Determining strategic employee communication in the South African ParliamentMgoduka, Zolani January 2015 (has links)
Thesis (MTech (Public Relations Management))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2015. / This study was conducted to determine the extent to which strategic employee communication existed in Parliament of the Republic of South Africa during the period of transition. Its objectives were to test the communication skills of the parliamentary supervisors in various divisions; to investigate communication satisfaction amongst employees; to establish communication channels to get the message through, and to discover how often feedback was provided. This study sought to achieve the research objectives by using a quantitative research methodology in order to measure the level of communication skills. The researcher collected data using questionnaires as a measuring instrument in order to determine the levels of communication satisfaction. Questionnaires were distributed to 45 participants in all divisions irrespective of race, gender or age.
The results of the study revealed that communication at Parliament needed to be aligned. It was also revealed that employees and supervisors were not familiar with the vision of the institution. It was recommended that Parliament needed to conduct SWOT analysis before bringing about any changes. Employees should be provided with communication skills training. Managers should pay serious attention to internal communication. There should be constant feedback regarding progress when a process of change is embarked upon. It was also recommended that Parliament, as the highest democratic institution in the country, should lead in putting strategic internal communication in place in order to set an example for other institutions.

A potencialidade dos quadrinhos na educação corporativa: gibis impressos, digitais e Graphic Novels / The potential of comics in corporate education: comic books, digital books and Graphic Novels.Thiago Seiji Takahashi 08 October 2015 (has links)
Comics were defined as sequential art and commonly associated as a communication vehicle aimed for entertainment. However some comics are used to transmit information, give support to education programs and help to improve the knowledge building about specific themes related to the human and professional development. The main objective of this project was to analyze the potential use of comics in corporate education in Brazil, focused in São Paulo state. To reach this object, this study described some basic definitions of comics, their characteristics and some important events occurred during its historical evolution. Moreover, a bibliography survey of comics productions and publications of corporate comics in São Paulo was also done and the main authors and publishers of this segment were identified. To investigate the potential use of comics in corporate education, this study was supported by two premises: the first one referred to the recognition of comics as an autonomous language and the second was to verify the existence of specialized professionals who support the production of corporate comics in Brazil. In addition, methods of production, distribution and utilization of comics in some corporate education programs had been also checked. The main hypothesis of this study was the strategic use of comics can contribute positively to improve the communication activities in the corporate environment. The results showed that comics had been used by important corporations like SEBRAE, ABNT, Metrô SP, Petrobrás, Telefonica, O Boticário, SENAI, Votorantim and others. In Brazil, there is a regular and well-organized production of corporate comics which is made by studios, authors and specialized publishers. These productions have occurred at least since 1994. The majority of these comics were distributed within companies or in restricted environments. On the other hand, there were also some publications which were distributed and sold in bookstores published in Graphic Novel format. Interestingly, some corporate comics had been published in digital media, as it was verified in the case of covenant between SEBRAE and ABNT. According to the results, the potential use of comics in corporate education was associated mainly to assist the processes of awareness, understanding and memorization of ideas and information. The strategic application of comics through comic strips and cartoons also facilitated the comprehension of ideas or concepts showed in classes/lectures and in texts with specific contents that were difficult to understand. The use of comics also showed the effect of breaking with excessive formality in communication between instructors and employees in some companies, resulting in the increase of employee\'s interests in the activities of the education programs. Furthermore, some elements used in the comics like the design of characters and graphic humor also showed a great potential as elements to assist the development of corporate education programs.

Memória do efêmero: comunicação e memória no processo de institucionalização de grupos de teatro / Ephemeral Memory: communication and memory in the process of institutionalization of theater groupsMateus Furlanetto de Oliveira 22 September 2011 (has links)
This study seeks to analyse the context of theater groups and their publics/audiences, their specifities and how Communication and Public Relations actions can cause and influence their relationship. Based primarily on memory products and projects of theater groups, it is possible to identify the potential of communication that contributes to the formation and strengthening of the institutional image of these groups. / The main aim of this research is to verify the hypothesis according to which the terminologies related to Communication appear among symbolic struggles. The top ten writers of Business Communication mentioned by Google Scholar have their discursive structures analysed. This project is based on a theory in which identities are conceived of as social constructions conducted by power struggles, which are also present in the classification. All the interviews carried out in depth with the researchers have been submitted to Content Analysis, as conceived by Bardin and to Critical Discourse Analysis, a technique used by Krieg-Planque. Focus groups have also been used to analyse the conceptions of lecturers and Communication professionals who work in Juiz de Fora. They have discussed to what extent they perceive symbolic struggles among the writers and how much the variety of terminologies can have an impact on their daily routine.

A data protection methodology to preserve critical information from the possible threat of information lossSchwartzel, Taryn 03 October 2011 (has links)
M.Tech. / Information is a company’s greatest asset that is continually under threat from human error, technological failure, natural disasters and other external factors. These threats need to be identified and quantified and their relevant protection techniques need to be deployed. This research will allow businesses to ascertain which of these data protection strategies to embrace and deploy, thereby highlighting the balance between cost and value for their business needs. Every commercial enterprise should understand the business value of their data and realise that protecting this data is of utmost importance. However, company data often resides on different mediums, in different locations and implementing a data protection strategy is not always cost effective in terms of the cost of storage mediums and protection methods. The challenges that businesses face is trying to distinguish between mission-critical data from other business data, excluding any non-business or invaluable data that resides on their systems. Thus a cost-effective data protection strategy can be implemented according to the different values of business data. This research provides a model to enable an organisation to: · Utilise the model as a framework or guideline in determining a strategy for protection, storage, retrieval and preservation of business critical data. · Define the data protection strategy to meet the organisation’s business requirements. · Define a cost effective data protection solution that encompasses protection, storage, retrieval and preservation of business critical data. · Make strategic decisions based on an array of best practices to ensure mission-critical data is protected accordingly. iii · Draw a conclusion between the costs of implementing these solutions against the real business value of the data that it protects.

