Bilderböcker utifrån ett genusperspektiv / Picture books from a gender perspective

Aydogan, Jennifer January 2013 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to analyze picture books from a gender perspective. The books are found in a book box that the libraries send out to preschools. This study is based on the following questions: How are boys and girls portrayed in picture books? Do the picture books encourage or discourage the principles of equality found in the Curriculum for the Pre-School and the equality work conducted in the preschools? I performed a qualitative text and picture analysis of 12 picture books. I used Maria Nikolajeva and Kajsa Wahlströms schedule of typical masculine and feminine qualities and activities when analysing the picture books. I reached the conclusion that in the vast majority of the books boys and girls are portrayed with qualities that are both typical masculine and feminine. Only a few books in the book box portray the boys and girls characters in a stereotype manner. Hence, as a conclusion, the analyzed picture books discourage the traditional stereotype gender patterns and therefore encourage the principles of equality as described in the Curriculum for the Pres-School.

Structure in Book VI of The faerie queene.

Robertson, Margaret Jane McCallum. January 1966 (has links)
The first three cantos of the Book of Courtesy discover to us the realm of social relations, where, as in the sphere of Justice, a strict system of gradation operates. lndeed, Spenser, in the early part of Book VI, sustains much of the atmosphere of the "stonie" age of Book V, and Calidore's initial adventures illustrate the abuses to which a hierarchical order of society lends itself in the fallen world. The poet's artistic exploration of these abuses traces their origins to the mean and malicious impulses of the human mind, which are, in a larger context, manifestations of the cosmic evil that disrupts the quests of all the hero-knights of The Faerie Queene. Projektas "Puslapiai iš dienoraščio" / Project "Pages from a Diary"

Škėrytė, Inga 28 September 2010 (has links)
A book is not only the pages of paper written with letters, words. It is a source of information, which protects us against evanescence. And it does not matter whether it is a fictile plate or a sheet of papyrus, or a gold-plated paper, it is itself artistic. Continuing and maintaining its existence, we only may cherish it and give it another character by changing and improving its typography, not allowing vanishing. However, a nice book is more noticeable and is more often taken into hands. The design of a book depends on several aspects. First of all – on the author, his/her stylistics. Secondly – on the nature of the material presented in the book. Thirdly - on financial possibilities and selection of printing technologies. Having harmonised all the details, having integrated everything into a harmonious completeness, even a simple book will look nicely and interesting. The title of the diploma paper “Puslapiai iš dienoraščio“ (Pages from a Diary) speaks for itself. The created book is the collection of various moments, moods, emotions, feelings. It is made of three chapters. In the first chapter, there are the closest people with their minds. In the second, there are casual creations, poems, ideas. And in conclusion, the third chapter designated to the most favourite activity – photography.

PARENTS' PERCEPTIONS OF AND GOALS FOR ALPHABET BOOKS

Nowak, Sarah 23 August 2011 (has links)
This study examined parents’ goals for reading ABC books with their children and their perceptions of page features. Factor analysis of a questionnaire answered by 225 parents of junior and senior kindergarten students revealed four goals for reading alphabet books. In order of importance as rated by parents the goals were: Learning to Read, Enjoyment and Bonding, Learning from Books, and Soothe the Child. Maternal education, number of ABC books owned and ABC book reading frequency were related to parents’ goals. When viewing ABC pages, parents rated pages with little text, simple illustrations and letter sound-word consistency as more appropriate for fulfilling purposes related to learning to decode than pages with a lot of text, complex illustrations, and letter sound-word violations. Findings highlight that parents’ perceptions of which alphabet book page features are more appropriate for decoding purposes are congruent with previous research and experts’ advice. / SSHRC

VD och styrelsesammansättning : En studie av hur ledande befattningshavares karaktäristika påverkar bolagets värde

Hognesius, Erik, Myhrberg, Amanda January 2013 (has links)

Violence for a Peaceful End: Rhetorical Violence, Fundamentalist Eschatology, and the Interpretive Tradition of Revelation

Waters, Tommi Karin 01 May 2015 (has links)
With the rise of extremist fundamentalist groups, such as ISIS, it is important to note similar happenings in other traditions. This thesis traces the interpretive tradition of the Book of Revelation, from its composition in 90 C.E. through the dispensationalist usage of it by John Nelson Darby in the 19th century, and how its modern use by American Christian fundamentalist groups leads to rhetorical violence, including feelings of marginalization and societal targeting, and creation of insider/outsider dynamics with those outside the tradition. While rhetorical violence—language and behaviors that harm others and that occur so regularly that they often become routinized and habitual—does not directly involve killing and enacting of physical violence, it can lead to it. This thesis concludes that the instances of rhetorical violence occurring in mainstream American Christian fundamentalism, such as in Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins’ Left Behind series and the author’s ethnographic case study of a church in Bowling Green, Kentucky, are problematic because of the possibility for physical violence.

The "Root of Civil Conversion": Redefining Courtesy in Book VI of the Faerie Queene

Golden, Michelle 07 February 2007 (has links)
Book Six of The Faerie Queene deals with the complexities of courtesy in a socially changing world. Calidore, the protagonist of Book Six, sets out to defeat the Blatant Beast, the chief enemy of courtesy, but abandons his quest midway through the book in order to live the shepherds’ life. Despite the ethical ambiguity associated with Calidore’s abandoning his quest, this pastoral setting should enable him to deepen his understanding of the nature and practice of courtesy. However, Calidore is unable to grow, and the poet essentially gives up on his own poetic quest.

However, this speech was originally delivered by Robert Welch in December of 1958.The analysis examines the purpose and organization of The Blue Book speech, and the use of logical, factual, and non-factual arguments. An attempt is also made to point out fallacies in arguments, weaknesses in organization, multiplicity of purposes, and unethical techniques and factual discrepancies.

Acceptans av e-boken : Studenters uppfattning och användning av e-boken / E-book acceptance : Students' perception and use of e-book

Ebervik, Maria January 2014 (has links)
The ever-evolving information technology gives users more opportunities, but also put higher demands on them. The digital agenda of the state and society clarifies the objectives and effects academic libraries’ development. E-books influence the development of organizational, economic, legal and political perspectives.   At the University Library in Gävle work is ongoing. The process is controlled by the acquisition policy which makes it clear that e-books should be purchased if possible. By offering e-books including textbooks it expands the availability for student demands. It is one of University Libraries fundamental tasks.   The curiosity about how this work is received by students is the purpose of this thesis and addresses the questions concerning what affects students' acceptance, perception, attitude and usage of e-books in studies at the University of Gävle?   Through an online questionnaire based on a theoretical foundation developed to be used in tests of new information technology, Technology Acceptance Model, students' perceptions of e-books is mapped. Important variables are perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use which influence the attitude, the intention to use and actual use.   The thesis concluded that students accept e-books as a supplement to printed books. The factor students’ value as most important is availability and that it is easy to find. The main goal of students' reading is to gain access to required literature of the course and perceived usefulness of e-books is primarily to its being available which affects studying and learning.
