The aim of this work is to analyze the effects of the psychiatric amendment from the proposition of public politics on adopting assisting strategies of communitarian treatment. The changes in the clinical treatment for the insertion of insanity in the everyday life produces effects on the insane patient, as well as insanity causes effects on the society. The relations that arise from this purpose were studied through ethnography developed at the Center for Psycho-Social Care (CAPS) Dr. Carlos Pereira da Costa, at the city of Santos Dumont, focusing on the main activities of the service, what permitted the observing of the emerging tensions. These tensions are evident in the relationships between the professionals from CAPS and the patients in their activities and extended to the community. From the analysis of the relationships between the agents in this scenario, observing pertinent aspects as health integrality, connection, and the notion of person and modern person, it’s possible to conclude that besides the effort to relocate insanity in the community living, the requirements originated by the normalization of conducts and by rationality are obstacles to the advance of the psychiatric amendment.

Psychoanalytic Chemical Dependency Approaches

Marilia Vieira Marques 11 June 2015 (has links)
This work, which has its institutional origins on the work and observations I developed at the Psychosocial Attention Center Alcohol and Drugs (CAPS AD) clinic and aims at supporting clinical work, reflects on the aspects of the psychic functioning of the drug addict, hypotheses on the development of a child drug addict and ways the psychic aspects observed repeat in the transference-countertransference relationship. Addiction is the object of psychoanalytic investigation since the early theoretical work of Freud, although Freud himself has not conducted specific studies regarding this form of psychological distress. Olievenstein, French reference in the treatment of chemical addictions, found that drug addict subjects do not present one similar type of childhood development, but do have in common one type of trauma: the Broken Mirror Stag a development from the Lacanian Mirror Stage. This hypothesis - the presence of a common trauma - is fundamental for this study since it elucidates the first identificatory moments of an addict. From the experience with CAPS - AD patients and through the the therapeutic relationship, I could learn aspects of the manifestations referred as the broken mirror stage. Through the countertransference and understanding the affection that might originate from this phenomenon, the analyst can give a new shape and support for the manifestation of transference, enabling support for repairing experiences that have not found healing through previous symbolizations. It is precisely the deciphering of these processes that legitimizes and specifies the place of psychoanalysis in institutions like the CAPS -AD

The research presented in this Master dissertation proposes a discourse analysis of enunciations regarding judicial processes involving users of Centro de Atenção Psicossocial (CAPS) Casa dos Amigos, from Cataguases (MG). It is a Social Psychology reasearch that aims at establishing intersections between justice and mental health, with the main purpose of analyzing enunciations of civil and criminal judicial processes involving people users of that CAPS, discussing the subject position assigned to them in the discourse of justice, through dispostifs of knowledge/power. Also, the research aims at investigating how the relation among guardianship, nonimputability and citizenship is processed and to which enunciations a diagnosis of mental disorder can be associated and/or articulated in a judicial process. The method was documental research of judicial processes definitively archived belonging to the city court of Cataguases (MG). The information collected in the documents was analyzed through Michel Foucault’s discourse analyses, that allows us to affirm that legal discourse designates derogatory subjective positions to people with mental disorders, supported by medical knowledge/power dispositifs, psychiatric fundamentally, to enunciate truths about them. The Judiciary Power establishes an ambiguous game of protection/subjugation with people with mental disorders, either through legislation or through the enunciations of the operators of law. Docilization of bodies is a mechanism of the disciplinary power exercised by the Judiciary Power, as well as normalization is a mechanism present in medical-legal examinations. Citizenship, regarding as rights as duties, is denied by the process of interdiction and guardianship and also relativized when semi-inimputability is enacted, due to a mental disorder diagnosis. There is a gap between Civil and Criminal Codes and Civil Procedure and Criminal Procedure Codes and the assumptions of the “Psychiatric Reform”, present in specific legislation, which contributes to such a scenario.

A static scheduler for the computer aided prototyping system: an implementation guide

Janson, Dorothy M. 03 1900 (has links)
Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited / As demand for hard real-time and embedded computer systems increases, a new approach to software development is critical. Software engineers and users would benefit from an automated methodology allowing validation of design specifications or functional requirements early in the development life cycle. A fast, efficient, easy-to-use tool would increase productivity and would enhance user confidence that software would be delivered at less cost and on schedule. The Computer Aided Prototyping System (CAPS) is a conceptualized tool providing these capabilities. This thesis represents a pioneering effort to develop a Static Scheduler for the CAPS Execution Support System using the Ada programming language. The Static Scheduler initially extracts critical operators, timing constraints and precedence relationships from a high-level prototype source program. The Static Scheduler then creates a static schedule for run-time execution, using worst case scenarios, guaranteeing that timing constraints are met. The primary goal of this thesis is to provide the scheduling algorithms and implementation guidelines for the Static Scheduler. Secondary goals are to demonstrate the significance of continued research to telecommunications applications and to demonstrate the feasibility of Ada as the implementation language. / http://archive.org/details/staticschedulerf00jans / Lieutenant, United States Navy

"O Manejo da TransferÃncia nos Centros de AtenÃÃo Psicossocial (CAPS)" / THE HANDLING OF TRANSFERENCE AT THE PSYCHOSOCIAL CARE CENTERS (CAPS): SOME PSYCHOANALYTICAL CONSIDERATIONS.

