The study deals with mechanical characteristic of heterogeneous weld joint. The low carbon steel 22K and austenitic steel have been used as a experimetnal materials. The low carbon steel has special properties in basic condition. The sample has been evaluated in basic condition and after annealation. There have been evaluated impact of annealation proces to structure and mechanical charakteristics in experimental part of study. The particularised analysis of microstructure has been done by pictorial analysis. Mechanical characteristics has been examinated in both conditions by 2 different methods – measurment of microhardness according to Vickers and test of fracture toughness on compact tension specimens.

Vliv cyklického tepelného zpracování na strukturu slitiny TiAl / Effect cyclic heat treatment on structure of TiAl alloy

The subject of this master thesis is focused to the refining of the cast structure of gamma-TiAl–2Nb alloy using cyclic heat treatment and to the analysis of the grain refining mechanism. Structure evolution after applied cycles of heat treatment was characterized using light, laser and electron microscopy and using microhardness tests. Application of five heat treatment cycles during which two phase transformations (eutectoid and alpha-recrystallization reactions) repeatedly took place resulted in refining of the cast columnar structure having the mean grain size 512 microns to fully lamellar structure containing gamma and alpha2 phases having the mean grain size 229 microns. Lamellae thickness of gamma was not changed while the thickness of alpha2 phase decreased, up to 78 nm. Refining of alpha2 phase resulted in the increase of the microhardness by 20 %. The recrystallized cast structure obtained by cyclic heat treatment and the knowledge on the mechanisms of the refining the structure were compared with the literature data and were discussed in order to propose more efficient procedure for refining thermal treatment of cast TiAl alloys.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar in vitro e in situ o potencial erosivo do suco de laranja modificado por cálcio e alguns polímeros alimentares. Este estudo foi dividido em quatro fases. Na primeira, as seguintes substâncias: lactato de cálcio (Ca), goma xantana (XG), hexametafosfato de sódio (HMP), tripolifosfato de sódio (STP), pirofosfato de sódio (PP) e suas combinações, foram adicionadas a um suco de laranja, disponível comercialmente, criando 15 sucos modificados. O suco sem aditivos foi utilizado como controle negativo (C-), e um suco de laranja modificado com cálcio (disponível comercialmente), como controle positivo (C+). Os sucos tiveram o seu potencial erosivo avaliado com o método do pH-stat. A variável resposta foi o volume de titulador necessário para manter o pH dos sucos nos valores iniciais. Após, seis sucos foram selecionados e testados na segunda fase, com um modelo de ciclagem de erosão-remineralização. Na terceira fase, os episódios de erosão e de remineralização foram estudados independentemente. A variável resposta para essas duas fases foi a microdureza de superfície (MDS) para esmalte, e a perfilometria ótica, para esmalte e dentina. Na quarta fase, os sucos Ca, Ca+HMP e HMP, mais os controles, foram testados com um modelo de erosão in situ, crossover, cego, de 5 fases, envolvendo 10 voluntários. Em cada fase, os voluntários inseriam aparelhos palatinos contendo espécimes de esmalte na boca e, após 5min, realizavam os desafios erosivos nos tempos experimentais de 0 (controle), 10, 20 e 30min. Dois espécimes eram aleatoriamente removidos dos aparelhos, após cada tempo. A variável resposta foi a alteração da microdureza de superfície (em %). Antes dos procedimentos clínicos, em cada fase, os voluntários realizaram um teste cego de sabor, onde o suco modificado designado a aquela fase foi comparado cegamente com C-. Na primeira fase, todos os aditivos foram capazes de reduzir o potencial erosivo do suco, com exceção da adição de XG isoladamente. Na segunda fase, não houve perda de estrutura de esmalte detectável quando Ca, HMP e Ca+HMP foram adicionados ao suco; XG, STP e PP apresentaram uma perda de esmalte similar ao grupo C-. Ca+HMP apresentaram a menor redução da MDS, seguido por Ca; todos os outros grupos apresentaram uma redução da MDS similar ao grupo C-. Para dentina, somente Ca+HMP apresentou uma redução na perda de estrutura. Na terceira fase, Ca, HMP e Ca+HMP protegeram contra erosão e nenhum dos compostos interferiu com o processo de remineralização. Na quarta fase, Ca e Ca+HMP reduziram a erosão, sem diferenças significantes entre esses grupos; o HMP não apresentou efeito protetor. 5/10 voluntários notaram uma diferença no sabor de C+, 4/10 para Ca e 2/10 para C-. Conclui-se que, in vitro, tanto o HMP, quanto o Ca, nas concentrações testadas, reduziram a erosão causada pelo suco em esmalte e a combinação desses aditivos aumentou seus efeitos protetores. Two specimens were randomly removed from the appliances, after each challenge period. The reponse variable was the percentage of surface microhardness change. Before the procedures, in each phase, the subjects performed a taste test, where the modified juice assigned to that phase was blindly compared to C-. In first phase, all the additives were able to reduce the erosive potential of the juice, except the addition of XG alone. In the second phase, no detectable enamel loss was observed when Ca, HMP and Ca+HMP were added to the juice; XG, STP and PP had enamel loss similar to C-. Ca+HMP showed the lowest reduction in the surface microhardness, followed by Ca;all the other groups presented a reduction in the surface microhardness similar to C-. For dentin, only Ca+HMP reduced surface loss. In the third phase, Ca, HMP and Ca+HMP protected against erosion; and none of the tested compounds seemed to interfere with the remineralization process. In the fourth phase, Ca and Ca+HMP reduced erosion, with no difference between them. HMP did not show any protective effect. 5/10 subjects noticed a difference in the taste of C+; 4/10 for Ca; and 2 /10 for C-. Alternative welding methods for nitrogen alloyed steel / Alternativa svetsmetoder för kvävelegerat stål

