THE IMPORTANCE OF FORMULATING A UNIFORM STRUCTURE FOR NON-FINANCIAL REPORTING: A quantitative study based on the evidence from the automotive industry.

Sarker, Asif, Mike-Hana Fongang, Mundi January 2021 (has links)
Nowadays, sustainability has become a well-known and popular topic which has drawn the attention of many people worldwide. To fulfill their responsibility towards sustainability, the business world is shifting from an accounting-based accountability to an accountability-based accounting. Every renowned organization publishes their non- financial report, but quality of these reports is questionable. For the lack of a uniform structure, non-financial reports have become too complicated for some of the stakeholders to understand. To make things worse, the business entities publish non- financial reports highlighting their positive impacts but hide the negative aspects. However, these issues could not resist the interest of the stakeholders, rather they observe different independent index providers to know about the sustainability. We know non- financial reporting is not about figures rather it is about disclosures. However, it is very difficult to collect information from a non-financial report and compare them among industry peers. Therefore, we intend to examine if it is important to formulate a unique structure for the non-financial reporting.Though non-financial reporting is very different from financial reporting, it is very difficult for the readers to get the real picture of sustainability of any organization. The quality measurement of non-financial reports is a daunting task. To get a clear picture we collected the non-financial information of 12 automobile manufacturing groups from different geographical locations. We also observed 5 annual reports for each company and formulated our own index and conducted a quantitative study to answer our research question. We collected data from non-financial reports of our selected automobile companies to formulate our own index and collected index of these companies from the website of S&P Global. From the non-financial report, we also collected data about the length of the report, number of years compared for performance indicators, and if the report is audited or not. We collected the data about total asset of these companies and their return on asset. With the help of our theoretical framework where we discussed about CSR, stockholder theory, and legitimacy theory and formulated two hypotheses. To answer these hypotheses, we run a regression test to see if the variables used in our study have any predictable relationship or not. Hence we tested our data and concluded that it is important to formulate a unique structure for non-financial reporting.Non-financial reporting has come a long way since its appearance but to go even further and to fulfill the demand of the stakeholders, publishing such reports is not enough. Companies who publish such reports also need to ensure the quality and comparability. Though different organizations have different sustainability challenges, at least non- financial reports of a particular industry should follow a certain structure so that these reports can be compared.

Sustainability and change in the automotive industry : How regulations on environmental sustainability are implemented in companies and leading to change

Richter, Tatjana, Medunic, Anamarija January 2020 (has links)
The general concert towards environmental sustainability has grown over the last few years. Pressure on firms from lawmakers request conformity with new regulations to ensure environmentally sustainable business operations. This study researches the implementation process of environmental sustainability regulations and the influencing factors in the automotive industry with two exploratory case studies on firms in Germany and Croatia. This research reveals the influencing power firms’ have on the policymakers in their regulations design leading to information inequality among competitors. Also, firms’ different management involvement and structure of the implementation process does not indicate the firms’ sustainability strategy. Environmental sustainability strategy can lead to long term benefits, however requires short-term investments, whereas the industry and competition pressurizes the firms on costs, leading to firms facing a choice between short term competitiveness and environmental sustainability. In order to conform with regulations, firms implement change through modifications and adaptation of products through new technologies.

The Digital Transformation of Automotive Businesses: THREE ARTEFACTS TO SUPPORT DIGITAL SERVICE PROVISION AND INNOVATION

