Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka om, och i så fall hur, man på ett fruktbart sätt kan göra de kommunala arkiven (och ev. andra arkiv) användbara i ämnet samhällskunskap A på gymnasiet. Detta test sker utifrån ett pedagogiskt undervisningsmaterial, närmare bestämt en portfölj tillsammans med en undervisningsplanering i samhällskunskap på gymnasiet. För denna uppsats har en forskarpraktiserande metod använts. Den används för att kunna uppnå syftet med skapandet av ett pedagogiskt undervisningsmaterial (portföljen) för gymnasieungdomar i samhällskunskap A. Utgångspunkterna för undersökningen är för det fösta att samhällskunskap är idag ett tvärvetenskapligt ämne som t.ex. består av ekonomi och politik och historia, geografi m.m. Den andra är att ingen forskare, enligt min vetskap, tidigare har genomfört ett projekt där kommunarkiven har involverats i samhällkunskap. Däremot använder lärare och forskare arkivinformation inom ämnen såsom historia och geografi. Källorna i undersökningen är läromedlet Reflex A, styrdokumenten och arkivhandlingar från 1878, 1970-2000 och forskning från pedagoger och arkivpedagoger. Denna forskning har legat till grund för den framtagna undervisningsplaneringen samt den pedagogiska portföljen. Arbetet gick ut på att skapa en portfölj med arkivhandlingar som skulle användas i samhällkunskap A. De övergripande målen som ex styrdokumenten visa på att det finns inga direkta konkreta direktiv som sa att läraren inte kunde använda arkivhandlingar. Det står tydligt att eleverna skall ha ett dåtida, nutida och framtida perspektiv och att de skall lära sig använda flera källor samt vara källkritiska. Resultatet är även det som finns i portföljen och är portföljen med dess handbok. Introduceringen av arkiven sker utifrån ett pedagogiskt undervisningsmaterial och en undervisningsplanering. Det krävs emellertid att läraren får den tid för att sammanställa ett fungerande material för användandet av arkiven i undervisningen.

Syftet är att göra en arkivpedagogisk skrift där arkivmaterialen tar oss med på en historiskresa i ett brukssamhälles uppkomst och förändring, och som kan användas i undervisning på högstadiet. Idén kom efter en föreläsning och inspirationen från ett flertal böcker och skrifter som givits ut av arkiv runt om i landet. Val av plats är en central del i arbetet dels för att kunna hitta material men även för igenkänning hos läsaren. Och vad är väl mer passande än den del av centrum där Folkets hus och kommunhuset ligger? Det är också här det mest av materialet hittas, på biblioteket i Folkets hus och på arkivet i Kommunhuset. Bildmaterialet är dock nästan helt från Hammarö hembygdsförening. Det är främst fotografier som hittats men även dokument som styrker det man ser på fotografiet. Resultatet är, som arbetet, tvådelat. Dels en beskrivning av arbetets gång … när, var och hur. Dels en arkivpedagogisk skrift där det i vissa fall går att följa en fastighet från dess första byggnation till dess senaste via rivning och detta i både dokument och bild.

