A Global Working Place : a case study of IKEA

Beijerstam, Emma, Berglund, Johanna January 2010 (has links)
It is difficult to generalize the interconnection of the three themes when using a qualitative method. But the analysis made for each theme and conclusion is both interesting and informative. Throughout the thesis focus will be on the three cross-cutting themes that constitute our purpose. These themes are: Globalization, Expansion and Corporate Culture, and we will look into their interconnection. Focus will be on how IKEA handles external changes, changes due to globalization and expansion, and how these issues affect the corporate culture of IKEA. Everything will then be compiled in chapter six, where we also created a model to demonstrate our own conclusions.

Abstract Authors:   Ekman, Felix 890924                Henriksson, Richard 880325 Tutor:    <img src="file:///page3image1648" />   Prof. Anders Pehrsson Examiner: Ass. Prof. Sarah Philipson Title:         Explanatory Factors of Perceived Expansion Barriers Introduction: A characteristic of the twenty first century business environment is the increased globalisation. Due to the globalisation, it has become necessary for organizations to be involved in international business, and the globalisation of the marketplace in general has increased the export. When expanding to international markets, companies might face some obstacles and barriers, which makes it an important topic in the research field of international marketing and strategy. Since most research focuses just on the importance of the expansion barriers, it would be of importance to provide empirical evidence on what types of explanatory factors that are associated with firms’ perception of expansion barriers. Purpose: Gain an understanding of different explanatory factors regarding expansion barriers for companies’ expansion on international markets. Methodology: The research approach was quantitative with mainly primary data, which was collected through a questionnaire distributed through e-mail. The sample frame was Swedish companies that exporting goods to Norway, Poland, Russia and/or the Baltic region. A total of 157 completed questionnaires, response rate of 20%, were collected and was the foundation for the analysis and results. Conclusion: The explanatory factors that are associated with the perception of expansion barriers were; Geographical and Cultural distances, Market experience and Institutional collaborations. The fourth explanatory factor, intermediating strategy, has in this study no association to the perception of the barriers. Keywords: Expansion Barriers, Explanatory Factors, International Marketing Strategy.

Dynamic Modeling and Cascaded Control for a Multi-Evaporator Supermarket Refrigeration System

Gupta, Ankush 1986- 14 March 2013 (has links)
The survey from US Department of Energy showed that about one-third of energy consumption in US is due to air conditioning and refrigeration systems. This significant usage of electricity in the HVAC industry has prompted researchers to develop dynamic models for the HVAC components, which leads to implementation of better control and optimization techniques. In this research, efforts are made to model a multi-evaporator system. A novel dynamic modeling technique is proposed based on moving boundary method, which can be generalized for any number of evaporators in a vapor compression cycle. The models were validated experimentally on a commercial supermarket refrigeration unit. Simulation results showed that the models capture the major dynamics of the system in both the steady state and transient external disturbances. Furthermore the use of MEMS (microelectromechanical) based Silicon Expansion Valves (SEVs) have reportedly shown power savings as compared to the Thermal Expansion Valves (TEVs). Experimental tests were conducted on a supermarket refrigeration unit fitted with the MEMS valves to explain the cause of these potential energy savings. In this study an advanced cascaded control algorithm was also designed to control the MEMS valves. The performance of the cascaded control architecture was compared with the standard Thermal Expansion Valves (TEVs) and a commercially available Microstaq (MS) Superheat Controller (SHC). The results reveal that the significant efficiency gains derived on the SEVs are due to better superheat regulation, tighter superheat control and superior cooling effects in shorter time period which reduces the total run-time of the compressor. It was also observed that the duty cycle was least for the cascaded control algorithm. The reduction in duty cycle indicates early shut-off for the compressor resulting in maximum power savings for the cascaded control, followed by the Microstaq controller and then the Thermal Expansion Valves.

Expansion, strategi och kunskap : En studie av svenska tillverkande företags lokala expansion i USA.

Pehrsson, Tobias, Svanberg, Daniel January 2013 (has links)

Design, Analysis and Applications of Hybrid CORDIC Processor Architectures

Lee, Cheng-Han 31 August 2010 (has links)
In this thesis, we propose different CORDIC architectures which solve the problems of long-latency in traditional pipeline CORDIC and the large-area cost in table-based CORDIC. The original table-based CORDIC can be divided into two stages, coarse stage and fine stage. We also propose the three-stage architectures, composed of traditional pipeline CORDIC, Rom/Multiplier architecture and linear approximation. Detailed analysis and estimation in area and latency of these different two-stage and three-stage architectures with different bit accuracy are given in order to determine the best architecture design for a particular precision. Finally, we choose one of the architectures to implement, compare the results, and show its applications.

A Keyword-Based Association Rule Mining Method for Personal Document Query

Tseng, Chien-Ming 29 August 2003 (has links)
Because of the flourishing growth of Internet and IT there are too much information surround us today. We have limited attention but unlimited information. So almost all people today face a novel problem¡X Information Overload. It means our precious resource¡X attention, which is not enough to be used to digest any information that we touch. This problem also exists in Literature Digital Libraries. In today, any Literature Digital Library may collect over one million literatures and documents. Hence a well searching or recommendation mechanism is needful for users. But the traditional ones are not good enough for users. Their searching results may need users to spend more effort to select for users¡¦ true requirement. So this study tries to propose a new personal document recommendation mechanism to solve this problem. This mechanism use keyword-based association rule mining method to find association rules between documents. Then according to these rules and user¡¦s history preference, the mechanism recommend documents for user that they really want. After some evaluations, we prove this study¡¦s mechanism actually solve partial information overload problem. And it has good performance on both ¡§Precision¡¨ and ¡§Recall¡¨ indices.

The study in Perceptions of Knowledge Transfer Channel- with the Example of e-Learning Environment

Liu, Chung-Cheng 27 July 2005 (has links)
ABSTRACT One of the most important issues in Knowledge Management is ¡§knowledge transfer¡¨ and ¡§knowledge share¡¨. The knowledge transfer in organization needs some carriers and medias, and that is one of the factors to influence knowledge management performance. Base on the issue, this reaserch wil study the importance of media richness perception and it¡¦s influence factor from system effective perspective. This study develops based on the channel expansion theory (Carlson and Zmud,1994) and social influence (Fulk et al., 1990) . Four experiences of constructs in channel expansion theory were theexperience with the channel, experience with the messaging topic, experience with the organizational context, and experience with communication coparicipants. And, we will survey the e-learning environment in the NSYSU as our study sample. An empirical survey methodology is applied to test the research model and hypotheses proposed in this study. Five out of seven hypotheses are validated in our research model with Path Analysis. The research result reveals that the social influence dimension has the most impact on the perception of channel; on the other hand, experience with the channel and communication partner also result validates. Keywords: knowledge management, channel expansion theory, information systems effectiveness
