Recreation of Gävle after the Second Fire

Ljunggren, Lukas January 2007 (has links)
In 1776, the City of Gävle was immersed in a blazing fire, almost the whole city burned down and buildings that managed to survived have either been demolished or replaced by another one. To provide an actual view of Gävle from 1800-century is difficult due to the three different fires. A three-dimensional visualization model presents the entire city between 1776-1815 as it might have appeared. Archival images and information was provided from Länsmusem Gävleborg, Fogden, City library of Gävle and the City Archive. The three-dimensional model of the entire city is presented in a QuickTime movie format for viewing.

Diring, Ellinor January 2014 (has links)
This report describes the process of developing a user-friendly and responsive archive website. The website is a Hi-fi prototype and was created for the company JG Communications, to serve as an archive for their customers’ style guidelines. To create this website I have used HTML5 and CSS3 to make it responsive for various computer screens. I have also used PHP and some JavaScript to make some of the functions and Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to make design elements for the prototype. The main purpose with this project was to come up with a design and most of all to come up with how the site should function. I have done user tests combined with interviews, content analysis on JG Communications website, and applied various design methods when building and designing the website.

Between performances, texts, and editions : The Changeling

Williams, Nora Jean January 2016 (has links)
This thesis is about the ways in which Thomas Middleton and William Rowley’s play The Changeling has been edited, performed, and archived in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. It proposes a more integrated way of looking at the histories of performances and texts than is usually employed by the institutions of Shakespeare and early modern studies. Crucially, it suggests that documented archival remains of performance should be admitted as textual witnesses of a play’s history, and given equal status with academic, scholarly editions. I argue that—despite at least a century of arguments to the contrary—performance is still considered secondary to text, and that this relationship needs to become more balanced, particularly since the canon has begun to expand and early modern plays beyond Shakespeare have begun to see more stage time in recent years. In addition, I begin to theorise social media as archives of performance, and begin to suggest ways forward for archiving the performance of early modern drama in the digital turn. In order to support these arguments, I offer a series of twentieth- and twenty-first-century productions of The Changeling as case studies. Through these case studies, I seek to make connections between The Changeling as text, The Changeling as performance, and the various other texts and performances that it has interacted with throughout its life since 1961. In presenting analyses of these texts and performances side-by-side, within the same history, I aim to show the interdependency of these two usually separated strands of early modern studies and make a case for greater integration of the two in both editorial, historiographical, and performance practices.

Preservação do patrimônio documental em acervos micrográficos um enfoque no Laboratório de Reprografia da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria / Preservation of documental heritage in microfilm collections: foccusing the Laboratory of Reproduction of the Federal University of Santa Maria

Perlin, Camila Anibale 09 December 2013 (has links)
This research focuses on the microfilm collection preservation, in the reproduction laboratory of the University of Santa Maria which is part of the documentary heritage of the institution. The intention was to answer the question referring to the appropriate way of keeping safely the microfilm collection of the Laboratory Reproduction, maintaining the preserved information. The exposition to constant climatic changes, characteristic of the region, associated to dirtiness and micro-organisms can cause damage which leads to losing the stored information. The objective general was study the requirements for the correct storing of microforms, aiming the preservation and durability of the micrographic collection of the Federal University of Santa Maria, and ending with the elaboration of Manual with recommendations for the preservation of the micrographic collection. The research was defined as applicable and the approach was qualitative, which included the descriptive analysis of the study of the environment. The first step was the organization of a bibliographic study of the works referring to the subject, along with a study of the history of the Federal University of Santa Maria and all the departments involved with the reproduction laboratory. The research was structured in phases, the first had the objective to investigate the adopted practice in the laboratory referring the keeping and preservation of the cultural heritage, the data resulted into a diagnosis of the Safety Archive of the reproduction laboratory, in which it was possible to identify the preservation needs of the microform cultural heritage. On the second phase of the research, samples of the microfilms and the environment of the Safety Archive were collected. During the research some species of fungi were found in the storage cultural heritage, which is risky for the institution employees and, as well, to the microfilms, in case there are no immediate measures to solve the problem. On the third phase the temperature variation and relative humidity of the Safety Archive were followed. From the obtained date graphics were structured to indicate the different climatic variation in the microfilm storage room, therefore, the use of equipment that guarantees a stable climatic control is necessary, otherwise, the cultural heritage will be vulnerable to fungi proliferation. The research showed that the collection of microforms of the Laboratory Reproduction is contributing some actions to ensure the preservation of information. By studying and knowing the main measures which must be adopted for the preservation it was possible to elaborate the development and the structuration of a Recommendation Manual for the preservation of the micrographic heritage, contributing for the safeguarded of the documental patrimony of the Federal University Of Santa Maria.

