The effect of product familiarity on consumers' attention to online advertisements : An eye-tracking experiment.

Trel, Marion January 2017 (has links)
Purpose - The purpose of this research was to study millennial consumers' attention to online advertisements published by streetwear companies on social media. The aim was to investigate differences between consumers' attention to familiar products and unfamiliar products. Three hypotheses were constructed to test whether product familiarity affects consumers´ attention to advertisements: H1: Consumers who are familiar with the products are more likely to look at them in advertisements than consumers who are unfamiliar with the products. H2: Consumers who are familiar with the products will spend more time looking at them in advertisements than consumers who are unfamiliar with the products. H3: Consumers who are familiar with the products will find them faster from advertisements than consumers who are unfamiliar with the products. Method - The study applied between-subjects design by dividing 40 participants in two matched groups based on their gender. Both groups had 10 male and 10 female participants. During the eye-tracking experiment, participants in Group 1 were shown three product photos for two seconds and three advertisements containing the same products for four seconds. Participants in Group 2 were only presented with three advertisements for four seconds. The results of the study are presented in two parts. Firstly, heatmaps give an illustrative overview of the findings and Statistical analysis presents the results of statistical tests. Chi-square test was performed to test the first hypothesis and independent-samples t-tests were performed to test the second and third hypotheses. Results - The results of the study show that people who were familiar with the products were more likely to look at them in advertisements than consumers who were unfamiliar with the products. Also, people who were familiar with the products spent more time looking at them compared to people who were unfamiliar with the products. However, previous exposure to products did not result in faster identification of the products from advertisements.

Etnisk mångfald, en trend eller hygienfaktor? : En kvalitativ studie om etnisk mångfald i svensk reklam / Diversity, a trend or a matter of course? : A qualitative study of ethnic diversity in Swedish marketing

Hamdi, Camilla, Gustavsson, Sofia January 2017 (has links)
Background: Advertising and marketing has increased its role in the society today. Advertisement campaigns which has displayed a broad range and representation of diversity of people has been both embraced but also criticised and in some cases put down. Marketing today does not reflect the Swedish society of today correctly. As the heterogeneity is increasing, the customers in Sweden are commanding new more diversified marketing and advertisement which calls for renewed marketing and communication strategies. The empirical data was mostly collected through interviews with employees at advertisement bureau Forsman & Bodenfors as well as with employees at the chosen clients. The advertisement campaigns have been analysed in detail to reinforce the empirical data. Conclusion: This study states that there are many ways for how companies portray ethnical diversity in their marketing and advertising. The motives behind using ethnical diversity are many. Brand building, to reflect reality, to create strong liens to clients and customers and to take a social responsibility are factors that in all cases dominates increased profitability. The impact of complimentary advertising strategies on sponsored search advertisement

Van der Linde, Etienne 12 May 2012 (has links)
The aim of this research was to find relationships between complimentary advertising strategies and sponsored search advertisement (SSA) in order to formulate a model to maximise return on investment achieved from online sponsored search advertisements. The results obtained from statistical analyses of SSA campaign data showed that complimentary online and offline advertisement campaigns have various different correlations to impressions, click-through rates, number of pages visited, time spent visiting a website, bounce rate of visitors to the website, cost-per-click and number of new registrations per keyword search from visitors gained through SSA campaigns. In particular, online display advertisements were found to have a slight positive correlation with new registrations made by customers gained through a simultaneously running SSA campaign. Offline radio adverts were found to have a positive correlation with impressions gained for SSA campaigns, whilst at the same time showing a negative correlation with the number of pages viewed by website visitors obtained through the SSA campaign. Some negative correlations to SSA campaign performance were also found, with the time visitors spent viewing the website decreasing, their bounce rate increasing and the cost-per-clicks for the keywords in the SSA campaign also increasing during periods when offline radio adverts were active. Offline television adverts were found to have a negative correlation with impressions gained for SSA campaigns, as well as the click-through rate for the keywords in these SSA campaigns. Offline television adverts did however also show a negative correlation with the cost-per-clicks for keywords in the SSA campaigns. Finally, a graphical model was developed to illustrate these correlations found between complimentary advertisement campaigns and SSA performance metrics. / Dissertation (MBA)--University of Pretoria, 2012. / Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) / unrestricted

Regulace reklamy v komunitárním právu / Advertisement Regulation in the European Community Law

Novotná, Alžběta January 2007 (has links)
Advertisement plays an important role in the life of companies and it is understandable that there can be advertisements created, which will try to gain benefits for the company in various ways, causing damage to other competitors or to consumers included. A logical reaction is the creation of legal and ethical regulation in order to prevent this. Advertisement regulation exists on national level and in the course of the european integration development also a regulation on the community level has been created, especially in form of directives that have to be incorporated into member states' national legislation. Some of the directives allow the states to preserve stricter provisions, unless they are in conflict with the Treaty establishing the European Community, whereas in others the principle of maximal harmonisation is applied, forbidding stricter regulation. This diploma thesis describes legal regulation in the Czech Republic and the European Union as well as ethical regulation on the domestic and european level. It introduces the most important statutes and directives. One part is completely focused on self-regulation in the area of advertising. The last chapter then outlines possibilities of protection against advertisements that violate the mentioned legal and ethical standards by means of judicial or other authorities and self-regulation.