Reginaldo Rodrigues Dias 10 July 2008 (has links)
FundaÃÃo Cearense de Apoio ao Desenvolvimento Cientifico e TecnolÃgico / This work aims to investigate the handling of transference at the psychosocial care centers (CAPS). The references on the health politics that guides this model of attendance show that the psychiatric reform is one of the main sources to understand the CAPS. This service sets a specific form of clinic historically originated from the criticism of the asylum model, and the knowledge of psychiatry. The dynamics of multidisciplinary attendance of CAPS model constitute a privileged subject of reflexion on the changes in mental health nowadays. In the context of this institutional model, the handling of the transference assumes a central role, as it does in private clinics. This should look at the fact indicated by Freud: the lack of recognition of the transference and its prevalence in a negative way in institutions. Considering this, one asks here on the consequences of such prevalence at the CAPS. One had also concluded that the perspectives of the transferencial handling in the CAPS imply, ahead of this, not only the individual care, but also the recognition of the transference before collective activities realised normally in the work team. More than a technique would be the psychoanalytical ethics that it would make possible the handling of the transference that appears immersed in the devices of the CAPS.

Behavior and analysis of pile caps with poor anchorage details

Sorentino, Anthony William 20 March 2012 (has links)
Pile caps are structural elements used to transmit loads from structural columns into pile groups. A pile cap is generally constructed of reinforced concrete and contains only minimal flexural reinforcing steel. Using modern design methods, the anchorage of the flexural steel may limit the design capacity of existing pile caps. To develop new data on performance of existing pile caps with poorly detailed flexural reinforcing steel, four pile cap specimens were constructed and tested. The specimens were full-size representations of in-situ pile caps used in a mid-rise hospital building. Materials used to construct the specimens were selected to represent those of the in-situ pile caps. Tests were conducted until failure or the maximum capacity of the hydraulic loading system was achieved. Design methods were used to compare the predicted design strength with the measured experimental strength of the specimens. Based on the observed experimental response, specimens exhibited either two-way punching shear or one-way shear failure modes. Widespread yielding and little relative slip of the embedded reinforcing steel were observed. The modern design methods were sometimes conservative and sometimes unconservative in predicting the strength of the specimens. / Graduation date: 2012

Environmental and genetic strategies to improve carotenoids and quality in watermelon

Bang, Hae Jeen 25 April 2007 (has links)
The evaluation of environmental and genotypic effects on fruit physical and chemical characteristics enables assessment of the feasibility of selecting diploid and/or triploid cultivars for either specific or more diverse locations. Isolation and characterization of genes encoding enzymes in the carotenoid biosynthetic pathway provides fundamental genetic information which can facilitate breeding of watermelon cultivars having desirable flesh colors and enhanced beneficial carotenoids. For the environmental studies, the effects of deficit irrigation on lycopene content, total soluble solids, firmness, and yield of diploid and triploid watermelon were evaluated in different locations and growing seasons. Irrigation regimes were 1.0 evapotranspiration (ET), 0.75 ET, and 0.5 ET. To investigate if there is a consistent response in cultivars across diverse locations, studies were conducted in three distinct Texas regions. Deficit irrigation reduced total marketable yield, and increased the yield of small fruits. Location and irrigation regimes had major influences on yield. Soluble solids content increased with deficit irrigation at 0.5 ET in triploids, but not in diploids. Flesh firmness also increased in triploids compared to diploids. Lycopene content increased with maturity at all irrigation regimes and cultivars. This work confirms that deficit irrigation directly reduces yield, but does not reduce lycopene and fruit quality of the triploids used in this study. From the genetic studies, a total of eight genes encoding enzymes in the carotenoid biosynthetic pathway were isolated and characterized. Two members of the phytoene synthase (PSY) gene family were identified; PSY-A was expressed in all type of tissues, but PSY-B transcript was detected only in ovary, leaf, and root tissues. Gene expression of carotenoid isomerase (CRTISO) was not detected in salmon yellow. A color inheritance study of watermelon flesh indicated that a single gene might determine color difference between canary yellow and red without an inhibitory effect. A cleaved amplified polymorphic sequence (CAPS) marker developed from the SNP marker tagging two different lycopene β-cyclase (LCYB) alleles cosegregated perfectly with color phenotypes. It was concluded that color determination may be due to a reduced activity of LCYB enzyme in red, whereby a phenylalanine is conserved among canary yellow and valine is conserved among red watermelon.

Catalyst loaded porous membranes for environmental applications : Smart Membranes

Ren, Bin January 2007 (has links)

This project involves the fabrication and testing of microporous, polymer membranes designed to remove minute amounts of toxic air pollutants such as formaldehyde from air streams. The hypothesis to be tested is that active, the silver contained within the porous polymer membranes results in high formaldehyde retention.

Monolayers consist of different sizes of sPS particles are assembled first on the silicon wafers by spin coating method and convective assembly method, respectively. Then each kind of monolayer with one dimension of sPS particles is deposited with a nanometer scaled silver thin film with a bench top metal evaporator. The porous membranes are produced by assembly of close-packed colloidal crystals of silver capped polystyrene template particles and subsequent infiltration with polyurethane prepolymer. The prepolymer is cured by UV exposure. The sPS particles are removed from the particle polymer membrane by treatment with organic solvents resulting in the formation of inverse opal structures. Silver does not dissolve in the organic solvents and cannot leave the pores due to the small size of connecting holes in an inverse opal. All the monolayers, cylindrical colloidal crystals and microcapillaries after infiltration of polyurethane had been characterized by optical microscope, and the porous membranes had been characterized by SEM.

The application of porous membranes with silver caps is to absorb formaldehyde in the air, while in fact the silver caps are oxidized and become Ag2O, which will initiate a gas-phase/solid reaction with formaldehyde. In the future, TiO2 will be applied together with Ag2O, since TiO2 is another good absorbent for formaldehyde