O discurso sobre a morte em arquivos institucionais do final do século XIX / Discourse about death in institutional archives from the end of the XIX century

Pedrazzi, Fernanda Kieling 14 December 2015 (has links)
This study aimed to investigate discourse about death in institutional archives (re)visited to collect sources of research. The theoretical question revolves around discourse about . Theories and concepts from the area Linguistics, Letters and Arts and basic area Linguistics make up the theoretical basis, with an emphasis on the French School of Discourse Analysis. The area of Applied Social Sciences , basic area Information Sciences, is also contemplated in order to account for issues of archiving and information. Springing from these disparate fields, Archiving and Discourse Analysis, we attempted to read and analyze the selected materiality, by creating a temporal and chronological framework, with a focus on the city of Santa Maria, RS, and taking the year 1896 as a reference for the deaths. Data collected consisted of: 1) death certificates produced/received by the Municipal Intendance and kept at the Municipal Historical Archive of Santa Maria; 2) death records recorded at the Cathedral and kept in the archdiocese archive; and 3) death records made at the Registry Office. Two hundred and seventy-five reports of death were found for 1896, with the Municipal Intendance of Santa Maria (167), having the greatest number, followed by the catholic cathedral (64) and, finally, the Registry Office of Santa Maria (44). A comparison among the three sets was performed, to obtain a total of 197 names of different people. The names of the deceased with reports common to all three entities made up the empirical corpus (12 deaths and respective reports). The study considered death notices, news articles and personal accounts or tributes published in the newspaper regarding these deaths extracted from a local newspaper that circulated during the year studied, as well as a postmortem inventory, the only one of its kind found, which made part of the Public Archive of the State of Rio Grande do Sul. Using discourse analysis, extracts from the discursive field were used to demonstrate the five domains of discourse about death, elected from their incidence: medical, religious, judicial, journalistic and private discourse, proposed in this dissertation as a new category. Discursive sequences that made up the corpus were analyzed within these discourses about death. The perception of the meaning of words within language use and the relation between historicity and discourse are constants in the corpus.

Acervo do Departamento de Arquivo Geral: preservação da memória da UFSM / General Archive Department collection: preservation of the memory of UFSM

Flores, Débora 17 August 2011 (has links)
This research addresses the preservation of UFSM s documental heritage, which is stored on the collection of the General Archive Department (Departamento de Arquivo Geral (DAG)), and aims at contributing for the permanent safeguard of these documents by means of the adoption of a Manual of Preservation of Documents. We also consider the risks the professionals of the archive face by having direct contact with the documents, because exposure to some types of fungi can trigger damages to health, seriously affecting their life quality. It is an applied research, of qualitative approach, which aims at developing knowledge that enables comprehension and transformation of reality regarding the topic. The work has been structured into four phases: the first phase consists of data collection by means of a diagnosis of the collection situation. The diagnosis was carried out based on direct observation, and, with the obtained data, it was possible to detect the needs for a better preservation of the documental collection under custody of DAG. At this phase, we could identify the need to implement the Manual, and the need of applying the measurements which would prevent the deterioration of UFSM s documental heritage. On the second phase, the monitoring of temperature and humidity was carried out, resulting in graphs which indicate great climate variation in the documents storing rooms. Thus, actions should be applied for the use of equipments which ensure effective climate control, preventing damage to the documents. For the verification of the presence of fungi in the collection, different species were found, both in the documents which form the collection, as in the documents recoiled to DAG. Implementation of hygiene procedures is vital in the documentation. In face of the biological risks, we have tried to analyze the damages to the health of the professionals which work at the archive. This resulted in identification of allergic reactions, which, although not grave, compromise the life quality of the professionals in the long term. Thus, the use of personal protective equipment is indispensable for handling the documents of the collection. The research showed that much has already been done by DAG to protect the collection. However, only through study and concrete knowledge of the main measures that must be adopted it was possible to organize such measures, which, systematically gathered through the Manual of Preservation of Documents, will proportionate a better safeguarding of the Documental Heritage of UFSM.

