MODELAGEM PARA MENSURAÇÃO DA INOVAÇÃO NO SETOR DE CONSTRUÇÃO NAVAL E OFFSHORE BRASILEIRO / MODELING FOR MEASUREMENT OF INNOVATION IN THE SHIPBUILDING INDUSTRY AND OFFSHORE IN BRAZILDickel, Deise Graziele 14 August 2015 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The oil discoveries in Brazilian pre-salt began a strong mobilization of government and also private companies to the rescue of the shipbuilding industry in the country. With the objective to become the Brazilian industry globally competitive, various government incentives provided growth, expansion and modernization of this industry that already ranks fourth in the ranking of the largest craft producing countries of the world. In this context, despite not being a young industry in Brazil, shipbuilding, especially focused on oil exploration (offshore) proved to be important element for the growth of the economy, creating jobs, developing producing regions and boosting the entire chain productive. Despite the favorable environment in which shipbuilding and offshore industries are, there are still gaps that undermine competitiveness these organizations in the global market, as the skilled labor available, the adequacy of suppliers to their demands and the large need for investment in technology. Thus, this dissertation project aims at proposing a model able to measure the level of innovation in Brazilian shipbuilding and offshore, in the structural and business fields, based on a literature and documentary research on the characteristics of the industry sector, using for both assumptions regarding the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and the concepts of multi-criteria decision aid. The proposed model will be put to test in real companies, returning in its evaluation phase an index that represents the competitive performance of each industry evaluated, thus allowing comparison and discussion of the results. Subsequently, will be proposed recommendations able to leverage the innovation of those who submit the most unsatisfactory levels, thus demonstrating the relevance of modeling to increase the sector's competitiveness against the scenario that presents itself.

[en] APPLYING A COST TO SERVE MODEL IN A PETROLEUM COMPANY / [pt] APLICAÇÃO DE UM MODELO DO CUSTO PARA SERVIR EM UMA EMPRESA DE PETRÓLEOLILIAN VILELA BORGES DE MIRANDA 17 February 2017 (has links)
[en] Currently, there is a highly competitive market, which suggests that companies need to conform to this competition by optimizing their processes, principally aimed at reducing their costs. Historically, the cost management of a company has always had an accounting focus, primarily for tax compliance and tax requirements. But, this kind of costs visualization does not offer facilities to the manager act in process improvement nor supports operational decisions, whereas aggregates operational information and allocates indirect costs randomly. As the improvement of management costs becomes necessary, new methodologies
of cost allocation appeared, from which the ABC (Activity Based Costing) Method, which proposes to allocate indirect costs by activity, will be emphasized in this work. Resulting from this method, we can check the profitability of customers through the Cost to Serve, that after the allocation of costs by activities, it is linked to the object of analysis, which, in this case, would be the client. Thus, this work proposes the implementation of a model for measuring the Cost to Serve in the supply chain of Petrobras, a Brazilian oil company that is considered one of the ten largest companies in the world. As in most part of the companies, the practice of cost management at Petrobras does not allow, for example, managers to have an overview of the operational failures of processes, as well as which customers are more profitable or which are the more costly routes. Some cost indicators are monitored, but these do not enable these types of analysis. Thereat, it was defined metrics for measuring the costs, as well as modeled an analysis tool to measure the Cost to Serve. Some simplifications were established to become viable the implementation and some points were presented about using an existing tool for the model and the development, by the company itself, of a completely customized solution. The work ends with some suggestions for the implementation of the tool as well as suggestions for further development and deployment around the subject.

Pilotní implementace Business Intelligence v obchodní firmě / Pilot implementation of Business Intelligence in a retail companySavka, Ján January 2017 (has links)
The thesis focuses on implementation of Business Intelligence in a small retail company. The aim of the thesis is to design a pilot Business Intelligence solution to support management activities in Lintea, s. r. o. The company is part of Slovak lingerie and underwear retail market since 2004. Business performance measurement is not effectively supported in the company. Rise in the quality level of management activities is the main benefit of the proposed implementation which is achieved by delivering previously inaccessible or laboriously accessible information in an appropriate form. Proposed solution substantially simplifies, accelerates and improves management and decision making activities in the company. Thesis has two parts: theoretical and practical. Theoretical part has two chapters devoted to performance management and BI. Chapter about performance management presents wider aspects of using BI in companies and introduces the Balanced Scorecard method. Chapter about Business Intelligence defines BI, explains its principles, components and basic analytic method of BI - the dimensional modelling which is then applied in the practical part. The theoretical part ends with the description of current situation in the BI market. The practical part starts with the introduction of the company Lintea, s. r. o. followed by the description of its current state and proposal of the business performance measures based on the Balanced Scorecard method. Second chapter of the practical part contains the proposed Business Intelligence solution itself. Individual steps of the Business Intelligence design process are: analysis of prerequisites and requirements, analysis of data sources, dimensional modelling, ETL design, multidimensional data structures design and finally presentation layer design.