This project explores the feasibility of the solid-state welding method direct-drive friction welding to be used as a joining method for the nitrogen alloyed steel Uddeholm Vanax SuperClean, produced via processes based on powder metallurgy. Vanax SuperClean cannot be welded using fusion welding methods where the base material melts, due to nitrogen escaping the material, resulting in inferior quality welds. The cost of the material motivates the use of Vanax SuperClean for critical parts in applications, combined with a less costly material for the remaining parts, causing alternative joining methods to be examined. Vanax SuperClean is friction welded to itself and to Uddeholm steel types Stavax ESR and UHB 11. Samples are prepared for a number of examinations. Microstructures of the samples are examined using microscopy, microhardness testing is carried out per the Vickers principle, retained austenite is measured using X-ray diffraction and tensile testing of the welded samples is performed. Defect-free welds are produced in all examined samples, showing that the method is suitable for Vanax SuperClean and that no preheating or slow cooling of workpieces are necessary. The possibility of using friction stir welding as a joining method for Vanax SuperClean is discussed. / Detta projekt undersöker möjligheten att använda trycksvetsningsmetoden friktionssvetsning som sammanfogningsmetod för det kvävelegerade pulvermetallurgiskt framställda stålet Uddeholm Vanax SuperClean. Vanax SuperClean kan inte svetsas med smältsvetsmetoder där grundmaterialet smälter, på grund av kvävgasbildning som resulterar i undermåliga svetsfogar. Kostnaden för materialet motiverar användandet av Vanax SuperClean för kritiska delar i applikationer, kombinerat med ett mindre kostsamt material till övriga delar, vilket föranleder undersökning av alternativa sammanfogningsmetoder. Vanax SuperClean friktionssvetsas mot sig själv, såväl som mot Uddeholmsstålen Stavax ESR och UHB 11. Prov tas fram för ett antal undersökningar. Mikrostruktur undersöks med mikroskopi, mikrohårdhetsprovning utförs enligt Vickersprincipen, restaustenitnivåer mäts med röntgendiffraktion och dragprovning utförs. Lyckade svetsfogar fås i alla undersökta prover, vilket visar att svetsmetoden är lämplig för Vanax SuperClean och att varken förvärmning eller långsamt svalnande av arbetsstycken krävs. Möjligheten att använda friktionsomrörningssvetsning som sammanfogningsmetod för Vanax SuperClean diskuteras.