Schäfer, Axel 29 July 2016 (has links) (PDF)
In the year 1751, after the first mining operations were nationalized, mining was continuously practiced in the Saarland coal basin until the year 2012. Since the late 18th century, the miners in the Saar region created many kinds of maps, to document the geology, the mineral deposit and all mining activities. Several thousand mining maps on very difficult drawing papers are keeping in many cupboards with much more drawers. After the extraction all the documents from the individual mines were merged into one site with the aim to create a dedicated room, were the documents can remain with an artful computer-system to locate the accomodated mining maps. Only by this way an optimal use of the archive arias for operating shedules or historical researches is henceforth possible. This article describes the planning phase from the basic evaluation about the development of a storage strategy, the civil engineering planning, the construction implementation as well as the conversion of the mining maps from the previous storage to the new location by using a special computerized mapfinder-system.

Kommuner & Facebook : Hur hanteras regelverket kring allmänna handlingar?

A. Hedqvist, Anja January 2010 (has links)
The aim of this one-year master thesis in archival science was to examine how municipalities take regulations concerning public records into account when they use Facebook. Another aim was to examine the involvement of archivists, registrars or similar staff in the management of the regulations. Since Swedish archival theory and practice has a close connection to the application of these regulations, such an examination was hopefully going to reveal tendencies of importance for archival science. The method used to collect information was a web questionnaire and the result was based on answers from 21 municipalities with an official Facebook page. The questionnaire showed that six of the municipalities regarded documents originating from their Facebook page as public records. Three did not, and a large group had not yet decided how to treat these documents. Only three municipalities did archive documents from Facebook. The involvement of archivists, registrars and similar personnel was generally very small, even though regulations concerning public records had more often been taken into account in the municipalities that had informed this personnel about the use of an official Facebook page. The difference in management between the municipalities was together with the demand for national guiding principles indicating difficulties in applying the regulations to social medias like Facebook. The fact that most of the municipalities that had taken the regulations into account had come to the conclusion that Facebook generated public records, together with the fact that national guiding principles presented during the work with this thesis had the same interpretation, indicated that documents originating from Facebook will be a part of Swedish public records in the future. The difference in management and the demand for guidance also indicated a need for better division of responsibilities and a more active approach in the future, to ensure that the regulations concerning public records are taken into account early and correctly when authorities starts to use new medias.

Archives – a resource for school?

Andersson, Johanna January 2017 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the cooperation of the archive and the school. The theoretical framework is socio-cultural perspective. The main method used is qualitative interviews with employees at the archives. I have studied three different archives which, in cooperation with the school, conduct archival education. In addition to the interviews I have participated in two observations. The research found that there was a great interest in the school to participate in the archive's educational work. Factors such as stress for the teachers and too few archive educational resources adversely affect the archive education mission. The views look different, but the goal is to present archives to the students and provide a positive experience. The fact that archives are to be regarded as an obvious place of visit, was the democratic right of citizens, and that information is being discussed what the archives want to convey to archive education. The archival material used by the archives has a clear link with the curricula and places great emphasis on teaching source criticism.

Implementace digitálního archivu v nadnárodní společnosti / Implementation of the digital archive in multinational company

Žižková, Veronika January 2008 (has links)
The goal of this work was to process the problematic of the digital archive -- implementation of the digital archive into the payroll system include completion analysis of effectiveness. A part of this diploma work includes detailed analysis of the effectiveness of the digital archive used in the company with the international activity, from its benefits till its cost that relate with the implementation of the digital archive. In the work it is described the problematic with the implementation itself in praxis, it is explaining the digital archive from the technological aspect in detail, even from the users side. It is described the process of extensive analysis of the digital archive in the company and comparing with the manual archiving of the data, with the help of the multi-criteria decision making. The goal was to find out if the implementation of the digital archive has got such a proofing value and met the expectation of all ADP managers. For the calculation there was used the method the determination of the weight of certain criteria and the levels of realization. The method was used for analyzing of the benefits, analyzing of the cost came from actual measurable units. Then there were used three methods for the comparison of the costs and incomes: creation of the quotient of costs and incomes, the graphical scheme of costs and incomes and transformation of the costs into incomes and defining the value of benefits. This whole process of calculation was repeated twice. In the first part there were used my own experience and knowledge and the weight was chosen by my opinion. Then In the second part there was used a question-form that was given to the German clients.
