Pobuda, Tomáš January 2008 (has links)
Thesis deal with tuning of database Oracle, which is used by digital archive SAFE. In the concrete deal with setting parameters of database. It is divided to three parts. In first part it characterizes factors that influence performance of database. In second part it describes possibilities of tuning and setting Oracle database. In third part it is first introduced digital archive SAFE, after that it is chosen suitable testing tool for workload generation and described test scenarios and last are performed tests and compared results at different database database settings. Goal of thesis is description and trial tuning of Oracle database, which is used by digital archive SAFE. Other goal is test of files inserting into digital archive at different settings (saving to the database, on file system). These goals are achieved by testing tool workload generation and compare response time at different settings. Contribution of this thesis is above all trial of tuning Oracle database, which is used by digital archive SAFE. Story Cloths as a Counter-archive : the Mogalakwena Craft Art Development Foundation Embroidery Project

Van der Merwe, Ria January 2015 (has links)
In South Africa there has been a growing recognition of community craft projects in previously marginalised communities. They are acknowledged for their artistic merit, and for the fact that they serve as a means of economic empowerment for especially black South African women. This study goes beyond this and identifies the embroidered story cloth projects as serving as potential archives for the communities in which they are situated. The embroidered story cloths produced by the Mogalakwena Craft Art Development Foundation (MCADF) are considered as a relevant practical example of the counter-archival discourse in the archival process. This Foundation is situated in a remote area of the Limpopo Province, South Africa, close to the Botswana border. Founded in 1994 in an effort to alleviate poverty and unemployment in this community, this project has grown into a unique archive, which documents various aspects of the women’s everyday life. This project encompasses a number of aspects highlighted by the counter-archival discourse. The embroidered story cloths constitute archival sources that previously would not have been considered part of the conventional nineteenth and twentieth century archive as they involve oral tradition and material craft art practices. Furthermore, the choice of subjects documented by the participants of the MCADF project, which include everyday life situations, as well as rituals and rites of passage, moves the focus of history away from the dated “grand narratives of progress” of the Western world to include the voices from outside the political realm. This aligns with elements of the community archive which have an important role to play in terms of democratising the archival record, decentralising the archives as public institution as well as giving previously or currently marginalised people a voice. In this case it is women who, due to their gender, their inability to express themselves in written form and the previous discriminatory political dispensation in South Africa (apartheid), would not have been included in traditional archives. / Thesis (DPhil)--University of Pretoria, 2015. / tm2015 / Historical and Heritage Studies / DPhil / Unrestricted

This master's dissertation aims at comparing two educational institutionsthrough categories of analysis by analyzing how their school cultures areconstituted within each school. The study's corpus consisted of documents ofthe Escola Isolada Modelo (which is next to Escola Normal Carlos Gomes - Campinas, Brazil) from 1937 to 1940 and Escola Estadual Mista Desdobrada Vargem do Cedro (São Martinho, Santa Catarina) from 1933 to 1944.Therefore, the documents taken from both schools' archives consisted ofresources, being defined here as excerpts of their educational historicalpatrimony. Which are: six (6) Attendance Books, one (1) Enrollment Book andone (1 ) School Registration Book that belong to the Escola Estadual MistaDesdobrada Vargem do Cedro¿s records, and two (2) Attendance Books fromEscola Isolada Modelo¿s records. These documents were used as sources forresearch and were also compared in accordance with the following categories:materiality of sources, student profile and the teacher's marginal writings. Thesedocuments were also taken as object, meaning that the way they wereaccessed and the research conditions were presented in different records. Thecompared study of both educational institutions located in the same countryallowed to understand the multiplicity of school cultures as well as the different subjects' ways of behaving in each school. The concern to show different waysof behaving within the institutions allowed to comprehend the limits of the standardization movement of the institutions at the time. By disclosing theuniqueness of the different schools, it was possible to point out the inventiveness boundaries and the autonomy of different subjects when occupying different school environments / Mestrado / Filosofia e História da Educação / Mestra em Educação

Větrání archivu / Ventilation of the archive

Hudeček, František January 2019 (has links)
Ventilation systems for depositories have certain specifics. Their main objective is to provide safe environment for preserving unique cultural or other valuable objects that are being stored for extensive time periods. The economical aspect of the operation should be taken into ac-count and the ventilation system adjusted accordingly. This project also incorporates ventila-tion of secondary areas. Ventilation system is subsequently assessed in terms of indoor air quality (CFD simulation) and energetic requirements (program TRNSYS). Air quality in depositories is evaluated using age of air parameter. The qualitative and quanti-tative outcomes are obtained. Possible measures are then suggested to improve the air quality. The objective of energy simulation is to evaluate overall energy required for a year of opera-tion of main air handling units. In addition, estimation of energy requirements for heating and cooling are made for the whole building. The results are compared and more simulations are carried out in order to lower overall energy consumption.