An industrial engineering perspective of business intelligenceConradie, Pieter Jacobus 17 May 2005 (has links)
In this thesis the candidate explores the apparent gaps between strategy development and strategy implementation (the strategy alignment question), and between business end-user needs and the suppliers of information technology (IT) related products and services. With business intelligence (BI) emerging as one of the fastest growing fields in IT, the candidate develops a conceptual model in which BI is placed into context with other relevant subjects such as strategy development, enterprise architecture and modelling and performance measurement. The emphasis is on the development of processes and templates that support a closed loop control system with the following process steps: - A business strategy is defined. - The implication of the strategy on business processes, supporting IT resources and organizational structure is formally documented according to enterprise architecture principles. - This documented blueprint of the organization helps to implement the selected business strategy. - A performance measurement system is developed and supported by a well-designed data warehouse. - On a regular basis the measurements that were defined to support the implementation of the strategy, together with information from the external environment are interpreted and this analysis leads to either a new strategy, or refinement of the implementation of the existing strategy. Both options may lead to changes in the enterprise architecture, the execution of business processes and/or the performance measurement system. Some of the individual components of the model are supported by existing theories, for example the Zachman Framework for enterprise architecture and the Balanced Scorecard from Kaplan and Norton. The contribution of the author was to position them in the bigger picture to indicate how they can add value with regard to the establishment of business intelligence in organizations. Instead of packaging existing ideas slightly differently under a new name, the author intentionally searched for existing theories to fulfil certain requirements in the Bigger Picture BI Context Model. Apart from a set of templates that were adapted from various other sources and packaged into practical formats that can be used during facilitation sessions, the author has also developed and described the Fourier Model and the Pots of Money Model. The Fourier Model is a powerful conceptual model that helps a business to package solutions for market related requirements through selections of previously defined building blocks (technical components) that can be delivered through various business entities, depending on the requirements of the opportunity. The Pots of Money Model is a quantitative model embedded in a spreadsheet format to illustrate and communicate the effect of spending decisions in one area of the business on other areas. The candidate demonstrates the Bigger Picture BI Context Model in several case studies. The thesis is accompanied by a CD ROM, which contains over 700 references to relevant literature (most of them available in full text) and links to internet web sites, as well as examples of the software templates that support some of the steps in the context model. The following figure depicts the conceptual model in schematic format: (See figure in the abstract of 00front) / Thesis (PhD (Industrial Engineering))--University of Pretoria, 2006. / Industrial and Systems Engineering / unrestricted

Combining Balanced Score Card and Data Envelopment Analysis for Analyzing the Performance of Small Scale FisheriesRezaei, Mona January 2015 (has links)
The balanced scorecard (BSC) is an accepted methodology for putting strategy into action. The BSC provides a comprehensive performance measurement for an organization with respect to both financial and non-financial perspectives, including the triple bottom line of planet, people, and profit. Through various implementations to companies, organizations, and sectors, balanced scorecards have been used widely both for strategic purposes, as well as for more tactical focus for auditing current performance. BSC implementation is particularly adequate when integrated with the operational processes of the organization. The integration between the strategic plan and the financial and operational plans proceed via the business process model that covers the operational processes associated with the objectives of the organization in the strategy map. In this way, BSC is a tool for real-time monitoring of performance as well as providing the crucial linkage to the organization’s strategy that enables the proper implementation of the organization’s strategy. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) has been widely applied for measuring the efficiency of a specific decision-making unit (DMU) against a projected point on an efficiency frontier. DEA is therefore particularly suitable for measuring the organizational efficiency based on the BSC indicators, which are defined as Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). In the commercial fisheries sector, sustainable strategy of fisheries organizations can be gained by running the current operations more effectively, and by integrating processes enabling adaptation to change. The efficiency frontier of the DEA model can be used to calculate the efficiency of fisheries operations. The proposed research is undertaken as part of the Canadian Fisheries Research Network (CFRN) to investigate the application of BSC and DEA for defining commercial fisheries performance evaluation variables with respect to the objectives of environmental sustainability, economic viability, and social and cultural stability in compliance with, and in the absence of, performance monitoring alleged in the Fisheries and Oceans, Canada Integrated Fisheries Management Plans (IFMP). The combination of BSC-DEA methodologies is developed in this research as a required performance monitoring system suitable for IFMPs for analyzing the relative efficiency of commercial fisheries case studies across Canada towards incorporating best sustainable practices in the industry.

