[en] CONSTRAINING MAJORANA CP PHASE IN PRECISION ERA OF COSMOLOGY AND DOUBLE BETA DECAY EXPERIMENT / [pt] VINCULANDO A FASE DE VIOLAÇÃO DE CP DE NEUTRINOS DE MAJORANA NA ERA DE PRECISÃO DA COSMOLOGIA E DOS EXPERIMENTOS DE DUPLO DECAIMENTO BETA

04 November 2021 (has links)
[en] Nowdays we are in a precision epoch where is possible to get accurately the parameters that involve the neutrino physics, however, even that in the future the uncertainties on those parameters will decrease enormously, perhaps still will continue some open question, for instance, what is the absolute mass of neutrinos? What is the hierarchy of the masses? Are the neutrinos Majorana or Dirac? And if they were Majorana, what would be the value of the CP phases? In this work, we studying the detectability of the CP phase through experiments of neutrino beta decay, neutrinoless double beta decay and cosmology. In order to quantify the sensitivity to the Majorana phase we use the CP exlusion fraction, it is a fraction of region of the CP phase, that is excluded for a given set of assumed input parameters. The experiments sensitivity is account when it is varied since the pessimistic to optimistic one, assumptions of the experimental erros, the uncertainty of nuclear matrix elements and all the scenarios are considering with the Normal and Inverted hierarchies. We find that a Majorana phase, the called a21 can be constrained strongly by excluded 10 − 50 per cent of phase space at 3o CL for the lowest neutrino mass of 0.1 eV. The characteristic features of the sensitivity to a21, such as dependences on the other phase a31 are addressed. We also arise the question of whether the uncertainties of nuclear matrix elements could be constrined be consistancy of such measurements.

Teves, Walter José da Costa 17 December 2003 (has links)
In this thesis, we have done two kind of phenomenological studies through a detailed analysis of present and future terrestrial experiments. Development of luminescent bolometers and light detectors for neutrinoless double beta decay search / Développement de bolomètres luminescents et détecteurs de lumière pour la recherche de la double désintégration bêta sans émission de neutrinos

Tenconi, Margherita 28 September 2015 (has links)
Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay (0νDBD) is regarded as an important key in the decryption of some hot astroparticle and cosmological enigmas: it violates lepton number by two units and it is currently the only known practical way to shed light on the neutrino nature, being possible only in case of a Majorana neutrino, identical to its antiparticle. Moreover, the 0νDBD rate is sensitive to the effective neutrino mass, so it would be useful to define the absolute neutrino mass scale and hierarchy. The experimental footprint of 0νDBD is a monochromatic peak in the sum energy spectrum of the two emitted electrons. Next-generation experiments aim at reaching a sensitivity on the effective neutrino mass of the order of ten meV, corresponding to half lives in the range 10²⁷-10²⁸ years: this means to be able to gather, at least, a few hundred kilograms of 0νDBD candidate isotope source and to efficiently scrutinize it with very sensitive detectors. Meanwhile, background levels in the energy region of interest of the 0νDBD signal should be lowered to less than one count/ton/y. Cryogenic luminescent bolometers are a promising technique for 0νDBD search, as they feature excellent energy resolutions, high detection efficiency, flexibility in the material choice and easy scalability to large modular experiments; furthermore, the simultaneous read-out of heat and light signals produced by particle interactions provides an active discrimination method against the dangerous α contaminations, populating the 0νDBD energy region of several interesting candidate isotopes. The work presented in this dissertation was carried out in the context of the LUMINEU project: a pilot experiment focused on zinc molybdate scintillating bolometers, to define the strategies for the construction of a next-generation experiment based on the 0νDBD candidate ¹⁰⁰Mo. In view of the construction of a large 0νDBD experiment, involving hundreds of modules, systematic cryogenic measurements have to be performed to ensure good performance and reproducibility of the detectors and their components. Aboveground facilities are preferred for routinary tests because of their easier accessibility: most of the tests were carried out at CSNSM, where I also worked on the setup of a new cryogenic apparatus, based on the Pulse-Tube technology. One part of my thesis work saw the study of bolometric light detectors based on germanium absorbers and Neutron Transmutation Doped (NTD) thermometers: a proper design was developed in view of LUMINEU and the devices were characterized in terms of sensitivity, energy resolution, baseline noise and reproducibility. The results are compatible with a 0νDBD search final experiment, though this detector configuration is very sensitive to vibrational noise. In addition, the feasibility of bolometric light detectors based on NTD thermometers and Neganov-Luke amplification was investigated, demonstrating that this technique can actually boost the signal-to-noise gain to a level compatible with event discrimination based on Cherenkov light detection. Another part of my work dealt with the test of scintillating zinc molybdate bolometers of mass up to ~300 g, coupled to the aforementioned light detectors and operated both in the aboveground facilities at CSNSM and underground at Modane, in the cryostat of the EDELWEISS Dark Matter search experiment. Good event discrimination capability was achieved: thanks to double read-out of heat and light, it is possible to identify α particles, the threatening background for 0νDBD interests, against β/γ interactions. The results proved the possibility to pre-characterize aboveground detectors of mass close to the one of a final experiment module, despite the high cosmic rays rates. Besides, the measurements opened the way to the mutual compatibility of the underground setup, conceived for another kind of experiment, and LUMINEU 0νDBD search detectors.

