A comparative discussion on the typology of two nations’ pension policies : In a quest for a flawless pension structure for our seniorsIreen, Mahmuda January 2022 (has links)
The pension systems of Sweden and Singapore are compared in this thesis paper using the most recent developments in welfare-regime analysis. The author examines how the two countries’ policy systems are responding in light of Esping- Anderson’s welfare regime theory because the researcher thinks it will be fascinating and challenging also to compare the pension systems of the aforementioned countries. This paper will be helpful to students and scholars looking for public policy recommendations in the area of pensions for senior citizens. Additionally, the author will provide professionals with references if they need a summary of public pension policy and finance in terms of comparative research studies. The author discovers that both nations’ pension policies are performing adequately though there is some error to solve; also finds there are significant differences between the two nations’ institutional infrastructures. As the Swedish system demonstrates a lower degree of independence and long-term public control over pension policy. Conversely, the Singaporean system has a higher degree of independence and is firmly committed to a free market system.

Did Dutch company pension fund decision-makers step up to the plate? A retrospective reconstruction of decision-making processes during a financial crisis situation within a number of Dutch company pension funds.Slottje, Arie January 2012 (has links)
This study provides a view of the decision-making process of Dutch company pension funds. The success of this research was the exceptional granting of access to four cases. Lack of such access could very well be the reason why research of this nature has not been previously achieved. The financial health of pension funds, expressed by the coverage ratio, showed a decline in 2008. Research has shown that there is a relationship between decision-making processes and outcome. Were the processes appropriate to set up and maintain a sufficient coverage ratio?
A tailor-made conceptual research model has been developed and used as an analysis aid to research the TO BE situation based on legal requirements and factional documents and the AS IS situation based on empirical data. The model made it feasible to shed light on the implementation of good pension fund governance principles and decision-making process, which is a contribution to the current gap in research.
The research showed that there is a relationship between the implementation of pension fund governance principles and appropriate decision-making processes. It also showed that there is a relationship between an appropriate decision-making process and coverage ratio. Both conclusions are not statistically proven due to the lack of the statistical significance, but are qualitative analysed and confirmed in the conducted case studies. It is suggested to use the research model by supervisor or pension funds to establish the mismatch between the implementation of pension fund governance principles and decision-making processes to enhance the quality of decision-making processes and outcome.

The Inflation Sensitivity of the Swedish Pension System : A study on how inflation affects the equality of consumption between Swedish pensionersTorstensson, Moa January 2022 (has links)
The much-debated topic of the pension system together with the currently elevated levels of inflation give rise to the question of how well the pension system is equipped to deal with a prolonged period of inflation. The current system was introduced in the 1990s and since then it has been operating in a period of low and stable inflation. The purpose of this project is therefore to study the inflation sensitivity of the Swedish pension system and the purchasing power of Swedish pensioners. Since the Swedish pension system consists of different parts and each part has a different inflation sensitivity, this allows me to study the inflation sensitivity of some typical cases of pensioners who has their own unique mix of pension income. I measure inflation sensitivity through the concept of equality of consumption, where utility from consumption is derived primarily from the discretionary spending that exceeds necessary expenses for survival such as food and shelter. Through this, I analyse economic inequality as measured by the amount of discretionary spending and evaluate how inflation affects these amounts for different typical cases of pensioners. The data in this study is gathered from official sources such as Pensionsmyndigheten and Statistiska Centralbyrån. I find that the nominal inflation protection provided by the Swedish pension system is high for most theoretical cases. However, inflation erodes real purchasing power for Swedish pensioners, especially for those not eligible for the housing supplement and for those who lack an occupational pension. The basic protection adds inflation protection for pensioners with a relatively low income, while occupational pensions add inflation protection for pensioners with a relatively high income. The findings suggest that the median pensioner is more adversely affected by inflation when compared to other income levels, as measured through discretionary spending.

Český důchodový systém a jeho další vývoj ve srovnání s důchodovými systémy vybraných států Evropské unie / Czech pension system and its further development compared with pension schemes of selected states of the European UnionKUBIŠOVÁ, Barbora January 2012 (has links)
The theme of my diploma thesis is a comparison of the Czech pension system with pension systems of chosen European Union countries. I focus also on planned changes and a further development in the Czech pension system and in chosen states. For the comparison I chose four states ? the Slovak Republic, Poland, Germany and the Great Britain. I chose the Slovak Republic, Poland and Germany because these are states with the pension systems similar to the Czech Republic. On the contrary I selected the Great Britain because its system is very different. The aim of this thesis was to compare pension systems in chosen European Union countries: the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic, Poland, Germany and the Great Britain and to map their further development. The thesis was processed theoretically and it is focused only on the pension that secures a man in the retirement age. The introduction outlines a demographic development, which is one of the factors why there are changes in individual systems. Furthermore, in this thesis there are characterized pension systems of the chosen states. There are mentioned conditions for a participation in the pension schemes, types of retirement pensions and conditions for an entitlement to a pension payment. To outline the development of individual systems, I tried, in the second part of the thesis, to briefly describe pension reforms and current changes that occurred. In all countries a necessary condition for an entitlement to pension payments is to pay a social security insurance that is why I compared amounts of the insurances in individual states, which I further took into account in a discussion. I always compared the Czech Republic with the other states in the discussion. I focused on the comparison of the retirement age, years of the insurance required for the entitlement for the retirement pension, current changes and especially an opt-out system in the Czech Republic which is planned for the next year. I tried to compare the conditions that were during the implementation of this system established in other states and which are planned in this country. I believe that the thesis can be used by a professional and lay public for a better orientation in the legislation of pension systems of the chosen states.

Vliv stárnutí populace na důchodový systém v České republice a Polsku / Consequences of the demographic ageing for the pension system in the Czech Republic and PolandMielniczková, Aneta January 2013 (has links)
Nowadays, what has become a subject of frequent discussions is the demographic trend of rapidly aging population, which significantly influences current pension system. Goal of this dissertation, besides description of relevant legislative development in Czech Republic and Poland, is to introduce theoretically possible parameters of regulation before and after pension reform (2013) assuming that rules for retirement at a particular age are valid. This dissertation works with following parameters: retirement age, replacement ratio and pension insurance tariff. Based on these parameters, three different projections have been created and described theoretically possible regulations of specific parameters of pension system while using following indicators: rate of economic dependency, ratio expenses on pension system : GDP and pension insurance tariff. Důchodové reformy a jejich vliv na rodinný rozpočet / Pension reforms and their impact on family budgetLohonka, Petr January 2010 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the possible options for pension reform in the Czech Republic and their impact on family budgets, both in terms of payments in the economically active age, and then from the amount of pension at retirement age. In the theoretical (methodological) part are several possible scenarios of pension reform chosen from proposals to the Czech Republic and from the pension systems applied abroad too. There are described the main pillars and main differences between them and of course the difference from the current state of pension system in the Czech Republic. The entire chapter is devoted to the current state of pension system, because it is the starting point for each of the reforms. After describing all options of pension reforms in the theoretical (methodological) part, we focus on the practical part. There are described several model participants and for each participant are calculated present payments and future revenues, which depends on the variant of the reform. According to this testing we search for such a pension reform, that would be the best across social and income groups. At the end is this testing evaluated and the results of the entire work interpreted.