Grieger, Marcus 17 April 2019 (has links)
Digitalisation and increasing competitive pressure drive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to switch their focus towards the provision of digital services and open-up towards increased collaboration and customer integration. This shift implies a significant transformational change from product to product-service providers, where OEMs realign themselves within strategic, business and procedural dimensions. Thus, OEMs must manage digital transformation (DT) processes in order to stay competitive and remain adaptable to changing customer demands. However, OEMs aspiring to become participants or leaders in their domain, struggle to initiate activities as there is a lack of applicable instruments that can guide and support them during this process. Compared to the practical importance of DT, empirical studies are not comprehensive. This study proposes three artefacts, validated within case companies that intend to support automotive OEMs in digital service provisioning. Artefact one, a layered conceptual model for a digital automotive ecosystem, was developed by means of 26 expert interviews. It can serve as a useful instrument for decision makers to strategically plan and outline digital ecosystems. Artefact two is a conceptual reference framework for automotive service systems. The artefact was developed based on an extensive literature review, and the mapping of the business model canvas to the service system domain. The artefact intends to assist OEMs in the efficient conception of digital services under consideration of relevant stakeholders and the necessary infrastructures. Finally, artefact three proposes a methodology by which to transform software readiness assessment processes to fit into the agile software development approach with consideration of the existing operational infrastructure. Overall, the findings contribute to the empirical body of knowledge about the digital transformation of manufacturing industries. The results suggest value creation for digital automotive services occurs in networks among interdependent stakeholders in which customers play an integral role during the services’ life-cycle. The findings further indicate the artefacts as being useful instruments, however, success is dependent on the integration and collaboration of all contributing departments.:Table of Contents Bibliographic Description II Acknowledgment III Table of Contents IV List of Figures VI List of Tables VII List of Abbreviations VIII 1 Introduction 1 1.1 Motivation and Problem Statement 1 1.2 Objective and Research Questions 6 1.3 Research Methodology 7 1.4 Contributions 10 1.5 Outline 12 2 Background 13 2.1 From Interdependent Value Creation to Digital Ecosystems 13 2.1.1 Digitalisation Drives Collaboration 13 2.1.2 Pursuing an Ecosystem Strategy 13 2.1.3 Research Gaps and Strategy Formulation Obstacles 20 2.2 From Products to Product-Service Solutions 22 2.2.1 Digital Service Fulfilment Requires Co-Creational Networks 22 2.2.2 Enhancing Business Models with Digital Services 28 2.2.3 Research Gaps and Service Conception Obstacles 30 2.3 From Linear Development to Continuous Innovation 32 2.3.1 Digital Innovation Demands Digital Transformation 32 2.3.2 Assessing Digital Products 36 2.3.3 Research Gaps and Implementation Obstacles 38 3 Artefact 1: Digital Automotive Ecosystems 41 3.1 Meta Data 41 3.2 Summary 42 3.3 Designing a Layered Conceptual Model of a Digital Ecosystem 45 4 Artefact 2: Conceptual Reference Framework 79 4.1 Meta Data 79 4.2 Summary 80 4.3 On the Move Towards Customer-Centric Automotive Business Models 83 5 Artefact 3: Agile Software Readiness Assessment Procedures 121 5.1 Meta Data 121 5.2 Meta Data 122 5.3 Summary 123 5.4 Adding Agility to Software Readiness Assessment Procedures 126 5.5 Continuous Software Readiness Assessments for Agile Development 147 6 Conclusion and Future Work 158 6.1 Contributions 158 6.1.1 Strategic Dimension: Artefact 1 158 6.1.2 Business Dimension: Artefact 2 159 6.1.3 Process Dimension: Artefact 3 161 6.1.4 Synthesis of Contributions 163 6.2 Implications 167 6.2.1 Scientific Implications 167 6.2.2 Managerial Implications 168 6.2.3 Intelligent Parking Service Example (ParkSpotHelp) 171 6.3 Concluding Remarks 174 6.3.1 Threats to Validity 174 6.3.2 Outlook and Future Research Recommendations 174 Appendix VII Bibliography XX Wissenschaftlicher Werdegang XXXVII Selbständigkeitserklärung XXXVIII

Desarrollo de un sistema automático para el proceso de vulcanización de neumáticos Off The Road O.T.R. en la planta Lima Caucho S.A. / Development of an automatic system for the process of vulcanizing tires off the road in the Lima Caucho S.A.

Lara Quispe, Miguel Alfonso 26 September 2019 (has links)
Lima Caucho S.A., is a Peruvian company, immersed in the manufacturing sector and dedicated to the manufacturing of tires for cars, trucks, agricultural and / or mining vehicles. It has numerous machineries in the industrial plant. However, despite being a important company at a global level, it does not escape the fact that technology advances day by day and its equipment or machinery can become obsolete. As part of all this, is the need for this company to carry out an automation Project in the tire vulcanization area. This area has 34 vulcanizing presses of different types, models and characteristics. Of these 34 presses, 4 presses vulcanize agricultural tires; it should be emphasized that the tires are 75 "and 85" in diameter, and used for agricultural trucks. Having the need to introduce them to this new automatic system, which implies the use of a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), which makes it difficult in a big way, which is why a less technical and more engineering work is necessary, since it does not only consist of simply programming a PLC, but rather a design has to be done to control of all the variables for the correct functioning. The objective of this project is to automate this type of presses, to the new automatic supervision and control system, for which it is not only necessary the total automation of the machine, but also the design of a temperature controller, which is the main obstacle to complete the modernization of this project. / Tesis

New Business Models and Ambidextrous Strategies : The Automotive Industry in a State of Flux

Cantú Torres, José Humberto, Dolch, Marcel January 2021 (has links)
Background Given the physical nature of the product, the automotive industry remains as one of the few industries yet to be digitized. And the transformation is happening mostly through the innovation of the Business Model. The industry is seeing a threat of new entrants from outside of the traditional automotive industry. Moreover, established players are considering new business models to serve the changing market. This is where the balance of exploiting current business models and exploring new ones comes into play. Purpose The purpose of our study is to present a framework showing how an ambidextrous approach helps in the challenge of innovating a business model or introduce new business models in the automotive industry. Moreover, we will provide insights into the challenges the business model innovation provides to this industry and propose potential implications for managers. The research will be based on the theory of business model innovation, ambidextrous organizations, and ambidexterity in business models. Method To achieve the purpose of the study, semi-structured interviews were conducted, followed by a grounded analysis. For this study, a literature review was used that generated a theoretical framework. Conclusion Our results and analysis of the interviews are presented in a framework that is based on three identified concepts: Customer and Market, Structures within the Organization, and Ability to Innovate. These three are interrelated in our framework and help us answer the initial research question proposed.
