Panorama da produção de mobiliário residencial em madeira no Brasil / Overview of production of residential furniture made out of wood in Brazil

Ana Frieda Ávila Nossack 09 April 2014 (has links)
The branch of industry for the production of residential furniture made out of wood and derivatives was restructured on the last two decades, in the 90\'s through the widening of international trade, and from 2000 on, through the growth of the internal market. The purpose of this work is to present an overview of this production in Brazil, nowadays targeted to the internal market, and identify its productive basis, the supply of inputs and raw materials, production itself and sale. An attempt was made to follow the branch\'s dynamics, and to seek and localize the development and appropriation of innovative practices along the whole process. The investigations revealed: the current productive paradigm based on the generalized use of reconstituted wood (mainly medium density fiberboard - MDF, and medium density particleboard - MDP); the criteria for product differentiation according to social strata and the interaction between the agents involved in the productive process. There was also a concern in locating historically these recent changes undergone in the branch.

Martinelli, Raquel 24 March 2005 (has links)
The plan of national urbanization of the beginning of century XX, segregated diverse segments of society, culminating with the formation process of the belt peripheries without infrastructure. A century later, we are witnesses of the evolution of urban and social exclusion process. Today only proletarian politics of habitation aren t enough, but life human beings urge action in the direction to try to revert conditions sub. Exactly knowing that any initiatives that come to contribute for the habitational deficit reduction are comings well, this work still searchs for the improvement of the conditions of functionality and comfort in the interior of the popular habitations from the study of the furniture alternative that composes them.

How Design Impacts the Social Environment: A Comparison Between Two Pet Cafés in China and the United States

January 2019 (has links)
abstract: This research aims to investigate the social environment in a brand-new type of café, pet café, and to maximum the benefit of this type of cafe. While pet cafés, especially cat cafés, are becoming increasingly common in the United States (U.S.), Asian countries have been in this kind of business since 1998. The most common and popular is the cat café. Even though the owners of cat cafés in the U.S. have learned and imitated the cat café in Asia, the cultural differences and the restrictions resulted in differences in format and design. Interior and furniture design was investigated to afford motivation to people who are pet lovers and can be potential customers. Most of the research about pets illustrates a positive influence on psychological health and social support. On the other hand, a café with pets can be attractive and interactive more than a general café, to offer a recreational activity and a comfortable social environment and therapy from pets. Juxtaposing the cat café in the U.S. against the pet café in China, is explored to investigate the difference between these countries and how they can learn from each other and make improvements to design. Research on what is the difference between the cat café in the U.S. and China are reflected on two parts of outcomes—design and business. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Design 2019

Entasis

Funkquist, John January 2023 (has links)
This report discusses my exam project Entasis through four short essays. Through the project I have investigated and demonstrated how knowledge of and responsiveness to the properties of wood can generate a system for design and interior architecture. Through the project, I have described this process as a formulation of a material language, vocabulary or dialect. The metaphor of the dialect is used to highlight how materials is the language through which design and interior architecture is expressed. The project aims to demonstrate how proficiency in the language of wood makes new expressions - or dialects - possible. One important theme running through the whole work is the concept of invoking design. Through describing the objects I have built as machines, i demonstrate how the properties of wood can be an active part in the genesis of design. Design is generated by the machine through the tension between its parts. The aim of this method is to find designs that cannot be planned and to demonstrate how ideas is not outside the material - they are rather invoked from inside the material. The method is applied on different scales to generate both furniture and architectural elements.   Another important theme is Entasis - a word that during the project has changed meaning from historical curiosity to animating force. Through tensioning objects in various ways I try to demonstrate how objects can be simultaneously constructed and animated. The relation between the properties of the wood used and the non - material expression and atmosphere that the tension generates is demonstrated in an architectural system of long, tensioned pieces of wood used in the exhibition that the project was presented in.  In the ending reflection the relation between material efficiency and aesthetics is discussed. The outcome of the project is both wood - specific constructions and expressions but also general attitudes towards materiality, in the production of interior architecture and design.

A Study of the possibilities to use Laser Engraving to create motifs and décor on contemporary furniture

Skerfving Stål, Linda January 2023 (has links)
This work is a survey about the cabinetmakers possibilities to use laser engraving for personalised décor in furniture making. I have used analog and digital techniques in a way to take control over the end results of the laser engravings that I make from my patterns and motifs. My motifs and patterns are mainly constructed with a digital pen in a sketch program om my computer. Initially, I did a number of technical tests to learn about the different settings so that I later on could use them to my advantage when I created different motifs. After understanding most of the consequences of different settings I began to adapt my motifs with a conscious planning for how I could use the laser engraving settings to control the final result. In some cases, I have also done some after work in the form of pyrographing or Dremel engraving by hand. Much more are to be desired of those results. My conclusion is that the best results I got were when I used the laser engraving to complete my motifs the way visual artists use their brush, which is what I learned during my work. In addition to the practical work, I have also tried to make a theoretical reasoning about decór and ornament historically and where I fit in today.

PIECES : A sense of the past in a furniture for the future

Toijanen, Annika January 2023 (has links)
In pieces I wanted to create a design solution inspired by traditional wooden furnitures. Furnitures, like the kitchen sofa with built in storage and a place to sleep or the lockable free-standing linen cabinet that held hand crafted treasures safe and clean inside. Furnitures that are large in size and can be hard to fit into smaller homes today but that holds a huge sentimental value to the owner and are often handed down through generations as heirlooms.   So what if I could weave in a piece of my own family history into a design solution that can fit in smaller living spaces while still be an attractive choice for larger ones?  Pieces resulted in two wooden cabinets that tell part of my family history through the repetitative, organic shapes that I have implemented into them. They are a tribute to my grandmother Aino and her three year younger sister Hanna and my way of symbolically reclaiming their right to the land, forests and lakes around their childhood home that the two sisters didn´t get to share with their siblings in the inheritance after my great grandparents.  The methods I have used in my research are surveys, workshops, in-depth interviews and my own observations. Major design decisions have been based on the input from my research process with the goal to display two full scale cabinets at Konstfack's spring exhibition in May 2023.

VARTOTOJO INDIVIDUALUMO IR KŪRYBIŠKUMO POREIKIS BALDŲ DIZAINO KONTEKSTE / USER individuality and creativity needs in FURNITURE DESIGN CONTEXT / Индивидуальность USER и творчество НУЖНО мебель Дизайн КОНТЕКСТ

Cimnolonskaitė, Rūta 03 July 2014 (has links)