Syftet med vår uppsats är att utreda den pedagogiska potentialen i olika typer av arkiv. Vi undersöker hur och om arkiven kan bli en pedagogisk resurs samt hur arkiven tillgängliggör sig gentemot skolan. Med hjälp av arkivens styrdokument och intervjuer analyserar vi och jämför det pedagogiska arbetet och satsningarna hos arkiven. Begreppet historiemedvetande spelar en central roll i uppsatsen och i undersökningen analyseras och redogörs för hur arkivarierna och arkivpedagogerna ser på begreppet historiemedvetande. Vidare refereras och diskuteras den aktuella debatten kring detta centrala begrepp och dess roll i gällande kursplaner och läroplan. Utifrån vår kvalitativa undersökning har vi funnit att samtliga arkiv har en vilja att bedriva en arkivpedagogisk verksamhet, men för att i längden bedriva en fungerande arkivpedagogisk verksamhet krävs särskilda projektstöd upprättade för ändamålet samt en ökad samverkan mellan arkiven, museerna och biblioteken. För att utveckla samarbetet med skolan föreslås en ökad användning av lärare, efter mönster från Tyskland och Storbritannien, som pedagogisk resurs inom arkivpedagogiken. / The purpose with this thesis is to investigate the potential within archives concerning educational practice. We look at how the archives present themselves and make themselves available towards pupils and teachers. Our analysis is based on interviews using a qualitative method and also policy documents from four different types of archives in Sweden.An important part in this thesis is the concept, historical consciousness. We investigate how educational practice within archives could develop pupils historical consciousness. Our investigation reveals that our chosen archives wants to develop their educational practice towards schools, but to be able to do so they need financial support and increased cooperation between archives, museums and libraries.To develop their cooperation with schools we propose that the archives should employ teachers as a resource for pedagogical purpose.

Abstract Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka hur lokalhistoria kan bedrivas för att möjliggöra att elever utvecklar ett historiemedvetande. I vår studie har vi utgått från två frågeställningar. Vilka faktorer är av vikt för att elever ska utveckla ett historiemedvetande genom mötet med lokalhistoria? Hur ser verksamma SO lärare i grundskolan för åk 4-6 samt kulturarvspedagoger inom museum och arkiv på lokalhistoria som undervisningsområde och samarbetet mellan de olika arenorna? För att svara på frågeställningarna gjorde vi en kvalitativ studie. Metoder som vi använde var inspelade intervjuer och enkäter med öppna frågor. Tidigare forskning, intervjuer med kulturarvspedagoger och lärares deltagande i enkätundersökningar har utgjort grunden för vårt analysarbete. Resultatet av vår studie visar att lokalhistoria som undervisningsområde kan med rätt verktyg bidra till ett ökat historiemedvetande. De slutsatser vi kom fram till är att det krävs olika faktorer för att ett historiemedvetande ska kunna utvecklas genom lokalhistoria vilket kräver en konkretiserad historieundervisning med generösa inslag av primärkällor.

Archives Day is celebrated in Sweden on the second Saturday of November every year since 1998. The aim of this study is to examine how and why Archives Day is celebrated at five archives in the Stockholm region. My empirical material consists mainly of semi-structured interviews with archivists at five archival institutions in the Stockholm region. I have chosen to only interview archivists and not any visitors due to the time con-straints and the scope of the thesis. I have also examined how the goals stated in a government report are carried out in the work with Archives Day. The theoretical framework of the investigation is gathered from educational theory as well as archival theo-ry. For the educational approach I have used John Dewey’s theory of what makes an experience educational to examine whether Archives Day is an educational experience or not. The aspects of archival theory I have chosen concerns the change of the role archives play in a postmodern society. My conclusion is thus twofold. First, I argue that a visit to Archives Day, the way it is celebrated at the ar-chival institutions I have examined, does not constitute an educating experience according to Dewey’s theory. It does, however, have the potential of being an educating experience. Second, I draw the conclusion that the goals behind Archives Day are in line with the general changes of the role of archives in society. Nevertheless, it is not certain that municipal archives have the resources to accomplish these goals. For Archives Day to be a truly successful public awareness campaign for archives, the central organization for Archives Day needs to be bigger and offer more help to the archival institutions. I also argue for further user based research in connection with outreach initiatives in the archival sector. This is a two years master’s thesis in Archival Science.

This thesis focuses on the cooperation of the archive and the school. The theoretical framework is socio-cultural perspective. The main method used is qualitative interviews with employees at the archives. I have studied three different archives which, in cooperation with the school, conduct archival education. In addition to the interviews I have participated in two observations. The research found that there was a great interest in the school to participate in the archive's educational work. Factors such as stress for the teachers and too few archive educational resources adversely affect the archive education mission. The views look different, but the goal is to present archives to the students and provide a positive experience. The fact that archives are to be regarded as an obvious place of visit, was the democratic right of citizens, and that information is being discussed what the archives want to convey to archive education. The archival material used by the archives has a clear link with the curricula and places great emphasis on teaching source criticism.