Autor a svět textu / Author and the World of text

Šteffl, Jan January 2019 (has links)
In my thesis I focus on common resources of the concept of author in the context of philosophy and literary criticism, mostly in twentieth century. Moreover I look for specifics in particular fields and authors which are specific for them. The first chapter is an introduction to the issue and represents Fichte's concept of author. Next chapter introduces principles of hermeneutics and shows us the function of hermeneutic circle on the background of the text reading theory and understanding. In the third chapter are shown Roman Jakobson and Jan Mukařovský as representatives of structuralism. The first mentioned shows us a diagram of the speaker and the recipient, the second mentioned shows us on a principles of a poet. In the next chapter I introduce post- structuralism and deal with the development of terms like archive and discourse as well as the changing of the role of an author. The last chapter is focused on orality and narrative in the context of an author as a narrator. The world of fiction is also reflected.

An Archive of Poetry: Surviving Settlement, Upholding Feminine Virtue, and Practicing Narrative Discipline in Anne Bradstreet's and Eliza R. Snow's Poetry

Adams, Britta Karen 17 June 2022 (has links)
Settlement is a frequent topic in scholarly conversations about early American literature. From studies about William Bradford's Of Plymouth Plantation to Anne Bradstreet's poetry, settlement is a consistent theme in texts written by early Americans and in scholarship written by experts about early American texts. Settlement is also a major theme in the poetry written by Eliza R. Snow after fleeing with the Latter-day Saints from Missouri and settling in Nauvoo, Illinois. Both Bradstreet and Snow lived through settlement crises, crises that incorporated and exacerbated religious tensions within their communities eventually taking the form of the Antinomian Controversy and the Mormon Succession Crisis of 1844. The poetry left behind by Bradstreet and Snow is often an overlooked archive of historical sources that gives its readers insight into how these women responded to the crises within their communities and how feminine virtue played a role in their settlement crises. In light of this, in this paper I combine recent scholarship that focuses on Mormon settlement with scholarship that complicates the narratives about prominent women in Mormon history to unearth new insights into the lived experiences of Mormon women during settlement crisis. I borrow this move from scholars of early American history who have done this for a long time and have similarly uncovered new discoveries into the women that they study. Given that we now understand things that the Puritans did not fully--namely, that women are complex and that their historical images are often posthumously determined by archives (often controlled by powerful men)--I pay specific attention to the similarities of how settlement affects Puritan and Mormon women, both in their present-tense and in the historical narratives about them. Focusing on the intersection between settlement and women helps us to understand female writers, the way that women endured settlement, and the way that settlement affected the gender and overarching politics of their communities. Most notably, examining this intersection gives scholars insight into the ways that women writers--such as Anne Bradstreet and Eliza R. Snow--discipline their own narratives and leave behind poetical archives in order to be remembered as virtuous and well-behaved women, while the women who did not leave an archive are more susceptible to the narrative control of powerful men over historical archives.

Metodologie tvorby digitálních archivů / Methodology for design of digital archives

Získal, Bohuš January 2011 (has links)
Bohuš Získal Methodology for design of digital archives Summary: This work examines how concepts and recommendations defined within the ISO 14721:2003 standard could be applied to archives in audiovisual industry and how its key components and processes relate to the corresponding structure of real production archives. A basic overview of audiovisual content formats, storage solutions and metadata structures is provided with respect to long time content preservation. The most common standards (international, industry and proprietary ones) specific for this area are discussed within the perspective of inevitable data migration process. As certain types of organisation have their archive deeply integrated in the production process and its functional and organisational parts could not be easily distinguished from the rest of the structure, the various approaches to the complex archive design are evaluated, including a brief introduction to MAM system role and implementation. The data migration to new solutions also means the integration with the existing technologies, where a rather higher level of dependence on commercially available solutions is often involved. As the interoperability standards are not widely adopted yet, some decisions are inevitably tied with previously adopted technologies. Changes in...