Information protection in the digital banking environmentRedlinghuis, André Jacques 01 August 2012 (has links)
M.A. / The evolution of the Internet has led to the establishment of various value-adding products and services such as Internet banking (IB). Internet banking has changed the formal banking landscape forever. Some may argue that Internet banking has positively affected the lives of many, through providing services in a more convenient, efficient and effective manner, 365 days a year. However, the growth of the Internet has lead to the increase of various Information Technology (IT) problems and challenges. Today, individuals and organisations are faced with an increasing number of attacks via computer and Internet viruses, phishing scams and Internet hackers. Individuals and organisations must place greater emphasis on ensuring that their financial well-being is protected. The investment in adequate software and hardware has become critical to conduct financial transactions securely via the Internet. The level of security awareness should also be increased and established at various levels through comprehensive educational programmes. Extensive Internet banking awareness campaigns have been launched, but the level to which these campaigns are successful is uncertain. The main focus of this dissertation is to understand Internet banking customers’ perceptions on information protection when using Internet banking services and products, as various factors influence the perceptions of trust with regards to Internet banking. Trust is formed through a variety of factors from the influence of others on our own beliefs and values, to the experiences gained by using specific technology or processes over a particular period of time. An in-depth literature review forms the basic framework for the dissertation and is followed by an empirical component. The main goal of the literature review is to provide a solid theoretical framework and basis from which to conduct the empirical research. Chapters 2 to 4 delve into the evolution and development of the Internet and provide a perspective on the South African banking landscape. The various challenges the Internet banking domain is faced with, is explored, and the various opportunities that exist are extensively discussed. Trust, the major factor influencing the adoption of Internet banking services and products, is explored, and the factors that shape and diminish trust are discussed. The empirical study consisted of a close-ended questionnaire that was completed by a sample of University of Johannesburg (UJ) alumni. The study included 138 individuals who completed the close-ended questionnaire and the results were analysed by Statistical Consultation Services (StatCon), a statistical research unit within UJ. The results indicate that more should be done to ensure that individuals and businesses are well-versed on issues pertaining to Internet banking security and safety. The results further highlight that the quality of most of the individuals’ relationships with their formal bank branch diminished due to Internet banking. An interesting finding was that 80.7% of the respondents indicated that they would make use of Internet banking services and products, even though they are aware of fraudulent activities that take place via this Internet medium. The research findings provide financial institutions with valuable guidelines on how to plan and implement effective and efficient Internet banking education and awareness strategies.

Die kommunikasie van kommersialisering aan swart vakbondlede van 'n divisie van TransnetRoodt, Marco 20 May 2014 (has links)
D. Litt. et Phil. / The white paper on privatisation and deregulation in the Republic of South Africa, was tabled in 1987. This paper outlined a policy for the possible privatisation of state-owned enterprise. Generally this step was favourably met by "Big Business" and a number of political players, but rejected and resisted by the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU). This phenomena led to the central assumption of this study. It was assumed that the rejection of privatisation (or manifestations thereof, such as commercialisation) by COSATU, would not necessarily be indicative of the cognitions and attitudes which labour union employee members, hold of privatisation/commercialisation. The purpose of this study was to explore this assumption. This assumption was to be researched among a sample of official members of the South African Railway and Harbours Workers Union (SARHWU); an affiliate of COSATU. A further purpose was to explore the influence which an official communication action, (aimed at the employees of a commercialised parastatal), may have had on the cognition and attitude of the sample. The aim was to draw from these findings to formulate directives for the internal strategic communication management of commercialisation to black SARHWU members. To achieve this purpose, the concept privatisation and commercialisation were conceptualised, and fundamental differences between the two concepts highlighted. An extensive "theoretical study was undertaken to identify the communication principles on which the communication of innovation (change) are based. The concepts of privatisation/commercialisation and the principles of the communication of innovation, were integrated into a framework for the formulation of a communication strategy and strategic communication plan for commercialisation.

Previous research has been conducted to try to explain the relationship between stress and focus for the use of different platforms for work communication. On the other hand, during a pandemic there is a lot that separates everyday life from how it was before the pandemic began and working from home was not as obvious as it is today. Applications whose number of daily users has skyrocketed can also account for a perceived stress for a user - how does this affect individuals’ ability to focus on the application? A survey was created and published for two weeks using previous research that examined the links be- tween stress and focus on social media. The study was conducted by collecting data from various forums related to relevant applications, where it is discovered that stress has a weak but significant effect on distractions outside applications and on distractions within applications. The results show that a perceived distraction outside the application can for 22% be explained by stress and within the application can for 16.6% be explained by stress. Results and the similarities between social media and platforms for work commu- nication are compared and discussed based on the presented theory and related research.