Développement d'un refroidisseur-regroupeur quadripolaire radiofréquence pour PIPERADE et mesure de la demi-vie de 17F / Developpement of a radio-frequency quadrupole cooler and buncher for PIPERADE and half-life measurement of 17F

Guerin, Hugo 11 December 2014 (has links)
The future SPIRAL2 installation of GANIL, at Caen, will produce large range of exotic nuclei with very high intensities. Nevertheless, these beams could not be used directly for some high precision studies and will have to be purified first. To achieve this work, teams of CENBG, MPIK (Heidelberg), CSNSM, LPC Caen, GANIL and IPNO develop a double Penning trap in the framework of the PIPERADE project. Because this double Penning-trap needs some shaping work (reduction of transverse emittance and bunching), the CENBG team is in charge of the realisation of a radio-frequency quadrupole cooler and buncher : the GPIB. This developpement work was the main part of my PhD work, especially for the simulations of this cooler buncher whose results lead us to find a new bunching method and allowed us to approve its mechanical design. We also have an ion source to be able to test both GPIB and Penning trap and I had to reassemble it, to understand it and to characterise it before these tests could be achieved. In a second time I also took part to the analysis of the E622S experiment which aimed to determined precisely the 17F half-life. This work did not lead to a more precise determination of this half-life but we now have some doubts concerning the 2 last measurements and their way to determine the contamination rate of their radioactive samples.

Effect of shell closure N = 50 and N = 82 on the structure of very neutron-rich nuclei produced at ALTO. Measurements of neutron emission probabilities and half lives of nuclei at astrophysical r-processes path

Testov, Dmitry 17 January 2014 (has links) (PDF)
Nowadays we are all witnesses of a competition of facilities at different countries to study unknown regions of neutron rich nuclei. Much efforts are devoted to understand the role of neutron excess and its influence on nuclei in vicinity of closed neutron shells. One of the means to investigate nuclear structure is in beta-decay. Once a nucleus is proven to exist, its beta-decay properties, such as T1/2 and Pn (probability of beta-delayed neutron emission), which are relatively easy to measure, can provide the first hints on the nuclear structure. On the r-process site, "waiting points"(nuclei on closed neutron shells) has significant effects on the r-process dynamics and the abundance distribution. The actual side and the astrophysical conditions under which the nuclear synthesis takes place are still not certainly known - since r-process nuclei are difficult to produce and to study experimentally, input parameters for r-process calculations are mostly derived from theoretical models. As it has been seen lately, most of the theories have failed to reproduce newly measured data sets near shell closures. With new experimental data already (or shortly) available theoretical approaches can be adjusted. Since a beta-delayed neutron emission becomes strong if not dominating decaying channel for nuclei far stability, a proper neutron detector to study their properties is indispensable. To conduct the appropriate investigations, in the frame of the present thesis, in close collaboration with JINR (Dubna) a new detection system was constructed. It consists of 80 ³He-filled counters, 4π beta detector and a HPGe in order to measure simultaneously beta, gamma, neutron activity. The development of such a detection system system, currently installed at ALTO ISOL facility, was the first objective of the thesis. Then, during two experimental campaigns conducted to investigate beta decay properties of neutron rich nuclei in the neighborhood of N=50, N=82 the workability of the newly produced detection system was proven. In the vicinity of ⁷⁸Ni: half- lives and probability of beta-delayed neutron emission for ⁸º,⁸²,⁸³,⁸⁴Ga were measured. We were the first to observe the structure of ⁸¹,⁸² Ge via beta neutron gated gamma spectra. Thanks to the neutron detection channel the absolute intensities of beta decay were proposed for the first time. In the vicinity of ¹³²Sn the half lives of ¹²³Ag, ¹²⁴Ag, ¹²⁵Ag and ¹²⁷In, ¹²⁸In was measured. For the first time the beta delayed neutron emission was observed for ¹²⁶Cd, its Pn value also measured. Based on the data obtained we come to the conclusion that to figure out the relative contribution of allowed and forbidden decays more theoretical efforts should be done crossing the N=50 shell. Whereas in the vicinity of N=82 shell more experimental challenge are required.
