadieskola som jag i examensarbetet håller anonym. Mina resultat visar att eleverna visar upp ett visst förtroende för skolan, men om förtroendet är högt eller lågt är svårt att utläsa ur killgruppens svar, medan tjejgruppen utrycker ett lägre förtroende för skolan. Men båda grupperna är överens om att skolans uppdrag är att ”lära ut barnen” och att det är skolans uppgift att lära dem saker de behöver ha med sig i framtiden. Eleverna i studien upplever sig inte heller bli utsatta för någon fostran eller påverkan från skolans håll, och dem anser inte heller att det är skolans uppgift att fostra eleverna, utan att det istället är en uppgift för hemmet. I den avslutande diskussionen så diskuterar jag mina resultat och vilka konsekvenser dessa kan ha för mitt kommande yrke som lärare.