Modifikace povrchu pokročilých hořčíkových slitin povlaky na bázi Ni-P / Advanced Magnesium Alloys Surface Modification by Ni-P Based Coatings

The dissertation thesis deals with the modification of the surface of advanced magnesium alloys with Ni-P based coatings. At the beginning of the theoretical part, the structures of the used magnesium alloys and the influence of individual alloying elements on their properties are characterized. In the following part of the thesis the current knowledge in the field of electroless deposition on metal substrates is summarized. The theoretical part of the thesis is closed with contemporary research study in the field of clarification and determination of possible mechanism of electroless deposition. For the subsequent investigation of the mechanism of electroless deposition on magnesium alloys, it was necessary to characterize the microstructure and composition of individual magnesium alloys in the first phase of the experimental part. The exact composition of elements was determined using glow discharge optical emission spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy with EDS was used for composition of phases of magnesium alloys. Using scanning electron microscopy and detailed elemental analysis of the coated magnesium substrate, it was found that for optimal Ni-P coating deposition on magnesium alloys, acid pickling prior coating is required in a mixture of acetic acid and sodium nitrate. Using the XPS method, it was found that the phosphorus atom in the sodium dihydride-diphosphate reducing agent has a + V charge. 4 At the end of the experimental part scanning electron microscopy and detailed elemental analyses were used for monitoring of the Ni-P particles nucleation and growth in the first 120 seconds of the coating process.

Effect of Antibiotic Pastes on Chemical Structure and Microhardness of Radicular Dentin

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Introduction: Regenerative endodontic therapy in immature teeth with necrotic pulps triggers continued root development, thereby improving the prognosis of these teeth. Disinfection of the canal is accomplished with an intracanal medicament, such as triple antibiotic paste (TAP) composed of metronidazole, ciprofloxacin, and minocycline. A modified triple antibiotic paste (MTAP) that replaces minocycline with clindamycin has recently been suggested to avoid the tooth discoloration and potential demineralization from minocycline. The effect these pastes have on radicular dentin is unknown. Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of two intracanal medicaments used during endodontic regeneration, TAP and MTAP, at concentrations of 1 g/mL and 1 mg/mL, on the microhardness and chemical structure of radicular dentin. Materials and Methods: Roots from extracted, unrestored, non-carious human premolar teeth were sectioned. An antibiotic paste (MTAP or TAP) or sterile water (control) was applied to treatment groups and stored for four weeks in 80-percent humidity at 37 °C. The effect of each paste on the microhardness of radicular dentin was measured using a Vickers Microhardness Tester (n = 17) to take three pretreatment and post-treatment measurements at both 500 µm and 1000 µm from the pulp-dentin interface. The chemical structure was assessed from dentin specimens treated with the same medicaments or sterile water for four weeks. After treatment, three measurements were taken on each specimen using Attenuated Total Reflection Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy to measure the phosphate/amide I ratios of dentin (n = 7). Results: The 1 g/mL of TAP or MTAP and the 1 mg/mL methylcellulose-based TAP caused significant reduction in microhardness of roots compared with untreated control roots at 500 µm and 1000 µm from the pulp-dentin interface. Furthermore, the methylcellulose-based 1 mg/mL TAP and MTAP caused significantly less reduction in microhardness compared with 1 g/mL TAP and MTAP. The 1 g/mL of TAP and DAP caused significantly lower phosphate/amide I ratios compared with other groups. Conclusion: The use of methylcellulose based 1 mg/mL of TAP and MTAP may minimize the reduction in microhardness of roots compared with the currently used 1 g/mL concentration of these antibiotics.