Development of ship maintenance performance measurement framework to assess the decision making process to optimise in ship maintenance planningAlhouli, Yousef Mohammed January 2011 (has links)
Effective maintenance planning is essential and important in any organisation that is responsible for procuring and managing complex assets. In the marine shipping industry maintenance planning is very significant due to its complexity and the obligations on shipping organisations to comply with certain regulations and requirements. Moreover, improper planning can reduce the ship's availability, which may in turn, be reflected in the revenue of the company. Another issue that requires attention in this field is the cost of maintenance, since improper or inadequate planning could result in breakdowns that could increase the cost of maintenance. This research aims to identify the key factors that affect ship maintenance planning and to provide a framework that can help the decision maker to identify and choose optimum decisions regarding ship maintenance. The research is divided into four stages in order to achieve its objectives and to address the research problem. The first stage is the review of the literature to identify the need for maintenance and to select the key factors that affect maintenance planning. The findings indicate that: maintenance scheduling, selection of maintenance strategy, ship construction, crew compensation, and shipyard selection are the most important factors. The second stage is to evaluate maintenance performance measurements for the marine shipping industry by conducting case study and interviews with professionals involved in the mercantile industry. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with six senior staff experts from three different organisations. The results show that: dry docking scheduling, maintenance costs and budgets, customer satisfaction, employees' satisfaction, classification requirements, and the ship's maintenance requirements are the main factors that have great influence on maintenance planning. The third stage is to develop new methodology to measure the maintenance performance in the marine shipping organisation which is the ship maintenance performance measurement (SMPM) framework. The developed method was validated to assist managers in making the right decisions in ship maintenance planning. The framework was developed based on ten thematic criteria that can be used as indicators for potential organisation growth, i.e., maintenance strategy; dry docking scheduling; budget and costs; the ship's equipment; customer satisfaction; employees; health, safety and environment; learning and growth; classification requirements; and the ship's operation and demands requirements. Interviews were conducted with key personnel from the Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC) to validate the framework. The fourth stage demonstrates that an optimised schedule for the dry docking of ships for routine maintenance has been constructed. This is accomplished on the basis of one measured criterion, dry docking scheduling, by using an integer programming model to maximise the ship's availability within the company fleet. The model is defined by three constraints: the maintenance window, maintenance completion, and the ship's limit. The model was validated using data from KOTC, and the results depict an optimum solution for maintenance scheduling, maximising the ship's availability to 100% and not less than 92%.

A FRAMEWORK TO ASSESS POST-CONFLICT ENVIRONMENT IMPACT ON CONSTRUCTION ORGANIZATION PERFORMANCEQais Amarkhil (6616994) 15 May 2019 (has links)

In the
field of the construction industry, the research work has been widely focused
on identifying key performance indicators and critical success factors without
assessing the impact of conflict environment factors. This study focusses on
the impact of post-conflict environment factors on local construction
organization performance. This research presents a performance prediction model
comprising the effect of post-conflict environment factors on construction
organization performance. The proposed framework of this study has four stages:
identify key performance indicators (KPIs), identify post-conflict environment
impacting factors, determine critical success factors (CSFs), and formulate
success strategy to improve performance. Analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and
multiple linear regression (MLR) techniques are
applied to analyze the data.

The
study finding indicates that there is a significant relationship between the
post-conflict condition impacting factors and local construction organization
performance, which is insufficiently studied
in previous research work. Thus, the
developed framework will benefit academic scholars and industry practitioners
to analyze and evaluate challenges and opportunities caused by different
external environment conditions in the post-conflict construction industry.