This master thesis examines the communication strategies of three municipal archives in Stockholm, Uppsala and Gothenburg. These communication strategies are specifically formulated towards the archival sector and the specific archives in question. A reoccurring theme in archival literature focuses on the need of archives to become more visible and up to date in society. Therefore, this master thesis aims to examine how municipal archives work with changing the narrative of “the dusty archive” and reaching out to the public utilising their communication strategies.In two cases, that of Stockholm stadsarkiv and Regionarkivet Gothenburg, professional communicators had been employed to work with the archive's internal and external communication including the formulation of strategic communication policies. Uppsala stadsarkiv on the other hand, had an archivist who oversaw and was in charge of the “communication process”. In interviews with the co-workers from all three archives one primary question was whether the strategies have been successfully implemented in the organisation or not. Following results were found: In some ways the communication strategies have managed to make the archive more attractive for visitors and users - especially in terms of public activities, such as publicly held lectures.Other challenges remain, for example communicating the archives in a way that is generally easy to grasp. The reason for this was described as the municipal archive's duality between being both an information management body and a cultural heritage institution. Archives are still being described as “a hidden gem of information” from an informant's point of view. This indicates that the archives' dual function as being difficult to communicate in a straightforward way. The results show us that all three municipal archives find communicating archival function to be a challenging task. This is a two years master's thesis in Archival science.

To meet history in the archives can give a feeling of contact and closeness to the past. It can awaken a joy and interest for the subject of history. The power of the primary sources in the archives is something that could be used in historical education to not only arouse a joy for a lifelong learning but also for the understanding of the past. In order to make students develop their idea of history they need to encounter and work with primary historical sources. This also aligns with the Swedish curriculum for the subject of history as it says that the history education should give students an insight to historical methods. It also states that students should meet sources and artifacts that reflects human living conditions throughout history. The aim of this study has been to showcase the cooperation between Swedish history teachers in high school and the archives. It also studies the educational value and benefits of that cooperation. Our preconceived idea, and our own experience, has been that a lot of teachers aren't aware of the power of the archives and that the archives aren't aware of the needs that teachers and adolescents have. The study shows that this is partly true, but also highlights the parts of the collaboration that works well. This study has a qualitative approach and its method has been semi-structured interviews with both teachers and the staff of several archives. To find these informants we have used Arkivpedagogiskt Forum, a platform that connects staff in the archives who conduct educational work. The teachers of this study have been selected from our personal connections.  The study’s contribution is twofold. Firstly it provides an insight to the cooperation that exists between archives and teachers today in Sweden. It shows what teachers want from the archives in order to make the cooperation more efficient, as well as the parts of the cooperation that works very well. Secondly, it shows that archives do have an enormous potential in history education to activate and develop  students' historical consciousness through historical empathy and historical thinking.

This thesis focuseses on archives and availability. The general public seem to have trouble finding their way tothe actual archives even though most archival institutions are easily accessed and provide interesting material.Maybe it is because archives are generally not as well known as other institutions within the ALM-area, eventhough the need to know ones history and identity is considered mainstream. Whether or not history takes off atthe archives is a complex question to answer. Archives, however, certanly contribute to our ideas of earlier timesand the concept of history.I have examined what archives do to make these contributions known to the general public and to whatextent they make their material avaliable. I have also looked into archival pedagogy since it is often connected toavaliability. Furhtermore, since the educational system of Sweden has decided that pupils should understand the correct historical sources archives and their material are now an important part of the historical education. This thesis focuses on the archival work and does not examine how the educational system of Sweden discusess regarding collaboration with archives.This is a two year master´s thesis.
